This review would be Restaurants and Supper Clubs but I could not find a grouping for it. Help Yelp?
We were greeted warmly at the door by our 'cook' for the night and we were introduced to 4 other diners. Quick count of the chairs at the table 13 - and we were offered a glass of Prosecco - good start. The menu was on the table but we were aware what we would be having beforehand. There was also a written multiple choice quiz to be done about 5 questions for each course.
It was a very welcoming atmosphere and we were able to see into the kitchen and see what was going on.
Our Starter was Hummus, Supper club tomato salad with supper club tomato and olive bread. The bread was home made but made in a bread maker which personally I am not a fan of as I think it makes the bread too spongy. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it though.
Picky bit: Between courses we were handed clean cutlery but handed by the 'wrong end'. So I was wondering if it would look awful to polish them on my napkin before using. For all I know in a restaurant the waiters could be using a bit of 'spit' to polish up the cutlery so it is only a small picky bit.
Main Course: Boeuf Bourguinon, Yorkshire pudding, baked potatoes and carrots with lemon-parsley butter. Being picky the boeuf could have had more wine flavour, the Yorkshire pudding could have been lighter and I could not see the parsley on the carrots. The menu change was baked potatoes instead of mashed.
Dessert: Chocolate mousse, Orange salad, Lemon raspberry cupcakes and Chocolate cupcakes. Because I knew I would be writing a review for Yelp of course I had to sample everything! The mousse was served in a glass with the offer of cream and it was very nice. Ok now the picky bit. I have had better mousse. The orange salad was a little on the sweet side and could have done with a little liqueur for an added zing.
We were offered tea, coffee or camomile tea.
There was plenty of food and we were offered more of everything as we went along. We were offered more Prosecco and at the end of the evening there was even a glass of Whisky on offer. I declined as I was driving. The cost for the evening was €25 and you bring your own drink.
I hated the quiz as I was rubbish at it but the winner was given a bottle of Prosecco.
It was a great evening and I loved the company and the conversation. It was not restaurant quality food but it was very good Supper Club food and I enjoyed the experience. I was enjoying myself so much I forgot to check the 'toilet' arrangements but I went outside for a cigarette and was shown to the back garden were there was a table, chairs and an ashtray so I was happy.
PS I feel guilty adding the 'picky' bits but I was told to be honest and it is true if I had this menu in a friends house I would have been delighted and not quibbled about any thing.
Our hosts were friendly and welcoming and I would recommend their Supper Club to anyone. I would go again provided the menu was different as I noticed that the February night was more or less the same as the March night. I did ask and it was only the second one that had been run, there were 21 people at the first event.
There was plenty of parking outside the venue. I drove so I have no idea about public transport. Email for bookings is SupperClubDublin@gmail.com.
PS Doing a review of the Supper Club was a bit like doing a review of a friend's dinner party! read more
