I normally don't write reviews, but I feel obligated to share this after what happened to someone close to me. A family friend recently had a very troubling experience with Surner Heating. They clearly canceled their oil delivery, received confirmation of that cancellation, and were shocked when the company delivered the oil anyway--then charged them around $700 and refused to take responsibility. The explanation given was essentially "we delivered it, so you have to pay," despite the prior cancellation. From the outside looking in, this feels incredibly wrong. Charging someone for a service they explicitly canceled--after confirming that cancellation--is not just poor customer service, it's a serious breach of trust. If you're considering doing business with them, I would strongly recommend being cautious, especially about putting a credit card on file. Based on what I witnessed, this situation could easily happen again. On top of everything, the way the situation was handled afterward only made it worse--no accountability, no meaningful resolution. My goddaughter cancelled an upcoming delivery and got confirmation of the cancelled delivery on the phone call. They delivered the oil and charged her anyway. They would not make it right and refund her the money or try any other way to make it right. Who does that? read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They have botched a furnace repair for my bf. They have needed to go out 3 times, left wires hanging and exposed, and just broke his door. Furnace is still not working. He also just got oil delivered at .10 higher per gallon than quoted price. Absolutely livid. read more

I would not recommend this company. I have been using Surner for years for oil delivery and have not had a problem with that part. However, when it was very cold I waited a full week from the time I placed my order to when it was actually delivered. That was frustrating, but I always order early so I did not run out. I first had a problem with them when I scheduled routine service for my boiler. They require that you pay in advance, so I did. The day of the appointment no one showed. I called and they told me the appointment had been cancelled. It was not me, and I live alone, so it was obviously a clerical error. Wouldn't you try to refund the prepaid fee if the appointment was cancelled and not rescheduled? Anyways, since I had already paid $179 I rescheduled. They performed routine maintenance and ever since my whole basement reeks of burning oil. I am not sure what they did, and I honestly never smelled that odor before they did the work. It is an old boiler, and I will likely replace it soon, but I first noticed it after the technician left and it has not gone away in the one month that has passed. I called and they told me it would be $108 dollars just to come to look at it. No thanks. I will find someone else to fix the problem because now I am doubtful that their technicians are competent. It seems this company does not stand behind their work, but will happily take your money. Beware. read more

locally owned. Very reliable. They have repaired various parts on old furnace and kept in tip top shape. Have been helpful over the phone . Deliver oil in a timely manner. They are not the least expensive in the area but always there to help. As an older single woman I appreciate using a local business that provides excellent customer service. read more

We were Surner customers since moving to the area (ten years). Last winter we ran out of oil several times and had to fill the tank with diesel to keep the house heated. Some winters we enrolled in the prepaid program and the rest we paid market rate depending on how the price of oil looked. We always paid them a sizable sum in advance. We were on automatic delivery but they never seemed to show up the last couple of winters so I would call when we got below a 1/4th and still we ran ou twice. We ended up with a burst pipe this time last year not resulting from a lack of oil but a Issue with a zone controler, Surner"s service did what we thought at the time was a great job with the repair. They replaced two of the three zone controllers and a presure tank. We began buying our oil from another locally owned company who has no problem keeping oue tank filled. About two weeks ago the heat in our second floor would not heat up so I called Surner as they replaced that controler last winter as well as the credit. They refused to come out and check there own work. The woman who I talked to was beyond rude. The seevice team from another local company came out In a couple of days and replaced the broken controler. You would think Surner would have stood by their work. read more

greenfield- tried to charge my 300 dollar credit against me. wtf. they claim their computer system is flawless. it is flawed by humans working there. also I am missing 62 gallons from the last delivery but was charged for it. I am reporting the greenfield office to the authorities. if I were you I would choose someone more honest than this company. they love to take advantage. read more

We've user Surner for about three years now and can only say good things about the service that they have provided to us. Their oil prices have been fair and the service work has been first rate. About a year ago I wanted to replace our 20 year thermostats with modern WiFi enabled thermostats. I should have been able to do this myself by the low voltage thermostat wiring in the house was all screwed up. (To start with, no "C" wire was present.) I called Surner and they sent over a technician who clearly has been working on HVAC wiring for 20+ years. It took him some time but he untangled the mess and got the new thermostats working in no time. Was his work free or cheap, no, but the cost was in the range of that I expected to pay for the work of a high trained craftsperson. read more

Customer service is poor. I had Whiting in the past and while they were a bit more expensive however they were always polite and willing to answer questions. The "vibe" that they give at Surner reminds me of the old Lily Tomlin skits where she plays a phone operator- you know the line- "we don't care cause we don't have to" well I guess Surner thinks this applies to them as well!!! read more

We can not say enough good things about surner. They are always quick, polite on the phone or in person, and extremely helpful in resolving issues. They always gave me good estimates on work and always called or informed me when a glitch came up. Very trustworthy. It is a fact that the level of service and competency that Surner provides has gone way down during the last decade. They left us out of oil although we are on their automatic delivery list and prepay for the entire season. Every time right after their annual tune-up service, we have no heat and/or hot water. Then we have to pay high price for them to look at what they previously did wrong. Their manager is extremely rude and arrogant. When you try to talk to him about any issues, he will just raise his voice and talk over you. read more

I would not recommend this company if you are looking for fair service as a return customer. They will not have your back. If you want better, old fashioned, respectful service I would say try the other local oil company in Amherst or use other online vendors who will charge you less and respectfully help you in a pinch and not price gouge. Pretty disheartened by this companies lack of regard to answer one question and then charge you for the mistake that gets made. Bad form folks. read more
