I called in after one of the fuses on my AC unit went out. They helped by telling me it was a simple fix to replace the fuse myself and I could avoid the service fee. Really appreciate their honesty and helpfulness and will come to them with other issues in the future. read more

Red was great, couldn't have asked for a more down to earth, helpful, and educational without trying to sell. During a heat wave they were here in less than an hour from our first call. Couldn't recommend Surf Bros HVAC enough. read more

Thank you to Surf Bros! Had a central A/C unit that wasn't properly cooling. A tech visited two days later and identified a bad capacitor that needed to be replaced. He also noted another unit the same age on the property that was showing similar symptoms. Surf Bros was great about coordinating with the tenants for the service visit. read more

Red saved the day, and the wedding gift. Anderson quoted us $13k to replace our "totally broken" outdoor A/C unit for our 2-bedroom condo. A second company gave us a wide range of less ridiculous pricing, but no real answer to the issue and they never ended up coming back. With a wedding looming, we assumed we'd have to wait for the summer to save more money and maybe get lucky with some wedding gifts to help pay for it all. So glad I saw Surf Bros HVAC in the neighborhood and gave it another shot. Red actually diagnosed the issue on our unit, returned with the correct part on the same day, topped off our refrigerant, and helped me sort out the new controller I installed for way less than a thousand dollars. We feel like we won the A/C service lottery on this one, what a great find in 2026 when it's summer every other week. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service, beyond unprofessional. They advertise 24/7. Called and someone answered sounding annoyed. I asked if anyone was available to come. They said yeah but we charge extra for weekend. Sure that's fine. Then I said how much for the job. Quoted me something 2.5x what other people are offering. I said I'd call them back in the next 20 mins, asked if that was ok. They said "not sure I'll pick up". Then hung up. Do better. read more

Just great! Spoke to Red of Surf Brothers regarding an HVAC heating malfunction, and Alex and an additional technician were on-site within 2 hours. The duo are smart, organized, thorough and friendly. We discussed the issue-cold air versus hot blowing through the vents. The guys ascended the roof, then spent about 40 minutes evaluating and cycling through the HVAC operation. Epic! Heater working again and at the estimated price given to me by Red. Recommend!! Hours listed are 24/7 and true to form;my tech said if the system failed during the night I should call. Reasonably priced. Professional. Great work ethic. Knowledgeable (my system is older.) read more

Called in to get a quote on repairing an 11-year-old mini split system I have in my condo. Spoke with Tracy (I think) on the phone, and she was awesome! Was able to squeeze me in for the next day and had Red come out to diagnose and give me his report/findings. Red and (James?) showed up on time and were super easy to talk to. Very down-to-earth guys and clearly knowledgeable about mini splits. Red looked at the system and talked me through what he was seeing, which, unfortunately for me, wasn't good news. When we went into the house, they provided me with valuable insights into the best systems and how we could route a new set of splits/pumps. Honest guys and clearly out there working hard. Overall a really good experience with a small local SD company. read more

I can't say enough good things about Surf Bros HVAC. I saw their truck in my neighborhood and called them to service my AC, which hadn't been checked since we moved in. They gave me a reasonable quote and explained the most needed repairs versus things that could wait. Johnny did the work and was efficient, friendly and unbothered by my barking dog. End of story right? Well the next day I noticed a bubble in my kitchen ceiling. Not knowing anything about how HVAC s work I called them because I was worried there was a leak from the AC. The owner of the business came out right away to take a look, and even though it was pretty clear the leak was unrelated to his team's work, he helped me get in touch with someone to fix it. The contractor came out and fixed the leak (which was a slow leak from my water pipe) but he had to cut through the ductwork to get there. Even though it wasn't their fault or responsibility Surf Bros came back and fixed the duct for free! Long story a little less long, if you're looking for friendly knowledgeable and reliable HVAC people call Red and Surf Bros! Plus the owners dog came on the job and supervised which was adorable. Thank you!!!! read more

Surf Bros is an outstanding HVAC company. Nathan was able to fit me in over the weekend to diagnose the problem with my air conditioning system. He was prompt, professional and honest. He was able to fix the problem in under an hour and didn't charge an outrageous fee. I will be a repeat customer and have already scheduled maintenance with him in the fall. You hope that your AC never fails in the middle of summer; but it's nice to know that a local company can fit you and not take advantage of the situation. Much appreciated and much respect to Surf Bros! read more

Having worked with a lot of contractors, I can tell when one that is outstanding and knows what they are talking about. Lately, it's been pretty hard for me to recommend people that have come to work on my house (delays, excuses, poor communication, shoddy quality of work). Red and his company Surf Bros HVAC meet my standards for high quality communication/customer service in addition to not upselling and being honest/customized based on our use of the HVAC system. They promptly came out when they said they would, provided a very systematic report and quote on what they thought was going on, and made a follow-up appointment repair with a spot-on price. Red has been in the business for a long time, and it really shows. I was a bit apprehensive that his company only had a couple of reviews, but I'm REALLY happy I took a chance on them. I know that I got lucky to get their services because Surf Bros HVAC is going to have a lot of business once referrals start pouring in. Red believes in full transparency of pricing. They had the best combo price for HVAC maintenance (what I initially ordered before they came to diagnose and fix my unit) - all other companies were at least 50 dollars more. They brought everything in my house up to code, which was great. I will use them if my HVAC ever goes out. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! read more

Red helped me with some HVAC assistance and maintenance, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. From start to finish, service was top-notch. - timely - good communication via text - easy payment system online The previous installation had incorrectly connected, and I wasn't able to install a smart thermostat properly. Red was able to help get that set up for me. Maintenace including replacing the AC disconnect and adding insulation for AC lines/wires read more

Stop looking and hire Red and his team. He is a total geek for his work and it shines through. During the estimate he took his time looking at everything and explaining his recommendations. He was up to date on what was required to pass city and state inspections, including building codes. He's upfront and honest about his pricing and I felt like I got a fair price for what I wanted (a high end system that will need minimum maintenance). His team were professional, friendly and on-time, kept me in the loop and did a decent job of repairing drywall and cleaning up the dust. The end result is a well-designed, whisper-quiet and efficient HVAC system that should run with little maintenance for the foreseeable future. Hire the Surf Bros and get the job done right the first time! read more

my heater stopped working for unclear reasons and I called Red at Surf Brothers and he came out within three hours and fixed it within two days when the part was available. I called so many places for repair on a commercial AC unit. The ones that were able to service commercial units couldn't schedule us until 3 days later. As soon as I called Surf Bros HVAC, I knew they'd get our business. Red was able to come out that same day, diagnose and work on the unit immediately. He's a very knowledgeable contractor and will give you detailed information on what the problems are. He's also easy to reach and quick to respond. Surf Bros HVAC did the best they could given the circumstances. Definitely recommend them to anyone needing HVAC systems or repair. read more

Hired Red and Alex when my mini split units started going out. Not only did they remedy the problem, but they improved my existing system for less than the repair would have been otherwise. After calling 5 HVAC services on a Saturday Red,at Surf Bro, offered same day service. He showed up precisely at the appointed time and did troubleshooting to determine why the system was inoperative. He found a blown fuse and that the unit voltage was set wrongly at 230 versus 208. Our a/c went out this past Sunday, 7/30/23. I called Surf Bros on Monday and Red got back to us shortly there after. I gave him the details and the next morning he and Manny showed up as scheduled. Both Red and Manny were personable, yet professional and curteous. I highly recommend Surf Bros and will not hesitate calling Red in the future for any A/C problems. read more

Surf Bros are a great 3 man HVAC company. They stand out from other companies. They are very knowledgeable, professional, communicative, and really nice guys. I was in the trades and have had lots of experience with the trades and speak from many years experience. I'm retired now. They knew what would work with what equipment where others hadn't a clue! This is critical because today's equipment is much more sophisticated and as such is imperative that installers are up to date with all the new technologies. They are also Mitsubishi Diamond certified. They kept the job site clean. They communicated regularly with me. They always arrived when they said they would. Explained patiently how everything works and how to program the smart thermostat and wireless connection. Surf Bros was highly recommended to me by a friend who is very particular in all the details of what he undertakes. I have to agree with him! Thank you Red, Jonny and Alex read more

I had given plenty of thought and research into upgrading our 1961 gas furnace into a modern heat pump system. I gave the owner of Surf Bros HVAC, Red, detailed specifications and he quickly returned a conforming bid of way way more than I could afford but he had been listening when I said we actually rarely use the heater and don't really need or like air conditioning, as we prefer to open up the house to our (relatively) nice San Diego weather and our yards. So he also figured out a more efficient system for less than half the price of what I asked for, with the added benefit of requiring less reconstruction. His experience and expertise were apparent as he walked me through the practical engineering options and how they would fit with the way we live and use our home. Done deal. He continued to exceed expectations, showing up as scheduled, working clean and considerately. When an acceptable part was mistakenly sent by a supplier, he insisted on getting what he ordered. I would never have know, but he has high standards. His team was respectful and efficient, even fun to have around. The job got done on time, on budget, with constant communication and adjustments (like my additional requests) carefully merged with the workflow. We don't even think about heating and cooling the house anymore. The new system is a clean, quiet, and very efficient, which considering how much work it was, is just what I wanted, after all. The project was a big success. Surf Bros gets our highest recommendation. read more

Long story short, I will definitely be a returning customer. Nathan (Red) was quick and thorough with communication to be able to give me an official estimate for an AC condenser replacement, even late on a Saturday night. He understood my situation of an upcoming heat wave with having an infant son and was able to expedite my work as an emergency even during a very busy part of the year. Two mornings later, the new condenser was installed professionally at a VERY competitive price. The entire process was kept transparent with me and I was able to learn from him throughout the whole install. And, to top that off, he will be doing a courtesy visit a week later to ensure everything is running in top shape. You don't want to be calling the big companies for HVAC work, you want to call these guys, trust me. read more

My A/C unit recently went out and I had to begin the arduous process of finding a reliable, honest, and affordable company to repair it. As most us know, finding a contractor is never easy. Thus, I was not looking forward to it. I began by calling one of the larger, more well-known companies here in San Diego that has excellent reviews and a good reputation. I had used them before at my previous residence and they did a great job so I figured they would be a good place to start. I was shocked when they quoted me for an entirely new system! I was convinced that it was a straightforward fix, but they were adamant in trying to avoid addressing the main issue and were only focused on trying to upsell me by using scare tactics. Enter Surf Bros HVAC! A family friend of mine recommended I call Red with Surf Bros and have him take a look. Thus, I did just that. He and his fellow technician came out, looked at my condenser unit, and deduced within minutes that it was simply a faulty starter cap. They replaced the part and, voilà! My A/C was up and running with no issues whatsoever! Better yet, it cost me thousands less than what the other company was quoting me. I cannot speak highly enough about Red and his company. Because of him I got an honest, reliable, and affordable fix with friendly service to boot! I will most certainly be using them again whenever my A/C needs fixing. So do yourself a favor: book them! Thank you, Red! You guys are awesome. read more

Surf Bros HVAC is by far the best HVAC contractor we've hired, and in general one of the best overall contracting experiences to date! I met Nathan (Red) about 4 years ago during a service call, late in the evening, to evaluate an issue with a heat pump (that he did not install) . It was late, water was dripping through the door frame, and it was summer. Red fixed the problem and talked me through the issue and what needed to be done to prevent it recurring in the future. I was very impressed with his professionalism, knowledge and cleanliness. He left his card just in case any further issues came up. My wife and I felt very comfortable and trusted him based on that interaction. Recently the time came to replace these heat pumps due to age and the first thought that came to mind was 'I really hope Red is still in the San Diego area and hasn't moved'. I sent Red a text to see if he was still in the business, still in town, and if so who he was working for. I didn't really care who the contractor was but specifically wanted Red to do the work since I was so impressed years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Red is now out on his own as Surf Bros HVAC! Red got back to me immediately, came out to the house, and followed up with several options included specs, pros/cons, his recommendation and associated quotes in great detail. I decided Surf Bros would be the contractor to use for this new installation. Red communicated well prior to, during, and even after the installation. He responded to email and text messages I sent promptly, which doesn't seem to be the standard these days and is something that is extremely important to us. He was on time and very respectful of our house and the neighbors. I was able to immediately determine that the quality of work Red and Alex performed vastly exceeded the prior installation. Red pointed out several deficiencies with the prior installation, in a professional and respectful manner, that likely caused the issue we had when I first met him. These were all rectified. Red installed isolation valves for the condensate line that are really awesome and will make maintaining and/or clearing them in the future so easy. Components such as the electrical disconnects and breakers, which I assumed would be reused were replaced with new. The carriers for the outdoor unit were replaced with high quality stainless steel ones which is so nice because the ones that were used for the previous were powder coated and rusted quite a bit. Painting them was difficult but no longer an issue. Things like that completely exceeded our expectations. We've had quite a bit of work done to our house over the past two years using various contractors and the process would have been much less stressful if they all presented as professional, detail oriented, and communicative as Red. We trust him and have referred him to our friends and family. Red is a very smart, great guy with a high degree of integrity. His business plan and onsite interactions clearly show he cares about those that work for him. Surf Bros exceeded our expectations and we're so pleased with our new heat pumps. There are quite a few HVAC contractors out there and we HIGHLY recommend you use Surf Bros HVAC. You will not be disappointed. read more
