It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

And I'm pretty sure illigal. There was something else about refusing a service.. which should have never been booked and i was asked up front if it should be moved to another stylist. I had JUST recieved a performance review three days prior that was nothing but glowing praise. From my attendance and work around the shop, to the revenue and tips i was bringing in with my work. That same day there were some very choice, quite racist talk from the front desk. He chose to speak about Indian women, claiming that they smell bad, are finicky, and then mocked the accent. And then shockingly referred to them as "curry queens" in a very derogatory manner Not coincidentally, two days later she decided to fire my partner who had been a loyal employee for 6 years... claiming he had missed too much work... when he had been legitimately sick twice. He was fired through a text message and asked to collect his things. The stylists are fantastic, but over worked and grossly underpaid.

Place is small, but clean and nicely decorated. The cup I got for my drink wasn't spotless, but I'm here to get my hair done not judge the coffee. First, the color. I went in for a full highlight and showed pictures of what I wanted. What I got, well its just wrong. It's a nice shade, but not at all what I wanted. I'm also not too pleased because the stylists did not check on the color ONCE while processing. She didn't even look when I was getting the rinse and the toner. My hair is very blocky and obviously highlights. It made my cry when I got in my caShe had another client at the time, but it most certainly was not busy enough for me to be completely disregarded during what I feel like is an important quality check. Second, the haircut. It's not straight. I KNEW when she was cutting it wasn't gonna be straight. And it's not. Usually the stylist will fix you shoulders, ask you to uncross your legs, realign your head to make sure it's a clean cut. This stylists didn't do it once. Once again, the stylist just disappeared and had her assistant finish the blow dry. The assistant was super nice and did a good job, it's more like if I'm paying $320+ for a color and cut, I expect the person who possesses the skill level for that compensation should have had a much more active role in the process. Finally, there are certain things I give salons bonus points for, and this salon did not meet any of those small details. No place to hang your purse, no changing room for the robe, etc. I will say the people are very nice and the chairs are super comfy, but neither of those things are enough to warrant another visit
