Budget friendly sushi restaurant. For the money you pay, you get plenty of food. Would it be same quality as $200 omakase course meal? Definately not. Was salmon on my sushi paper thin? Yes. Was it relatively fresh though? Yes. It was interesting to find out depending on where you order from, even though it is the same set menu, price, quantity and item choice vary. I was initially planning to take advantage of 1+1 Uber Eats deal, then I realized that you actually get a better deal from Doordash. Doordash deal was even better than ordeing from Monkey Sushi website. Monkey Special set C ($16.95). Picked 5 pcs of salmon sushi, 5 pcs of tuna sushi, 1 gold dragon maki(6). Matsu Box($20.95). 1 green dragon maki(6), 3 salmon sashimi, 5 pcs of sushi( salmon, tuna, tilapia( but they call it red snapper) , crab & shrimp), 2 shrimp & 4 veggie tempura, 1 fried dumpling, 1 spring roll, 1 pork katsu & rice. They also provided 2 miso soup( almost tasted like some kind of broth) I got another $5 off and ended up paying $37.18 for pick up service( not delivery). Was shocked by amount of food when I picked up. It literally made 4 meals. Would I order it again if I crave for sushi but I don't want to break my bank? Yes, I will. read more

First off, on SkipTheDishes, where we ordered tonight, the restaurant is called Monkey Sushi. I was a bit confused (which should have thrown us off) why I couldn't find it on Yelp. Sadly, we didn't heed to our confusion and ordered anyway. Ugh, deals and specials. Now mind you, my husband and I don't have amazing palates but we do know good/bad food. Also, their deal was 58pcs. We counted THREE TIMES... there were only 52. Ugh! This...much to our dismay, was terrible. It was SO BAD we couldn't even finish the food. The rice on the sushi was waterlogged. It was a paste - you can just imagine the disgust as we tried to trudge forward. We hate wasting food but we just couldn't. We ended up picking out the insides and the fish on top. You'll see the "results" in the photos. How do they even send/serve that?? Also terrible was the soft shell crab. I mean I haven't ordered it in a while (so it was a splurge) but it was greasy and way too...heavy. This was a birthday dinner (mine) and I mean, I really like a good story so I guess I got that. Ordered delivery via ubereats buy one get one free offer and it was decent for what we got, keeping in mind it was pretty much half price, costing us $40 instead of $80. Order was timely and arrived within the given time window. The monkie special set includes 1 hand roll, and your choice of a few pieces of nigiri or rolls. We got the sea dragon roll which was pretty good and had quite a bit of eel and avocado. The nigiri sushi was pretty good as well. Overall everything was pretty fresh upon delivery. Our favourite was the hot fusion roll. It's sort of a torched salmon roll and was very flavourful. So for $40, this was definitely worth it. If they didn't have the BOGO offer? Debatable. read more

This place has an identity crisis. The sign outside says Sushi Delight. In any case, this place is AMAZING. incredibly fresh, delish, and well priced. This seems similar to monkey sushi that's on bloor in korea town. This place is absolutely underrated. I got the lunch special B take out and damn this hits the spot. For ten dollars it came with salmon teriyaki, edamame beans, soup, sushi rolls, salad, veg tempura, spring roll, rice and fruit. Absolutely recommend to give this a try!! Lunch deals go up to 4pm too and I always end up going for a late lunch. Theres a Kibo at Bloor and broadview that does walk-in specials for five or ten $ that I'm a regular at, and this is a full complete meal from that. Sushi Bistro is a new Japanese restaurant in The Danforth. They were advertising a 15% off grand opening promo, so my friends and I decided to hit it up. The promo ends on November 30th, 2018 in case you read this review in time. I was not expecting much and I am usually wary of new Japanese restaurants, as the quality can really fluctuate depending on the restaurant you visit. However, I had an excellent experience at Sushi Bistro! Their prices are very affordable and their portion sizes are massive. It's seriously a crazy price to portion ratio! For example, I got the Chicken Big Bowl. To my utter surprise, it was an extra large bowl with double - or even triple - the amount of chicken one usually gets at other restaurants. The chicken tasted like it was made to order and was grilled well. For 8 bucks plus tax and tip, it was a steal! The other two in my party shared a Dinner For Two option ($40 before tax and tip). It was tough for them to finish all the food, and they are very large eaters mind you. Therefore, the food here really is plentiful, so bring your appetite! They also found the quality to be extremely high for the portion you get and the price you pay. Don't expect a fancy, gourmet meal, but you'll definitely get a meal that is above average. The only suggestion I would give to the staff would be to have a more diverse set of sauces. I found that the same sauce was used for almost all of the meats, so sometimes the dishes started tasting the same. Other than that, we are quite happy to have found another diamond in the rough to eat at when we're in The Danforth! read more

I've ordered from Monkey Sushi multiple times off of Uber Eats due to their constant buy one get one free combo deals. You get a lot of sushi for the price that you pay, so the rating is definitely boosted due to the value not the quality. Especially if you have the Uber Eats Pass, this place will really be the best bang for your buck. I have never dined in, so I cannot comment on their atmosphere inside. The quality of their sushi is average, more on the side of all you can eat sushi. I have never had a bad experience with them but sometimes, their delivery times can be a bit longer than I would like. The combo in my photo is their Monkey Special Set for $22.95 where you pick 3 rolls/sushi/sashimi/hand rolls of your choice. This combo comes with miso soup as well. It is usually buy one get one free, so you can get two sets of it for that price. Just ordered some food from skip the dishes: spicy salmon roll (v gross), dynamite roll (it was $5 so why the hell not) and finally, big bowl of kalbi ($9). I can't knock them for pricing but the only highlight of the meal was the kalbi bowl. Well cooked, tasty, a lot of flavour. I wasn't into the tomato slices so I tossed them out but it comes on a bed of rice, broccoli and some corn nibblets. The rolls I received were less than average, and I'm comparing it to that premade stuff you find at grocery stores. Not certain why the spicy salmon roll was so salty, and there were itty bitty bits of salmon. The pink mayo was god awful and hid the lack of salmon. The dynamite roll was nothing special, it was a cold, bland tempura rolled up. Thank goodness I had extra wasabi and ginger to make the rolls edible. 2.5 stars stars (1 for value, 1 for decent portions, 0.5 for the kalbi bowl) at max, rounding to 3. Would I try this place again? I doubt it. However, if you're going for cooked items no problem (I didn't try the chicken bowl bc I saw other reviews that the chicken was undercooked). This is your everyday Japanese restaurant. Big Bang for the buck and the food is delicious. We frequented this place before COVID and have ordered takeouts several times with the current situation. Sashimi and sushi are still great with the takeouts. Hot dishes are less consistent comparing to dining in, but it is understandable all things considered. read more

After an hour and a half, after asking numerous times about our order, we finally received it. My husband has an allergy to shrimp which they were not very concerned about. Shrimp was on his plate (my order which we clearly told them to separate). DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES. Do not go here unless you want to wait an hour and a half to eat. I placed an order this evening at approximately 7:15 pm they sent an email confirmation that the food will arrive at 8:35 pm. At 9:00 pm I started calling the restaurant. I called them over 30 times and no answer. I totally understand that many businesses maybe busy but you can't not answer the phone for over 30 mins. Absolutely horrible and no call back. I also emailed them twice and no response back. I walked into the restaurant as the 3 staff member were engaged in an argument and I had to ask if I could and where I could sit without any greeting or any request of help from any of them. The waiter was attentive to take the order and deliver the food but was nonexistent for any additional issues: my son needing a fork, clearing plates promptly, wanting an another drink, needing the bill. Some of the fish on the sushi I ordered had a dry surface texture which tells me it's not well cared for or fresh. The maki roll was loose and and poorly assembled. In the long wait for the bill; which the server should have known was needed because he had served us a small scoop of ice cream to finish; the phone rang off the hook as the sushi chef ignored it for 3 back-to-back calls before finally picking it up. We were loyal customers of this place for over a decade when it was "Sushi Delight" though the quality of food started to suffer. When they rebranded we hoped it would go well but tonight I tried for over an hour to order delivery online on both desktop and mobile. My husband went there in person and got attitude from the staff/manager. We will never give them our business again. We've spent thousands of dollars over the years with this location. I used to love sushi delight (it's former name) it was cheap, delicious and portions were generous. I went back and I've never felt more disappointed from the quality of sushi from this place. I ordered salmon sashimi which was very unfresh, it was chewy and tough to eat which it shouldn't be. I also ordered a green salad and avocado rolls but the amount of avocado in the rolls was so little compared to before, and the seaweed was so tough to chew. The waiter also forgot my green salad and I waited 20 mins before asking where it was. When I asked if I could get the sashimi taken off my bill it seemed like a huge ordeal for him to remove it. You always have to wait like more than half an hour for pick up in a cold weather even if you order it ahead of time. it get worst for delivery. It never on time and the good wasnt that great at all. So fresh, so delicious! Great bang for your buck! We ordered delivery last night and I was so impressed! We ordered the Big Chicken Bowl(chicken was the perfect amount of crispy and juicy, the teriyaki sauce was awesome), the spicy makimon set (came with soup and salad, I'm not a huge California roll fan as I find them a bit boring but it had the best California roll I've had in Toronto), and the shrimp tempura (this was the only let down, but it was only a let down because of getting it delivered. It became soggy, so I imagine having it dine-in would be perfectly crispy because it did taste great). We've definitely found our new favourite spot. Can't wait to try more! read more
