Around July 23, 2018, I visited Susan Lee Atlanta in search of a white dress to wear for my husband's and my vow renewal for our 30th Anniversary dinner on Aug. 3, 2018. I was referred there by another store that didn't have anything in the style I liked. When I got to SLA, I was greeted by the friendly staff but was serviced by a sweet lady named Elizabeth. I explained to her what I needed and when. I wanted a white dress that wasn't ultra wedding-like for a vow renewal in a private Buckhead restaurant with family and friends. She walked through the store with me but to no avail, there wasn't anything to suit my taste. Elizabeth showed so much compassion for my situation. She suggested I look at dresses on the floor and see if there was a designer who's dress style I liked. If I found one she'd try to help me by contacting the distributor directly because SLA has great relationships with their distributors and I could possibly get a white dress in time. I went home and looked up dresses by one of the designers online and contacted Elizabeth the next day with my choices. She said she'd be in touch about availability. First I needed to come back out to the store to try on a similar dress by the designer to be sure of the size I needed from them. On July 24, 2018, we verified what size I needed, Elizabeth got approval from her manager to order the dress with the caveat that if it didn't work for me once it came in, the manager agreed they'd keep it and sell it because she felt like they wouldn't have any problem selling it. Thankfully, the distributor had the size I needed!! Elizabeth ordered the dress and I paid for it in full with that understanding. My dress arrived at SLA on Tuesday evening and that Wednesday afternoon, I was there to try it on. Many of the ladies who worked in the store were there waiting to see whose dress this was and couldn't wait for me to try it on. I was excited and nervous as if I were a new bride all over again. I tried on the dress with my husband there and we were all in awe! I felt beautiful and was so happy with my dress and with what Elizabeth made happen for us! I cried tears of joy. I am so thankful and blessed to have encountered Elizabeth and the Susan Lee seamstress angel~named Angel who accommodated me by making the alterations my dress needed the same day while I waited so I wouldn't have to come all the way back to West Paces Ferry from Tucker, GA to pick it up on another day. I truly believe that God sent me there so that everything would work out according to His plan and I'd get the dress I was meant to have. Everyone at my dinner loved it and I felt as beautiful a bride as I did 30 years ago. I can't say enough about the impeccable care and customer service I received from the Susan Lee team. Took an out-of-town friend to Susan Lee to shop for a mother-of-the-bride gown. We were knocked out by the huge selection--sizes, colors, styles, but even more so, by the friendly, helpful guidance of our saleswoman, Graciela. There was no snotty attitude, no body-shaming, no hard-sell. She listened to my friend's needs, brought her gowns and gave honest, helpful feedback on each one. My friend ended up buying a gown for the wedding and another for an upcoming formal wedding where she'll be a guest, as well as some casual separates. The owner of the shop personally fitted the gown for alterations. And I ended up finding a new place to shop too. read more

To me, Susan Lee is the quintessential uppercrust Atlanta shop. It's all very hoity-toity, without too much actual pretense. The building itself isn't all that special, with dated floral wallpaper everywhere and gross carpeting, yet it still holds incredible appeal. It's like your grandmother's attic, full of beautiful treasures. The saleswomen are hysterical: richer than rich Southern accents, lots of personality, and they say things like "razzmatazz" with a straight face. I just love it. All this being said, the clothes are exhorbitantly expensive. Think 4-digits for most dresses/suits. A lot of the clothes skew a bit older (think mother of the bride) but there are still a lot of beautiful things to be found for us young-folk. They sometimes have great sales, with 75% off. This is a strictly special-occasion place, I'd only venture in here for weddings, pageants, balls, and the like. Since I don't go to those all too often, I'm not much a Susan Lee regular, but I'm pretty sure that Atlanta's high-society provides plenty of those. read more

An experience! I had read reviews and heard @ this place but I wanted to check it out for myself. Well......it's interesting. I guess. Two level store, almost like a house as it has these individual rooms with women's merchandise tucked away in each. Intrigued. As soon as we walked in the front door, someone greeted us and asked "what are you looking for?" She proceeded to pull a few dresses off the rack and then replied, "I don't think we have what you are looking for." How @ that?! As we walked out I tried to look around, the way the merchandise is laid out in the rooms doesn't really make sense to me so I don't think this is a place you "shop" or "browse" on your own. It's too bad because I did see some pretty things and one dress I really liked but left w/o trying it on. Some beautiful merchandise and I guess used to serving each woman individually; not for browsing and comes with a bit of an attitude. If you dig all that, go there. read more

You can go for the glitz, but it aint no Miz Scarlett's, I can tell you that much. I have had multiple great experiences at Susan Lee. Clothing and merchandise ranges from prom, special occasion, mother-of-the-bride, and more. In Susan Lee, you'd prefer to have a sales associate help you. They have alterations available IN the store, which is fantastic. I have used them each time I have gone. For hemming, taking in, letting out, I let 'em cut it up! I have been able to find classic pieces that are knock-out, sophisticated, and mature. I've also spent way too much time browsing and playing with the little dog they keep upstairs. I was able to find two great pieces for my graduation, as well as my prom dress that I'm positive will be able to be worn again. I had this GREAT top from Susan Lee that I had outgrown. Seriously, I could have cried. I kid you not, I took this top back to Susan Lee, and basically wallowed over the travesty. 10 minutes later, after squeezin' huffin' and puffin', a woman brought me a duplicate of the EXACT SAME TOP. We're talking a top that I had purchased FOUR YEARS AGO. I was in LUCK! They were able to adjust the new top, although I did have to re-buy ;) Oh friends, it was the best shopping experience I have ever had. They don't give up on their customers, they are determined to satisfy. read more

I recently made the 4 hour trip to Atlanta to find a dress for my son's wedding. I did find one and it was ordered. I also bought two other expensive cocktails dress one of which also had to be ordered. When they came in I returned to Atlanta to be fitted. I was assured that they had an excellent alterations staff. All I can says is....do not let their alterations department touch your garment. The alterations lady was nice but did not listen to me or the sales staff. She did what she wanted to do and she RUINED my dress. I was still charged for horrible alterations that the store owner knew I was unhappy about. The dress had to "fixed" as best she could in my hometown. All in all I would never shop at Susan Lee's again. read more

Susan Lee - pretty on the outside with curb appeal, smelly on the inside. With looking for a gown for my daughters wedding, I was greeted with waiting with others to find that special dress. She had limited fitting rooms and I felt so pressured to commit to the purchase even though I told her I was going to look other places. With saying that her demurer changed and I felt as though she couldn't wait for me to leave the store. I felt totally unwelcome at that point. I Love this store!! I was super nervous about finding a "mother of the groom" dress, but Elizabeth was awesome. She helped me find the perfect dress for me, as well as a rehearsal dinner, bridesmaid luncheon and other activity outfits. She acted like I was the only customer in the store. She was friendly, honest and made something I was dreading a fabulous experience. When I went back for my fitting she was gracious and kind. I am very busy and have no time to shop. Elizabeth is the best sales person I have ever experienced! I went in to find my Mother of the Bride gown, 10 lbs heavier than 5'2 should be and not looking forward to finding the right thing. Elizabeth found it! I put it on and she put on the correct jewelry and it is perfect! out of there in no time. Next time in for hemming and wanting some sport clothes and she did the same , 20 minutes and out with two great unique outfits that flatter me! Beautiful clothes, lots of service!!! I'm at the lower end of the price point and yet the salespeople, Susan and her daughter have worked hard to find things that work in my budget. I have a cute knit summer dress that was relatively inexpensive and has held up for four summers heavy wear. I've gotten so many compliments. It is a pleasure to go into a store where they fit a broad range of sizes, bring jewelry and purses in to you to try. They have a nice custom made line of suits that are similar to St. John Knits but without the serious price tag. I've bought several evening dresses there and would love to go into the higher ranges but have found beautiful things in my price range. If you give them enough time they can usually order something in the color you want it in. Where ELSE can you get that kind of help! I highly recommend the store and the people. read more

Drove to Atlanta from Birmingham to shop at this particular store. I had talked with Elizabeth on the phone and immediately asked for her upon arrival. She is fabulous!! She lets you browse to see what you like and after a few changes, gets to work on what looks best on you!! Found the perfect "Mother of the Bride" dress for me! It took a while, but Elizabeth never gave up. Also, Verdine works with her and she is such a delight. The other sales people could not have been nicer and got to meet the famous "Sheshe." 10 years ago Susan Lee herself helped me find a dress for my first son's wedding and it - and she - were wonderful! I had complete trust in her taste and advice on what was flattering on me. When I returned to the store last year to buy a dress for my 2nd son's wedding I was very sad to learn she had passed away but assumed the salesperson helping me would carry on her tradition of service and satisfaction. She did not. I should have known when she was very inattentive during the appointment and when I found a last minute dress out of desperation she totally mislead me, assuring it was custom made and she knew the designer and could make the changes to the dress and sleeves I wanted. I asked her very specific questions because I was concerned that the structure and seaming of the dress would not allow the changes, but was always assured it would not be a problem and she advised the black instead of another color. So, the dress which was overpriced to begin with at $3000 arrived without the changes...the sleeves were lined and as I feared, removing the lining would look strange and expose my armpits because of where the seams hit, They were also not 3/4 sleeves but hit just below the elbow even after measuring and the dress was at least 2 sizes too large, resulting in expensive and numerous alterations. It was also very black and would have looked much prettier lined in a different color like the sample dress in the store, and was not at all flattering to me.Having run out of time, the dress was shipped to me after $300 of alterations a week before the wedding. Some alterations were not done and others done poorly so I spent another $200 getting altered again in my hometown. The seamstress here showed me numerous shortcuts that had been taken and how poorly made the dress was and beads were missing and lace torn where it had been cut and altered. The solution the clerk and seamstress at Susan's came up with for the sleeves looked awful and home-made, instead of like a custom $3000 dress that cost me almost $4000 with alterations. Ruined my son's wedding for this MOG. I have never been so disappointed and embarrassed to wear anything! Awful experience and very sad that Susan Lee's memory is being disrespected this way! read more
