In the interest of not waiting two months to write a review due to self-doubt, I'll just disclose my bias. I liked the cod taco but it won't replace Tacoway Beach in Queens which may be unfair. But the mahi taco was top-notch so I'd endorse doubling up or getting this fish in a non-taco configuration. The salsa bar was great. I liked Baja and Hot and was correct with my careful approach to the powerful pineapple habanero. Salsas and guacamole were a delicious snack. I had one shrimp taco I should have inquired if they had corn tortillas to substitute. I prefer corn for my tacos over flour. Restaurant is nice and clean. Restroom is strangely half run down and half nice. They put in a fancy sink, but didn't upgrade the stalls. Overall recommend for an easy quick meal or snack. read more

I was surprised how big and delicious the tacos were for a chain restaurant. Fish was fresh and not fishy and the surf sauce was the perfect addition with the squeeze of lime. I would say reminds me of chipotle mayo ....Def my new fave quick lunch spot and for $7.99 can't beat it yummmm. The chicken quesadilla was huge as well and they didn't skimp on the fillings. Came in for lunch. They have a pickup area right at the registers. If you are ordering, they don't like you being in the wrong spot even though there is no sign. Once you order, you get a number flag and find a table. I got the surf burrito, with battered cod. Also got it Baja style, which adds an avocado lime sauce and a chipotle Mayo. Either way it was really good. The fish was lightly battered and the veggies tasted fresh. It came with some chips which I got hot salsa for. They were tasty. I've been to almost all of ST's locations and their spot in Red Bank just isn't my favorite. It has more a commercial and industrial feel and less of a beachy laid back vibe. Considering that this is one of the only locations not on the beach, I guess that makes sense. But I still prefer the Long Branch or Belmar location any day of the week. It's also always really overcrowded here. Atmosphere aside, it's Surf Taco and regardless of which location you choose, they've got delicious food that is consistent every time. I only ever order a chicken tender taco, which has crispy breaded chicken topped with ranch, shredded cheddar, pico and lettuce. It's delicious, perfect and probably one of the better things that I've had to eat. One overflowing taco with complimentary chips and a side of guac is usually more then enough to satisfy my appetite. Tacos aside, there are a ton of different routes to take. Fajitas, dillas, burritos, bowls, wraps, salads.... the list is endless. If you have never been to a Surf Taco then don't waste time. Go! read more

Spending the day in Red Bank with one of my girl friends, we got hungry and decided to pop in for a meal. We weren't starved so we each ordered one taco. She ordered the Mahi Mahi taco with avocado & I ordered the special mango shrimp. It was an awesome soft taco stuffed with coconut crusted shrimp, cabbage, an avocado dressing, and deliciously marinated mango pieces! Toooo yummy and I think it was about $5.5 for the taco, a small side of chips and their salsa bar (take advantage). From the salsa bar, my favourite salsa is the third one and I think it is called "Hot". It has a little kick with the typical cilantro flavour. Veryyyy yummy w the chips. New favorite Tex-Mex restaurant! I had the Costa Rican Burrito. It tasted home-made, not too salty. Rice beans, pico de gallo, cheese, HUGE tortilla. It didn't upset my stomach like Chipotle usually does. I was totally digging the surfer vibe. I felt like I was in Cali, not cold NJ. If you aren't in Red Bank, there are plenty of locations in the Jersey Shore. A visit to the Jersey Shore isn't complete without Surf Taco! read more

Ordered a bowl for my wife, was supposed to have chicken, it came with salmon (what seemed like canned salmon at that). Double checked our DD order and it was chicken. We've been visiting Surf Taco for years. This is a main stay in our restaurant rotation. It's not fancy, but it's good beachy taco menu. The restaurant has a very beachy vibe, from the wall art, reclaimed booths and surf videos on the TVs. My family enjoys watching the surfers while we wait for our food. The salsa bar is really fun and let's us experiment and explore new tastes. The verde has a nice tart tanginess, the baja is spicy with a smokey flavor and the mild -- is just that -- mild. Something for everyone. I love that they have two registers, one for take-out and one for dining in. Where you order, and then make your own drinks, stop by the salsa bar and then grab a seat. Your food is brought to you at your table, so you can sit back and relax. I gave this 3 stars because occasionally the food is inconsistent in preparation. COVID: With the recent ban on indoor dining, Surf Taco has implemented a solid pick up process and introduced a new app. The app is awesome, super easy to use and since we are creatures of habit, I can go and just click "reorder" on our previous purchase and know we will get what everyone wants. You know, I gotta say I find it to be pretty good, nothing amazing, but good. We stop here occasionally when we want something simple and quick with the kids. I have had a couple different Burritos and they always leave me a bit disappointed flavor wise, the chimichanga however is excellent. The tacos are pretty good, one time I got steak and it was super chewy and not worth the extra charge at all. I do love the salsa bar, and the guacamole is pretty good, albeit a bit pricey. Actually, I think they're a bit pricey overall for what it is. So for me, if you want a burrito, this wouldn't be my first choice. The tacos and chimichanga I would absolutely go for. I always get the combo number 2 where you get two tacos and a side of beans and rice with a drink. The teriyaki chicken tacos are so good, very well flavored especially with the added pineapples. Not sure what happened to the garlic shrimp taco portion. It's one of the most expensive and the one I was served today was the smallest taco I've ever gotten there with shrimp that were the size of dimes and mostly cabbage. It used to be huge and filling. Came in for lunch this past Sunday and the place was bumpin', however the line still moved quickly and food for my table was delivered without delay. Surf is a cool looking spot with plenty to stimulate you visually while you stuff your face; from vibrant and tripy artwork to physically fit beach bums and eccentric locals. They also have an AC system that was doing a fairly good job at countering the oppressive heat wave we've been experiencing. The only problems I had with Surf came because Emmett was starving and they rejected the special requests for both my first and second choices. I started with ordering the Buffalo Soldier burrito (lightly breaded chicken smothered in spicy buffalo sauce wrapped together with rice, lettuce, Pico de Gallo & creamy blue cheese dressing), but without lettuce or blue cheese because it is the worst cheese in the world, instead requesting they use their jack and cheddar blend; Response- it comes with the jack and cheddar already (though it's an unlisted ingredient), but blue cheese is mixed in the sauce. Blood sugar rapidly dropping, I moved on to my second choice and ordered the BBQ Chicken wrap (chicken smothered in BBQ sauce and "frizzle" onions, with lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo) sans lettuce, tomato, and onion; Response- onions are mixed in the sauce. Cranky Emmett can only take so much, but at least the Dr. Pepper I was able to get came with free refills (especially since they only sell 16oz kiddie cups). The reason they get three stars instead of the one to two I wanted to award them is because all the other diners' food looked great and they thoroughly enjoyed it, plus, I liked the variety of the menu and figured I'd have a better experience when my appetites are different (though I doubt I'll ever make it back). Take a cue from the King and let people have it their way, then maybe I can eat when I visit instead of shaking my fist in frustration at your teenage cashiers. read more

My son really wanted to bring me here - since he's years away from driving I took him here, but really I was only the driver. The space is cool with fun murals on the walls and surf movies showing. There's the salsa bar for your chips or to dress your tacos. Some might think it's gross having those large bowls of salsa sitting out. Those people shouldn't come here. Two orders of fish tacos and two drinks ran about $10. The tacos were awesome as were the accompanying warm chips. Avocado slices were a little firm, but that's being really picky. All the sour cream, salsas, fixings you could hope for. They provided serving trays and utensils and all the sides and heating needed for everything. They delivered/set up/and even took the packaging/trash out on the way out. Everyone raved about the food and it was extremely well priced. Booking was quick and easy and all was done remotely, did not need to go there. I would 10/10 recommend and will use again for future events. Surf taco is a great island style food place that had Mexican/seafood Type. Both locations are great and the decor is awesome! I love how they constantly play surfing videos on the televisions that even in winter make you feel like you are in the islands.
