Good service. Great staff. We tried all the rolls. And had the cocktails. The music was bit too loud & funky for Japanese food. Otherwise ingredients for all dishes were best quality. The prawn tempura was crunchy & fresh. Wagyu beef tender and squid fresh in tempura.

    Ponzu oysters and steamed oysters...yum!

Boy, I have been here so many times. : ) The executive chef Ura-san takes very good care of me every single time, so I don't usually look at or even check their menu, and do the omakase course instead. :p After I tasted fresh and really flavorful tuna sashimi here, I can tell the difference between fresh tuna and once-frozen-then-defrosted tuna now which unfortunately we have no other option when I am back in Los Angeles. There are a couple of dishes which I really like. One of them is steamed oysters with their original Chinese style sauce. I usually like Ponzu and they also serve oysters in Ponzu, but I do like the steamed ones here better because of the flavor and the originality. I also love their wagyu beef...I know some may say "Wagyu beef at a sushi restaurant???" But once you have it, you will not regret - it is amazing! There are a couple of other items, but those are not on the menu and I know it takes time for them to prepare, so I will not disclose here. I am sure Ura-san will serve you once you become a regular customer. ;) Other things I like about the place is their clientele. Due to the coziness especially when you sit at the sushi bar, your 'seat mates' are very close, but most of the people that I encountered are very nice, well-behaved (!), and polite. It's easy to carry nice conversation with someone next to you. I have seen a couple of celebrities here, but other customers just let them enjoy their own private time instead of asking for autographs, photos. or anything - which is great. Their waiter service can be sketchy from time to time, but the food and the ambiance will make up for it.

Date night last night. Maybe not the most romantic venue, at 8pm Hemesphere was pumping and extremely loud. But damn, the food here is wonderful so it's worth the pain. We sat at the restaurat bar, which is good for discreet viewing of the discerning crowd, but actually quiet uncomfortable. Ate the usuals - Kingfish sashimi, bug on a lettuce leaf, agedashi tofu and some of the finest wagyu we've ever had. Slow service, everyone says that, but a very nice night indeed

Sushi House is one of few sushi joints that I've come across that actually has a decent amount of filling as opposed to most places that deceive us poor trusting consumers by jam packing the top only to be disappointed after the first bite with the realisation that the rest is rice. The rolls are huge and I love that the avocado is ripe and creamy, balances so well with whatever filling you choose. I had salmon & chicken teriyaki, the latter was a little unhealthy tasting but the salmon was fresh and there was lots of it, a definite 4 stars for this very reason. I've yet to try anything else but the Sashimi Salad looks pretty amazing with what looks like it's topped with some green tea noodles and crab bits - $9 I was completely filled with 2 massive rolls. A definite go-to place of you're looking for a quick, fulfilling and thrifty lunch.

Ended up here after a recommendation at the office on a business trip. The place was fully booked but somehow the lady serving us managed to find a place for us. Quality of the sushi is amazing - and the place does have a special flair. Tip: Cheese cake desert is just amazing!

Their drinks rotate, but if you find the "Fine & Dandy II" on their menu I highly suggest getting it!

I can't say it's *the best* sushi in town, simply because there are so many places I have yet to try! But It's really up there. Like, super-high up there. The Salmon Tartare was to die for! Anyway, as much as I enjoyed the sushi, the rockstar of the evening was the Fine & Dandy II drink! Best drink I had on my visit to Sydney, hand's down. I'm a happy fan and I cannot wait to return.

When you walk into Sushi-E you kind of the get the feeling that this would be the place that Donald Draper would grab his sushi rolls. This place is all class and it's takes Japanese food to a new level. Let me preface the rest of this review by telling you it is really expensive - but I believe the gorgeous decor, mood lighting, lounging chairs, excellent waitstaff and brilliant food warrants this as a special place. I have a few favourites to recommend - Salmon Tartare - raw salmon combined with onion, lemon and mayo then finished with generous serves of of salmon roe and cucumber, the salmon is then dressed with a wasabi ponzu dressing ($25) Tuna Ceviche - tuna slices marinated with a lemon and lime dressing, finished with baby coriander, jalapeno chilli and teardrop tomatoes ($31.00) Miso Cod - pieces of sweet white miso marinated southern ocean cod (patagonian toothfish) grilled until golden brown and garnished with baby ginger root ($34) It's seriously delicious food! Only tip the $7 Miso is unnecessarily expensive - I'd miss that if I was you. You'll find Sushi-E near the top of the Establishment Hotel - and its a great place to visit for a special occasion.

    Fabulous! One of the best!

High quality sushi. We had some communication confusion when we paid for our meal. The maneger solved the problem by giving us a big discount. The story in we wanted to order the tasting plate for 90 aud per person but that's for 4 people group. We asked the waitress is there a way to get it. The waitress said she could arrange something similar. So I still thought its for 90aud per person. But in the end the bill was almost 340. After we told the story, she decided to charge us as 90 per person. I wasn't expecting that but their attitude is very humble. I would like to give them a good recommendation. The food and services are very good. Thanks! I think Australians don't use yelp that much. But hope ppl can read it.

Really good pieces of fish here!

This is good for a night out! The sushi pieces were fresh & delicious and the rolls were pretty big. Tried restarting rolls if both cuttlefish and balmain bug for the first time. Didn't love cuttlefish, but the lobster-type balmain was yummy. It is a real "pretty people" place, connected to 2 other restaurants and I think the idea is to get drinks in their big lounge first. Since we didn't plan on that, it was an awkward table wait. Nice staff as well.

There was 6-7 people cooking on Friday night, one people at each station. Thus the food come out very quickly! We learn the hard lesson by making a mistake of ordering everting at once. Sure enough all the 8 dishes were delivered within 20 minutes.... make sure to place your order one to two dishes at a time. Food was good. Yakitori juicy, Hotate was fresh, seaweed salad, grilled mackerel, all dishes we ordered were pretty good. Old fashioned fries are a good deal (for Aussie price). Plenty of sake choices. You can choose from 100ml or 300ml so you can taste a little first, to see which one you like. I'll come back here again.

I did have a higher expectation with the food after reading all these 4/5 star reviews but nothing we ordered was really memorable. Maybe I did not order the right things? Good as a place to meet up with friends and have a drink but if you are looking for higher quality of Japanese fare, you might need to go somewhere. Just be careful the portion is tapas style and your bills can quickly added up if you want to have a full meal here.

(Please read October 2018 update, can't be arsed doing yet another review of Makoto, but the news…read moreis good!) This hurts. For 15 years I've been enjoying that feeling of having a special place thats pretty much perfect. Where the guys knew me and the food was way above the rest. Makoto was the best Sushi Train I'd ever been to and it was fully 1 minutes walk down the road. So I went a lot, I mean at least 800 times. The value was there. My favourites were the tempura king prawn hand roll, the king prawn and omelette hand roll and the most basic of all, the salmon sushi. Thing was, all the offerings were fresh generous and delicious. Last year a new owner came in. You don't need to read anymore if you, like me, know what that always means. The first to go was James who had been there from the start. Most of the staff went because they put in the ubiquitous computer screen ordering system. Then they removed all the old prawn dishes. All of them. Now you are lucky if you get a pre prepared frozen crumbed prawn covered in a mayo mess. Then they reduced the sizes of every dish on the train so the salmon was much smaller. All my favourites disappeared or were scrimped. Then they put all the prices up. The next thing to go was the queue, then the regulars stopped going. Now there's barely anyone there at 12 noon when there used to be a wait for ten to fifteen minutes. I'll still go now and then because its still fresh and its still close. The really sad thing is that I see people there who never saw what it used to be - they probably think that this is a pretty good place, they don't know what it was like. Sigh. Update October 2018 The tempura king prawns hand rolls are back!!!! The other day they had the old cooked prawn and mayonnaise gunkan on the train, its not back full time but at least it made an appearance! The salmon sashimi is no longer scrimped upon. Its back to its old size. Back to 5 stars for the prawn hand rolls alone. Thank you God, I really missed those things. And they are still on the blue plates, which have been bumped from $3.60 to $3.80 - so what - 20c!! Two words - yaa. hoo.

This a big call but I think this is the best sushi train in Sydney!! Genrally I don't like sushi…read moretrains but this is certainly an exception. The seafood is always fresh and of a high grade. However this does come at a price and you will certainly be paying for it. They have great Salmon sashimi but my favourites come off the menu, not the train and they are the omelette and king prawn hand roll and fisherman's soup. The Agedashi tofu ain't bad either ! I only wish less people knew how good this place is as sometimes the queue is pretty long.
