Twelve years ago Ulrik matched us with Oahu, the most wonderful dog we have ever had. A lightly brindled black Lab with the sweetest disposition. We had to put him down last year, but he's inspired us to raise another from Susana's. It's worth your consideration. read more

Our lab is now 4 years old and I cannot even begin to list the number of issues we have dealt with. First Girardia, then the allergies so bad we have to buy our dog special type of food which is expensive. Now we are dealing with some type of auto immune issue. We had to get so many tests done and put our dog under so much at such a young life. Special medication and surgeries, you name it. After reading all the reviews I see I'm not alone. We love our dog and thank goodness for pet insurance so we can manage all these unforeseen costs. Our own vet has even told us she has never treated a dog with so many ailments. It's maddening that this business is still up and running. Just makes me sick to see such animal cruelty. Please do your research as this can definitely become a burden financially and especially emotionally. read more

This review is 13 years in the making, but re-visiting these other reviews just makes me mad that they are still in business. We bought a yellow lab in 2010, supposed to be "blocky head, black nose forever and great temperment." Of course as a puppy he was adorable, but he grew to not have a blocky head, his nose was pink within a couple years, and more importantly he was just aloof. He had two neurons, one to breathe and one to grab food off the counter. Nothing was endearing about him. Now for the worst part. At just age 7 he was diagnosed with a terrible muscle condition, and enzymes indicating muscle destruction went through the roof. Despite steroids and expensive chemo, he could barely walk and we put him down pretty quickly. The best breeders I have learned still actively show and improve the breed with outside dogs. It is my belief these guys won a bunch of minor titles years ago and have inbred their dogs to the extent of bad illnesses thoughout their lines. Puppy mill. Their on-site setup screamed this to me when I visited but I had committed already. There are SO many other, better breeders, it's not like this is an uncommon breed. Go elsewhere. read more

Teresa is amazing and extremely knowledgeable about all things labs. We just took our new puppy home and she's the sweetest and healthiest pup. Teresa also crate trained her and did obedience training which was extremely useful for us. She's full of knowledge and her love of animals is evident. I highly recommend using her if you're looking for a lab! read more

I have nothing but praises for Teresa as she was just so efficient and thorough when we were looking for our now pride and joy, Cali. We were amazed at how Cali was already crate trained, could sit, lie down, and even walk on a leash which is amazing for a puppy. I wouldn't hesitate for one bit if you're on the fence of what breeder to go to for labs. Cali has been a dream for us, and it's all thanks to Teresa and her team. read more

I recently got a Labrador puppy from out of state. He's 3 months old and I've never trained a puppy before. I was frustrated trying to get him to listen to me and take commands consistently. During my initial search for a puppy I came across Theresa. Her pups were out of my budget but she told me to keep in touch and she'd help me out if I ever got a Labrador puppy. I took him to her for training about a week after I got him. She got him to sit, stay, wait, play red light, as well as starter to learn how to hi five. And he was much more calm than when I took him there. She communicated with me every step of the way and taught me what to do to continue his training at home. Just a few days later he was hi fiving like a pro! I can't thank her enough for the help and it also helps she's reasonably priced! 10/10 would recommend her for any Labrador owners! read more

Over twelve years apart our family has acquired our second puppy from Teresa's Labrador operation. We felt comfortable dealing with a breeder with decades of experience with the breed and puppy rearing. Teresa is the main contact throughout the puppy selection and purchase. Like most breeders she is careful to match the dog to the owners. In our case we had very specific preferences. While it is never a guarantee when dealing with litter turnout we got a puppy that closely matched our requests. Since Teresa is concerned about the owners she sells to it is best to come prepared. As a tip I recommend you sell yourself as a responsible and careful owner besides just asking questions about her and her dogs. With other breeders there is often deposits and commitments far in advance of litter arrivals. This leads to uncertain status and place in line. In our case Teresa told us when to call if we were earnest buyers. She honored our requests with honesty and frankness. I believe she only takes deposits once puppies are born. This makes for a clear understanding of selection status from the onset. In picking up our puppy we had a change in schedule as we live out of state now. Teresa was quick to point out the challenges of an early pick up (four days) but did accommodate us. (Giving final meds and early final shots) It is best to know with this breeder that she offers crate training for puppies their last two weeks before going home. You may want to opt for this as her staff works to deliver a puppy that has two weeks of professional potty training. This two week service is an optional cost in addition to the price of the dog. ($400). We received numerous pictures of the new litter and possible candidates for us from Teresa prior to and after the puppy selection day. Very thoughtful. There are cheaper puppies out there but the professionalism and experience of this operation make this owner willing to pay extra to get a dog from a breeder operation that cares as much as they do. Our new puppy has just been to our local vet and has been given a clean bill of health. If you are looking for a lab puppy Teresa and her staff should be on your shopping list. read more

This is SoCal labradors (socallabradors.com) - same place. It's hard not giving full stars because my dog is the most beautiful and wonderful boy lab ever. However, I had to speak up about the inbreeding - it was not an isolated incident or something that happened "a long time ago". Come on. Beautiful MAGIC and handsome blocky headed CHOPPER are both inbred. I did not know this till I looked at my dog's paperwork a full year after I got him. He was born in 2016. My boy has allergies and I hope that's the extent of his health problems. We love him so dearly. read more

I picked up my puppy last year at 8 weeks and he is now 14 months old and he is absolutely perfect. The training and the quality of the dogs they have are amazing. I am continually complimented on my little Zach on how cute and perfect looking he is. This is my 3rd dog from them. The quality of the dog you get from Susana Labs is the best which is why I went back to Teresa when my previous two passed away at 13 1/2 years old. I had a boy and a girl together. We traveled from Northern CA and bought a trained puppy from Susana Labradors. We had a great experience with them from beginning to pickup and on. We chose this breeder primarily because of their good looking quality labs and they offered training. Although the training was expensive, it was worth it for us. Since the bf and I both work full-time and don't have time to train a puppy from the beginning (but still wanted to enjoy the puppy stages), getting the puppy trained by the breeder really helped. BREEDER: Teresa was very nice, responsive and helpful throughout the whole process. Her and her staff were very patient when we went to select our pup (took us a good 2-3 hours, all the pups were so darn cute!!). They told us about the personalities of each one, health history and pedigree of the parents (with proof & we got to meet some of the parents), life with a lab, how to prep & train, list goes on.. they really know their stuff. All her dogs seemed happy and healthy (and again, ADORABLE). She kept us updated on the progress of our pup's training and sent videos and pics. At one point she thought our pup may need an extra week of training and offered that at no extra charge, but it turned out that our pup got better towards the end and we took her home as scheduled! They even provided a training report in addition to her health certificate and all. OUR PUPPY (pic attached): We selected our pup when she was 10 weeks old. Training took 5 weeks. When we brought her home, she was crate trained, potty trained to go outside (had a few accidents & tinkles when excited), knew sit, down, stay, wait, high five, red light, wrong, and how to fetch & bring back a ball. She also walked fairly well on the leash with a little pull and knew basic house manners like not to climb on the couch. She had to potty every 2 hours during the day in the first few weeks, but that's gotten a lot better over time. She tested positive for Giardia initially but the vet said it's common (our previous dog had it before as well) and with some meds, it went away. Our now-6-months-old pup is 35 lbs., beautiful, super sweet, mellow, playful, social, happy, healthy, smart, very well mannered & trained.. everything we could've hoped for! She gets compliments and attention EVERYWHERE we go; our vet told us that we are lucky to have such a good looking & well mannered puppy and loves her so much that she even asked to meet us at the dog park to play with her when she's not working. We feel like proud dog-parents :). I'm so happy I 1) decided to get a lab, 2) got our puppy from this breeder, & 3) got her trained. I have recommended them to others already and will return if I ever want a 2nd lab! read more

We have the most beautiful, charismatic, well adjusted, and healthy dog...I could go on and on. We took our time looking, went back twice before picking him. The owner was nice to meet however a younger man helped us, sorry but I forgot his name. We feed our dog the food they recommended and did an enormous amount of research on the food...it's great stuff and they deliver it. Our pup is a huge part of our lives and I don't think I could ever find a finer canine than the one I picked from Susana Labradors. If you would like to personal message me I can tell you more. I meet with my dogs parents, his dad was huge, his Mom slim and petite. I wanted a smaller lab, a more stream-lined body...like the Mom. We got just that. It was noted to us at the time of our purchase, by Susana's, that they did suffer from bad management in the past, and some bad breeding resulted. We were happy with what we saw. Our dogs name is Whiskey, the same "temporary" name they assigned to him at the breeder. We've had our pup for 1 year now, we picked him up at 4 months old. I read the reviews before we went and gave benefit to the doubt. Everything I saw looked fine. They did have a puppy that was inbreed from the old Manager and that was explained to me and I saw the pup. They didn't have plans on selling it, it was losing its fur apparently. Sad, but that was due to a bad employee. They gave me disclosure and I am fine with that. I do consider myself a very keen consumer, I want the best. Now, I know going here with all the bad reviews would have seemed stupid. You can see and make sense out of a lot of the reviews just by going to this place and taking a look. I'm sure there are some bad dogs that have been purchased, but how can you know for sure that the dogs are going to be "perfect" as they grow? You can't. The Giardia is no big deal, dogs get this all the time from what I understand. Our dog had it, we got the meds and it was gone. Our dog is an athlete and I have spent a lot of time training him, he picks up on things fast and he's one hell of a sprinter, so fast. We do the vitamin Susana's recommended every day as well as the food they recommend, and fish oil caps. His coat is super shiny and he's very muscular and lean. I have posted pictures of my dog so you can see what he looks like. He seems to still be growing a bit, but weighing in at 55lbs after one year of age. We are happy he is not a large lab and looks just like his Mom. Whiskey is a beautiful handsome dog. He has a great personality and loves to play. I can't say enough about him with regards to his personality, build, and health. If something does develop, such as the PRA (blindness) or some other issue, I will update this post. But for now. We are 100% happy and want another one. read more

I dont know how these folks are in business. Was looking to purchase a puppy. They sent back a laundry list of questions and I get it. They want to be sure puppy goes to a good home. 10 years ago my family purchased an english cream lab from Teresa - she has been the most lovely , loving and amazing pet. It was just recently that i realized how great Teresa was as a breeder. we decided to add to our family and got a french bulldog puppy. The puppy wasn't vaccinated when we got her and ended up testing positive for distemper and passed away. I learned the hard way of the absolute value of a good breeder. The tips Teresa gave us when we got our pup from her - the recommendations on vitamins, habits and how to maintain a healthy dog were on point. We rarely are at the vet with the exception of a bath and a routine vaccine. at 10 Years our baby is just as healthy and beautiful as she was at 10 weeks. I am so grateful to Susana Labradors for their commitment to excellence and the well being of their dogs. In my opinion - they are an 11 out of 10! read more

While initially extremely disappointed with Susana Labradors, I wanted to update to say that after 4 rounds of tests and antibiotics, we finally knocked the giardia out of our dog. In addition, we finally got her ear issue under control as well. We do love our dog and see does have a good temperament and personality. While Susanna was responsive to our initial negative remarks, I did feel they were more concerned about their Yelp reputation than our frustrations. Whatever the motive though, I did appreciate them contacting us. read more

We bought an older pup in 2010. She was pregnant! They told us accidental pregnancies are common and to take our pup back to whelp at their property. We decided to keep her and only 7 puppies (out of 10) survived. It took us months to place the puppies with good families. Now she has blindness, chronic ear infections, and leaks urine. But we love her regardless! I did not realize so many others had similar problems. Upon careful evaluation of the "records" we received in terms of shots, lineage, contract, vet docs, etc., they are a joke. We got ripped off. read more

We bought our white Lab at an auction for education and she was provided by Susana Labradors. Our dog is a white Lab beautiful and wonderful temperament. Unfortunately, she is very sick and we have been told that her renal failure at 5 years 10 months is almost unheard of. Very unusual. Our dog first had trouble with a torn ACL at 8 months. We were also told she had possible future hip dysplasia. We are worried that her genes may not be so good. Her genes for temperament and beauty are excellent. I tried to call the breeder. Their number has been disconnected; I have no idea if they are still in business. I phoned the vet who donated her for the auction and his staff tell me they are not sure they are still in business. I wanted to warn the breeder to follow the trail of the puppies from these two dogs Saki and Chopper to see if any of those pups have had problems. I was going to suggest they not breed those two together just to be safe. If anyone has a Lab whose parents were Saki and Chopper from Susana Labs, it might be wise to have your dog's blood work done. We discovered today that her blood work showed elevated numbers at eight months. The vet who did the ultra sound sent for those labs from the vet who did the surgery. Because of her previous bloodwork and her present blood work and condition, he says her illness is likely congenital. I have never had such a young pet be so sick at such a young age. The only saving grace from this astronomical emotional pain and expense for vet is the fact we do have pet insurance. I would recommend that to anyone owning a dog or cat. Vet bills are huge. I am afraid I cannot give Susana Breeders a good rating because of negligence or ignorance, they may be selling dogs who have genetic issues. read more

I seriously can't believe all the negative reviews. I purchased a Lab puppy from this breeder about 4 years ago, and I had a great experience. My dog, who is now approaching 4 years of age, is healthy and well adjusted. I plan on purchasing my next dog from this breeder even though they have changed names. I have had a wonderful experience with Teresa and "Susana Labradors" as well. My dog Lola, is an 8 year old English Cream Lab. She is amazing, perfectly healthy and happy. Is a extremely well mannered, loves kids, babies, all other dogs, horses and only barks at skunks. I could go on. Before I absolutely flog these jokers on yelp, let me start by saying my puppy is beautiful and I really do love her and consider her a member of my family. With that being said, I must warn anyone who is considering buying a puppy from Susana Labradors about what has taken place since I brought her home in March. Like the previous poster, Bryan H., I have also had to take her in for several rounds of tests and had to purchase as many rounds of meds for giardia, something that seems to be a trend with this particular breeder, judging by the yelp reviews. That was an unforeseen expense and stressful experience for my pup, but recently she was found to be free giardia-free. ...But she is by no means out of the woods yet. For a while, she has had a problem with making it to the bathroom. I know, you're probably thinking this is normal, she's just a puppy and she'll learn. But, as a matter of fact, she's gotten quite good at asking to go outside to pee... WHEN SHE'S AWAKE! That's right, this puppy doesn't have a discipline problem, she just happens to LEAK URINE WHILE SHE SLEEPS! After getting an ultrasound today, the vet is advising I take her to a specialist for an additional exam to see what's the matter; this will cost about $5,000 more! The vet added that this is a VERY unusual problem and that she couldn't remember the last time she's encountered a puppy with so many health issues. Plenty of people have taken to re-naming her "Lemon" because she is a yellow lab that looks great, but has hidden problems "under the hood". This is the first puppy I've ever brought home and I thought I was doing the right thing by going to a reputable breeder, but it appears I couldn't have been further from the truth. I was naive to not realize what Susana Labradors is: a backyard puppy mill turning a buck off of poorly bred dogs. So again, if you're thinking of buying a lab here, think again. We purchased our dog Emma in 2012. According to her paperwork her DOB was 06/20/2012, puppy from MAGIC and CHOPPER. She was amazing dog with major health issue. After spending almost $20,000 for her brain surgery and treatment she died... 4 years later we are still heartbroken from that horrible experience. She was a sweetest dog and we are happy that she got out of that horrible puppy mill place and lived in love with us for her short 4 year old age, I feel bad for those that live with Teresa with no care only neglect and keep producing sick dogs for other families to spend thousands of dollars and break their hearts anyway, for her easy cash! I am not a dog person... Heck, I'm not even a pet person, I haven't had a pet since I was probably 18 years old. Although, I did have a dog growing up named Colten that was pretty rad. I wouldn't call this place a "breeder" more like a puppy mill that sells genticitally mutated and inbred dogs for thousands. They also do not back up their dogs and many end up at high kill shelters due to their inbred cronic infections. I "rescued" a susanas dog, a red lab... akc named Susansa's Rusty Nail (aka Rusty). He has crontic ear infections, deformed ears and ear canals, severe allergies, hip displasia and other internal deformities. The poor dog is in constant pain and was on the kill list at a local shelter because when they called his breeder Susansas, she refused to take him back (leaving him in the shelter to be put to death)... things reputable breeders do not do. If that is not warning enough... A client of mine recently paid 2k and bought a disfunctional lab puppy (Cheyanne) from Susan's, the dog has the same issues as Rusty and she is a dwarf that has failed to grow properly. Her poor parents are spending thousands on vet bills. read more

We reached out to Teresa based on a referral from our good friends who have the most beautiful and well-behaved cream lab (their lab is now 13). They had worked with Teresa and paid extra for the crate/potty training, and had been so pleased with the entire process, they couldn't recommend her enough. Teresa was great to work with, laying out timelines, sending lots of pictures of the puppies in the litter, and keeping us posted via text. She interviewed us as much as we interviewed her to ensure we would be a good family for her pups. We put a deposit on a puppy who ultimately didn't make it and had to wait for the next litter, as we were looking for a specific color and sex. While we were waiting for the next litter, we unexpectedly had to move to the East Coast. Due to our transition, we decided it was not the best time to take on a new puppy and withdrew our names from the list. I informed Teresa and after verifying our details, she very quickly refunded our deposit. She was always friendly, professional and easy to work with - which was not the case with may other breeders we had reached out to. While the timing didn't work out for us for now, we would gladly work with her again. read more

I went back and forth from 4 to 5 stars on this review. While searching for a dog a year ago I looked at Labradors, and Goldens, and even Aussies! My wife and I got our dog Bigfoot from Susana Labradors when he was 8 weeks old. He is now a very healthy, smart, bouncy two and a half year old adult. Tons of people tell us how beautiful he is, and how sweet. A lot of them ask where we got him. We are very careful people and did a lot of research on breeders. We met Teresa and the puppy's parents. We met three dogs from a litter of six and knew immediately which one we wanted. This would have been impossible if we had a dog shipped to us. Teresa was also careful about us. We had to fill out a questionnaire about us, our house, yard, and prior experience with pets. She wants to make sure her dogs have good homes. Bigfoot was partially trained when we picked him up. He was accustomed to walking on a leash, and was already crate trained. He only had one accident a couple of weeks after we got him. Like most Labradors, he is loyal, peaceful, friendly, and loves water. If you haven't heard the term before Labs have "soft mouths" and can very gently carry things. Ours will pick up raw eggs in the shell and bring them to us unbroken. There are some things which are hard to tell about your puppy ahead of time. Our dear Bigfoot loves to be in the car and never gets carsick. That's fortunate, because he likes to travel and hike just about anywhere, unless it is really hot. The only drawback about a Lab in Southern California is that they don't like weather over about 85 degrees. They hunt for the nearest water or shade. In summer, we throw him ice or frozen peas. We have also noticed something about our car which is very helpful: separately controlled rear seat air conditioning vents. I highly recommend Teresa and her Labs. We still drop by occasionally, and Bigfoot stays there when we are on vacation. He gets to play with relatives and has a great time. read more

We bought our sweet labrador from Teresa four years ago and had nothing but good experiences. I have owned four labs in my life and Kaya is the best mannered of all. We passed on the training as I was pretty exprienced already in raising labs. Believe me, we did a lot of research before we found Suzanna Labs. Regarding the cost of our dog, I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. Kaya has brought such joy into our lives that the cost is immaterial to me. As my wife and I travel a few times a year, we have boarded Kaya at their kennel several times over the past four years. In fact, we drive up all the way up from Long Beach to do it. Kaya jumps out of our car and heads right into their house without looking back! She obviously has a wonderful time in their pool. Their boarding rates are very reasonable. Regarding the number of negative reviews, sometimes puppies do get ill. Giardia does occur sometimes, and can be treated with meds. But when your dog gets sick, it is a very traumatic experience, and therefore I understand the reviewers' reactions. I highly recommend Susana Labs to anyone looking for a wonderful addition to their family. read more
