Did a "Tuscan night" cooking class and the food was filling and delicious. Super fun making our own pasta dough! Only downside was we had very little hand down experience with knife skills. We didn't get to do much hands on experience in the cooking except for some of the pasta rolling which we appreciate but there were so many other aspects of the dish we wanted to be a part of. Great learning experience for our kids. They have been constantly asking, "What's next? What cooking classes can we sign up for?!"

My biggest take away would be to go with another couple/group you know so you are able to all work together and enjoy/enhance your experience. We went to our first cooking class here as a fun Valentine's Day activity. With the larger price tag we had high hopes since we love cooking together so much. However, for most of the class we stood there and had to listen to long rants from the head cook. We really just had the bad luck of the draw, from being next to others that steamrolled the entire cooking class and did all of the steps, all we really were able to get in was adding some salt and pepper. And since we weren't able to actually do any of the cooking we stood and listened to the long/random stories the chef had. Like I said I think we really had the bad luck of the draw with this situation, but with what you pay there should be things in place that you don't just stand there doing nothing 90% of the class. Looking forward to actually making the recipe at home because when we ate the food it was pretty good! read more

Went to a two hour knife skills class. Learned about many different cuts and tested them out on several fruits and veggies and made a pico de Gallo out of them all to take home. Instructor Jason was knowledgeable but his strange morbid gruffness was a pretty big weird turn off when he would just call people out throughout the class and brashly say "No." or that they were screwing up. If they had a chef who was more personable or made less commentary in a jerk tone (e.g. "every time you do that a kitten dies") it would have been great. read more

My daughter booked a date night dinner for her fiancé's birthday; per my recommendation as I have taken these classes years ago and thought they were terrific However, this was a stark contrast!!! Upon arriving to the Crocker Park location, my daughter and her fiancé were told to take a seat because they were celebrating his birthday they brought a very expensive bottle of wine, they were given aprons to put on an uncooked their wine and began drinking Several minutes into the "class" a large group of people entered, and the chef then proceeded to tell my daughter and her fiancé they need to leave that they were booked for a group that night My daughter never got an email canceling the class and zero notification prior This had been booked for weeks They corked the bottle of wine and were basically escorted to the sidewalk at 7 o'clock at night and 11° weather No one discussed a refund, no one offered any sort of apology or said let us get your phone number nothing They are now standing on the sidewalk with a bottle of wine and no dinner plans This establishment should be embarrassed Needless to say, my daughter was in tears because this was obviously a surprise for her fiancée and they were treated like garbage I called corporate the next day and was told after getting all the information emails and so forth that someone would be getting in contact with my daughter That has never happened I then called the store at Crocker Park the next day and spoke to the manager and he told me that the store district manager Jim Williams would be in touch Guess what that never happened either This place is a disgrace to the name Sur La Table and honestly, I would think twice and never ever book a cooking class with them again. They clearly don't have the customer service that they used to and since this posting no one has reached out to my daughter yes they have her email. Yes, we've made calls. Yes, they have her phone number. Jim Williams the district manager has not reached out to her to offer her any sort of recompense in addition when I spoke to corporate myself, they can pull up the email correspondence and confirmed that they did not send a cancellation to my daughter for her date night cooking class So she drove 25 minutes for nothing and was kicked out because they made more money booking a large group They don't care and nor should you book here read more

Super disappointed in our French cuisine cooking class. I booked for my son and I and we arrived to a group table for cooking. For $89 each would've expected that we would each get to cook. Not so. It was one table, one set of ingredients for us all to share to make one dish. When I say share, I mean like I chopped a cucumber while my son zested an orange and the lady at our table we didnt know seasoned our steak. I thought we would learn the technique and apply. Nope. The teacher showed us the technique and chopped most of the ingredients herself. We didn't even see a recipe to follow, she just kept grabbing the recipe and looking at it and telling us what to add. The first dish we made was a dessert. We walked in to a plate of blueberries and a dish that was already buttered and coated with sugar I think, not sure as they didn't say, and a blender of ingredients already in it. She had me dump the blueberries in the pan (some of which had mold and we had to pick out) then had the other lady push the blend button. My son then poured it over the blueberries. That was the extent of us cooking dessert. Not a cooking class at all. We then moved to the table and everything was premeasured so it was pretty much one person dump an ingredient and's then another dump an ingredient in. So disappointing. Then we were to season to taste but our tastes were different than the lady at our table so we couldn't even add what we wanted as we had to share the dish. We all were touching the ingredients so I wasn't a super fan of this. Especially the teacher who unwrapped and touched the steak and didn't wash her hands but then cut other things for our other dishes. After everything was cooked we each got a tasting of the dish...not super happy for $89 that we didn't get our own cooking experience and food. I just wanted others to know as we were very disappointed. I canceled another class I had booked. Super bummed for my son as he was hoping to truly cook. The teacher was knowledgeable and we learned some things but way overpriced to be called a cooking class. read more

Received a gift card for Christmas and I booked a class for my daughter and I to attend. The class at Crocker Park was cancelled. Did not receive my gift card back (email) like they said. Had to keep chasing them for my refund. In the meantime booked the same class at the Woodmere location for us to attend only to find out that customer service cancelled that on instead of giving me a refund on the original Crocker Park Class that THEY cancelled. Woodmere Store was very nice but Customer Service has not been very apologetic. They cancelled the class that I had to drive 40 minutes to get to. I told the customer service rep that I was trying to get the money back for the class that they cancelled at Crocker Park not cancel the class that I booked at Woodmere. Sent him the letter from Chef Nadia in Westlake hoe much more clear could it have been. I would be careful when booking a class here. read more

My bestie and I did the macaron class and while our macarons didn't turn out very well, we still had a good time. There was one instructor and one helper for a class of about 15. That seemed to be a good ratio for all the help we needed. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. We mixed up the meringue and piped our the cookies and the instructors took the trays and put them in the oven. Unfortunately our batch burned and cracked which the teachers said was because we overmixed - I don't think this is the case at all. They burned because the instructors didn't keep an eye on them, and they cracked because the tray wasn't dropped to knock out the air. The instructors then led us in making a buttercream and ganache which we used to pipe on and make sandwiches from the macarons. This part was difficult because of the cracks and the fact that they weren't flat. I was disappointed to spend $60 with the end result we got. We enjoyed ourselves until we saw the macarons come out of the oven. Having said all of that, we got 10% off merchandise in the store after the class, and 20% off our next class if we booked that day. In this case the journey was better than the destination but I'd like to try again with a different class. UPDATE I received a call from the store manager and when I explained about the result of our macarons, she apologized profusely and insisted on making it right by offering a spot in another class for me at no charge. I trained customer service classes for 6 years and THIS is how you gain a customer for life. I am very impressed by this level of service to ensure a positive customer experience. read more

My cooking class at Sur La Table was enjoyable and delicious! We went to an Italian food themed class and made pasta with two types of sauce and gelato. There were a lot of people in our class so we took turns making different parts of the sauce and gelato, but everyone helped make the pasta. There was plenty of food for everyone to eat and leave feeling full. After taking the class, I felt much more confident making homemade pasta. They provide you with instructions that you can make notes on in order to remember how you made your dish and the different tips the instructor shared. I highly recommend looking out for special deals on different classes. They also gave us a coupon after the class that we could use in the store on that day. Bring a hair tie and a bottle of wine! Went in for date night cooking class. The cooking instructor Brittney was informative and hands on she made sure to come around to each group to assist she also had a microphone on so everyone could here her instructions loud and clear. It was in pairs of 4. Our stations were set up for us with everything needed and aprons with name tags. We took the Italian Summer class it was great we had the best time cooking and trying the new meal and dessert we helped make. You can bring the drink of your choice or grab one from the Trader Joe's in Crocker. I would definitely come back for classes here again we received a 10% off coupon for anything in the store for taking the class also. They have a full list of upcoming cooking classes two months ahead so scheduling is easy for a busy lifestyle. Great class and instructor highly recommend great night out. read more

All I wanted this year for Christmas was to take a cooking class with my boyfriend. My wish was granted and my dad sent us on our way. I really wanted to learn to cook food that would be easy but that I am not comfortable/confident in cooking without instruction. We picked a seafood grilling class. We grilled potatoes, romaine lettuce, shrimp, scallops and salmon. I always get nervous with seafood because it only takes what seems to be seconds to cook. Nobody wants undercooked or overcooked seafood! I have to say that I would have liked to do a little more of making sauces independently. We were paired with another couple but as a class they have you make the sauces so you are not doing a separate sauce for each grouping. Some of the class you just watch someone add ingredients to a food chopper or blender. We did get to grill most of the stuff on our own (excluding the scallops that went on a salt block). Our instructor made our class fun and she was very helpful. I feel much more confident grilling/cooking seafood now that I know what to look for in coloring. We got a decent amount of food and I was full by the end of the class. You also receive a booklet with all the recipes so you can go home and make everything yourself. Note: It's not listed on their website but you can bring your wine to the class. They supply you with glasses and a corkscrew. read more

Wow has this changed since Covid. Classes are two to 2 1/2 hours long. And, you eat at the end. You now have do stools so you cook and eat standing.....not good. I asked for the recipe pack but they say they're going to send it. They need to have it for the class do we can make cooks notations. Twice now I've had to call and ask to have it emailed....bad. The instructor was good and the class offerings are nice. But, be cause I didn't get printout or emailed recipes it was a waste of time. I'll never make these recipes. read more

I have been to many cooking classes in different locations in the Cleveland area. I decided to try this one with my grandson who enjoys cooking. It was how to cook a steak with asparagus and cream brûlée . I have to say this was the worst class I have attended. I am sorry I chose this for my grandson to experience for his first cooking class. We were told to go shop while they finished our food and when we were told to be back in the room the food was cold. There were no seats to fit the counters height for eating the cold food. No recipe to take home. We were told to print our own at home, they would send us an email. read more

My review is mostly based on my customer service experience on 4 occasions. There is a particular employee there who is not very friendly with anyone unless you are buying big ticket items. Whenever I go there and I'm buying a few cooking utensils, she doesn't pay much attention and is not very helpful, or helps but looks like you are wasting her time. But when I bought an expensive item, she was very cordial. I noticed similar interactions with other customers. Most recently I called looking for a particular item with various sizes. Whoever answered the phone (maybe aforementioned employee?) said that she couldn't find out if they had it in stock because she would have to go online to find the SKU and see if they had it. Umm what? I didn't even ask her to go look in the back. She told me to just come in and take a look. The whole point of my call was so that I don't have to drive 30 minutes if these items were not in stock. I called a competitor establishment and the staff member looked it up and told me the sizes and colors they had in stock. My wife and I decided to go outside the box for us and try a cooking class here for our anniversary. It was a big hit. We did the knife skills and tasty Thai class with chef Jennifer. The cost was $80 per person and well worth every penny. The amount of knowledge we gained in chopping and food prep was worth it all by itself. Not to mention we got to make summer rolls, a lemongrass marinated chicken stir fry, and a sticky rice dessert. We also received discounts on items in the store. One more thing...it's ok to bring a bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal. We had an amazing time and will definitely take some more classes. It really is a great date night. read more

My husband I were given a gift certificate for their gluten free cooking class as a wedding gift. The class was on 1/11/17, Chef Kendra led the class. We LOVED the menu, the food, the hands on culinary education that we received. We also had been given a gift card to Sur La Table as a wedding gift as well, and had no trouble spending every penny and then some. We finally have an AMAZING 8" Chefs Knife and it has made all the difference in our kitchen! We were still there after the stores closing hour, and they didn't rush us out.
