This place is incredible. From my experience, the best sushi places are always the ones oddly located in shopping centers. They rely on the quality of their food instead of ambiance and trendiness. This place is no exception. It is by far the best sushi lunch I've had in Colorado. They hit every one of my criteria for good sushi and exceed expectation with nice touches not expected. These are: The perfect amount of rice in each roll. The rice is also always perfectly cooked and has great flavor and texture. Sesame seeds are also added in which I love! A spicy mayo that is more than just Sriracha and mayo. Theirs is fantastic. Fish that is served at room temperature and tastes fresh.The tuna really melts in your mouth and the mackerel is fantastic! Fresh, ripe and flavorful avocado. This is critical, and so far the avocado here is always delicious! A good ginger dressing for the salad. Theirs is extremely good, and the radishes and cucumbers add to the salad very nicely! A nice bonus I don't see often is the addition of masago to their california roll. It's a small touch, but very nice! And to top it off, the prices are great! Particularly the lunch specials. I've started eating here once a week. I'm addicted. read more

My wife and I had been going to this place nearly a year. Had a couple of minor hiccups here and there, but overall they were above average. Last Thursday, we went in there for lunch. We were literally the only couple there. The service was surprisingly slow at every step. I understand the sushi takes time to be made. However, I waited at least five minutes for the check to be brought to us and after another five minutes of waiting, I had to go find her and remind her we were still there. Regardless, I overlooked this as they're usually pretty good. We went in for Valentines. It was extremely crowded which we expected so we were prepared to wait. It took about 30 mins for the table and another 40 until the food was brought. That all would have been alright, except they only brought us two of our four rolls. I figured the other two were right behind. I was wrong. We watched them bring out at least four plates of sushi to other customers. When asking what happened, she just said sorry it's valentine's day. They had four chefs working and in 40 minutes time they were only able to bring us half of our order. I've been eating at various sushi restaurants all around the US for nearly 20 years. This has never happened to me anywhere before. Ever. Will not be going back. read more

We love our neighborhood sushi place. We have only come here for the sushi so I can't comment on the dinners but the sushi is great. We like the low key atmosphere and the fresh fish. We've been to sushi all over Denver and some are comparable but not better. They have a nice creative set of specialty rolls. Today in particular the fish was just superb. We love getting the Salmon Lover and usually get the Black Dragon. After that, if it's just the two of us, we order one other roll depending on our mood. Today we added in the Playboy Roll and everything just melted in the mouth! We also often get miso soup and seaweed salad which are also very good. I like that the miso is not too salty. My husband and I chose Sushi Aji based on all the fantastic reviews. But we were disappointed in the meal. The miso soup had a funky plastic after taste like the melamine bowl it was served in. The salmon and tuna sushi was very soft not firm and tender. It tasted like the fish had been previously frozen. Not what I expected. The yellowtail sushi was tough and hard to bite into. I love this sushi place! With COVID going on, they have adapted well with a superior pick-up experience. You can do everything by phone except pay, but the payment setup is outside, so it's about as safe as you can get. The staff are always fully masked (covering nose and mouth), and they bring the order right to your car when it's ready. So many other reviewers have already pointed out how good the food is, so there's not much to add. I would recommend trying other things on the menu besides just the sushi. The tempura boxes are also really tasty, and they have a selection of 3 Sakis to choose from to complement your meal! read more

We paid them another visit last night, as a combo Mothers' day/Anniversary dinner. We ate, we drank, and we really enjoyed ourselves! The service was friendly and accommodating, and the servers all doted on our cute toddler. The sushi tasted fresher than it did during our first visit. My husband really enjoyed his sashimi, and I loved my rolls, particularly the Dynamite roll. I liked it so much, I ordered another one after I finished the first! They brought us a complementary serving of ice cream at the end of our meal, which our kiddo loved (she ate all of the ginger and most of the mango). That was an unexpected and nice touch. Very small joint that's for sure. The rolls we ordered were not over the top but we also only ordered one of the house rolls that I can't remember. The regular rolls were rolled tightly though and did not fall apart. The yellow tail and tuna tasted fresh (as far as Colorado sea food goes) lol. My wife and I LOVE sushi! We moved to Colorado from San Francisco. We've traveled all over and have a pretty good idea of quality. There are some really fancy and expensive places that go over the top... but Sushi Aji is a great local spot that consistently delivers the goods when you have the craving. I would rate them a solid 9/10. Minus 1 point for lacking bustling urban/hipster vibe or ocean/fantastic view. But seriously, they make great sushi and have decent inexpensive house sake. My 4 year and 6 year olds ate sushi tonight. We're both glad they like good food, but a little concerned that we may have started setting the bar a too high. read more

We go to this place regularly for their lunch specials. Since we never encounter a rush, we've never had issues with service. They do have the most value-for-money lunch specials if you order the bento combinations. Try it once and you'll see what I mean! My favorite is the chicken teriyaki. They serve not one but TWO large pieces of chicken breast, on top of a bed of vegetables (including asparagus!), fried dumplings, California roll, rice, soup and salad. All that for what, $12? The Bento Box lunch was absolutely clutch with well-prepared Salmon Teriyaki, California Rolls, vegetables, and rice. At around $10, it was a heaping lot of food that honestly could have been enjoyed by two people. We tried a few other rolls and while they weren't inventive or unique in any way, they were all quite tasty. The service was moderate to poor at times, though one or two waitresses were attempting to serve a full place on a weekend lunch service. While friendly, our waitress wasn't particularly competent and the serving arrived much slower than expected. Ultimately, the food at Sushi Aji was unexpectedly good, and as a result I would not hesitate to return. read more

Excellent. I hope they're doing alright because it was super-easy to get seated on Mother's Day. They gave us two pieces of cheesecake at the end to share with our two kids and said "Happy Mother's Day" which was a perfect freebie to throw in (I wouldn't go in expecting this, but I tend to rack up $40-50 in sushi just for myself, and in previous visits they would bring over a nice small serving of Mochi ice cream). I like bluefin / yellowfin tuna and yellowtail above all else and it's hard to screw it up except by getting you sick (never happened to me anywhere) or having crazy small portions. Their rice (the actual "sushi" in "sushi") tastes a little more "thoughtful" with its use of vinegar and sugar than some of the chains like Mt. Fuji. When we bring our kids, they always bring the kid's food out super-fast so that they don't whine while you go through miso soup, appetizers (awesome mussels!), etc. Our kids rarely eat an entire kid's meal by themselves at many establishments -- this place is one of the few to actually offer to split the meal up when you only ask for one kid's meal, and then you end up getting nice big portions anyway that probably are more than the single meal would've been, and they both manage to plow through it all :) I can't remember the name of the rolls that I've tried beyond spicy tuna or yellowtail rolls, but I go for a specialty roll each time (not the same one, they have many) that have a mix of raw fish on the outside and roasted (like eel) or fried (scallop, soft crab, etc) elements, ideally with something spicy like Sriracha or toasty like Sesame-drizzly-goodness cutting any funky taste caused by Japanese Mayo, which I typically don't like. But they also happen to use judiciously placed, fresh-tasting Japanese Mayo (in-house?) and never gives me that "rotten egg" undertone. read more

I love these guys! It's a small hole in the wall shop, you don't expect much. The prices are normal sushi prices, but we were impressed. They're always busy, and during COVID you can tell the community really wanted to make sure these guys were around, I think they are busier now than ever.
