Yikes. I placed an order online on a quiet Sunday night. Quoted 30 minute wait. It was 109 minutes wait time. Way too much time to sit and observe. Disgusting in here. The guys behind the counter are barking, singing in Spanish and making all sorts of weird noises. One of is them constantly coughing and clearing his throat. Had I not already paid I would have walked out. There are now 7 of us in the lobby waiting. Got in my car, hungry, and took a bite of an egg roll. Omfg I can't! This is literally COLD AND SOGGY. Got home and the takoyaki is saturated in sauce and cold. Never, ever again! This place is for sale and you should definitely reconsider coming here. Let's help them close. I'm glad to have a sushi restaurant in town. Sometimes the sushi craving hits hard and grocery store sushi usually doesn't fill that crave! To me, sushi cafe is in between grocery store sushi and a good sushi restaurant. I've really only had their sushi and wontons. They have a lot of variety on their menu, but haven't tried it. This is a great weeknight carry-out spot. There are a few tables where one could eat, but I've only ever seen people picking up. My kid likes the avocado rolls but found the miso soup a tad watery this last time. I get the udon, which has got some nice spice to it, not hot spice, just really flavorful. They've upped their game since I last tried them. New and flavorful options available. The chicken wings were deliciously airy and crispy. The seasoning is heavy and salty but you can easily shake some off if you don't want it. Not sure if the main draw for people is the sushi or the boba but both have some great options to try. The best part about this place is their food packaging. You can tell that they think about the consumer in how they smartly pack their items. Fried items have a stream vent to allow items to stay warm but still crispy. I've yet to retry the hibachi grill items but may give it a try again some day. Pretty good sushi place. I've ordered here a few times and they made good food. You can usually get six rolls and a side of rice for about $10. My only complaint is the wasabi that comes with an order of sushi. It is placed inside of the container with the sushi and makes the sushi taste like wasabi. We paid $75 (after taxes and tip) for 4 rolls of sushi and kalamari. Although the rolls were decent, I can't in good faith recommend this place for sushi. It's a poor value for what you get. Tonight's Anniversary Dinner was WONDERFUL!! We ordered and our daughter who lives out of state had Doordash deliver our first meal from Sushi Cafe!!! What a GIFT!! What a GREAT MEAL!!! We thought we'd be adventurous for our social distance anniversary. Our taste buds were ready for something different. Sushi Cafe did not disappoint. The the shrimp and vegetable tempura was a wonderful crunchy tasty start. My favorites were the shrimp and sweet potato. My husband enjoyed the onion, mushroom and broccoli tempura. The cream cheese wontons were flavorful and also crunchy. The egg rolls looked yummy...no room so they will be warmed up for lunch tomorrow. Now for the entrees the Sesame chicken was a little sweet to me I prefer spicy. My husband enjoyed so we're sticking with a 5 star. The fried rice was fresh. The singa noodle with shrimp was well seasoned and tasty. Can you imagine we did not have sushi from the Sushi Cafe...this time. I will update you when that happens. Last minute good food options in Cottage Grove are limited. I always find myself venturing to Woodbury for when I need a quick dinner option. We stopped inside Sushi Cafe to order takeout. Like many other restaurants, dining inside is no longer an option. Sushi Cafe's menu includes a variety of items such as; fried rice, udon noodles, sushi, boba tea, chicken wings, and edamame. I had the vegetable udon noodles which were not enjoyable at all. I took 1 bite and could not finish it. I also had the sweet potato roll which was distasteful as well. It tasted like mashed sweet potato and rice with no flavor. Now my go-to roll is a sweet potato roll and I've never been dissatisfied at any other place. The waiting area didn't appear very clean. Since COVID-19 came into our lives, more locations closed earlier than before. This place saved us when we were looking for an Asian place to eat at 8 o'clock at night. Located on a strip, tucked away from the busy streets; I almost missed it if it weren't navigator. This corner restaurant is small and have limited seatings along the windows. The cash register and kitchen are behind the counter. When we came in one hour prior to closing, part of the seating area was blocked off. My party of four sat at a table that was in front of the boba drink menu. I've ordered: hibachi for 2, vegetable udon, chicken wings, tuna poke bowl, salmon roll, California roll, mango ice tea, chai ice tea, mango milk tea, and shrimp and beef hibachi. The owner graciously gave us an order of chicken wings on the house. Hibachi for 2 included fried rice, salad, miso soup, beef, chicken, shrimp, and veggies (broccoli, zucchini, and onions). The meat were cube shaped and kept separate from the veggies. There was a special sauce that came separately; however, I prefer spicy than sweet with my meat. The veggies were bland without the sauce. I liked the salad. The salad sauce was creamy and had a hint of vinaigrette. All of the dishes came in disposable containers, even though we stayed there to eat. The salad container may be tricky for kids to open since I had to open for mine. The service was quick and the server was friendly. There is happy hour during certain time for online ordering. We've stayed there until closing time. I was so excited to try this place as someone had long ago recommended it, and I kept it in my back pocket flagged on Yelp to try- I finally had an opportunity, and I was so sadly disappointed. Firstly, on a service front, there were four individuals there working, no other customers.. and I felt like a massive inconvenience for being there. They were on their phones and disengaged. When it came time to make sushi, they touched their phones- then didn't wash their hands before putting their hands all over my sushi- yuck! Compared to Aloha Poke in Woodbury, Sushi cafe doesn't really let you customize your own poke, although it already has the major ingredients found in a poke bowl, and you can remove stuff if you like. The poke bowl tasted good, and a big plus is their salmon to rice ratio!! Compared to Aloha poke, Sushi cafe give you more fish! Ofc you'll have to eat ginger and soy sauce from home if you have any since they don't offer it here. The wait did take a while (about 20 minutes) but it wasn't too bad since they had a waiting area in the front. Cottage Grove is lucky to have this restaurant! Their sushi is great and I love the Godzilla role. Their cream cheese wontons are super good too - a lot of filling . Their service is quick for takeout and comes home piping hot. My only suggestion is to get some more flavor into the Pad Thai and last time I got it, it was super greasy/oily. However, I would never hesitate to order from this place frequently! Edit: I was pumped they added some new entrees (like sesame chicken) but they aren't served with rice so you have to order a side of rice. It's very uncommon not to include rice with a $12 order of sesame chicken, right? Had planned on ordering an additional app with dinner tonight but had to spend extra for rice... or make it at home which defeats the purpose of takeout! For 10 minutes drive from Woodbury, Sushi Cafe is our new found gem in the area. Our waiter/cashier greeted us with her big smile at the door and explained how to order (at the counter) and she served the foods to our table. My daughter search them up on Instagram with many recommendations from her friends that made us here today. We ordered couple bubble teas and are happy with the drinks. The foods is fast - and tasty. I could push some of my order to 4 star but I go back to what I wanted here which was good sushi so that is why I am going with a 3. The California roll was ok but we got a tuna roll and no idea what they did to it. It was so weird like a crumble of a blend and I could taste or see no tuna. Also I have never seen such small sushi. They were all tiny. On to the hibachi - I liked but I thought it was way over priced for one take out stir fry dish. Hubby like his Gyoza dumplings. This is the second time my son and I have been here. I have liked the gyoza and bubble teas. The sushi was problematic. The spicy girl roll had a weird texture and wasn't spicy almost flavorless. The spider roll was good except they had lettuce in the roll which made it difficult to chew. When we took out the lettuce the roll was great. The last roll a fancy shrimp roll was ok but by that time we were not feeling it. Overall the bubble teas started out warm which was weird but once we stirred them they were good. The gyoza was good. The sushi took almost 20 minutes to come out which was disappointing. To top it off it was quite expensive. If I am going to pay 50$ for 3 rolls, gyoza, and 2 bubble teas I want better service and much better seafood. We are not planning on going back. read more
