Y Worry Farm is definitely the second group. We went on a beautiful October day with our 3-year-old, and it was less than 30 minutes from downtown DC. We loved it: beautiful pumpkin patch, lots of folks but didn't feel crowded, a fun corn maze, and a real "farm stand" feel to it. Definitely recommended for folks with little kids who don't want the craziness of some other spots. No admission fee (for some other places this can be $25 per person!), so you don't feel like you need to stay for hours and hours, and everything was reasonably priced. Great family fun.

When I'm serious about doing some farmers' market shopping I visit the Anne Arundel County Farmers' Market off of Riva Road. This market is open year round on Sundays and in the summer they add Saturdays. The covered pavilion hosts a variety of vendors. Beyond farmers selling fruits and veggies there are vendors selling seafood, cheese, baked goods, coffee, jewelry, pickled veggies, jams, and illustrated note cards among other local items. The parking lot can be busy, especially in the summer months, but spots turn over quickly.

This was our one and only time (so far) purchasing anything from here so my review is limited to this one experience. Expect sticker shock if you're getting a tree (but I think that's true anywhere). The tree we got was absolutely beautiful and perfectly shaped. We didn't even have to trim it when we got it home! The staff was very friendly, prepped the tree for us and tied it to our car. Example: plants, clothing, hummus, drink mix in, crafts, candles, usually a hot dog or food truck but that's hit or miss lately. Vendors themselves - I come here to get my daughters cupcakes or cookie whatever she picked out that day. Bows, snacks, soaps, candles, and sustainable items. Generally I always walk away with something. Usually 20 vendors or more and the list of vendors is posted on FB so I follow their page to check on when my favorites are there. Parking- is easy even with a full lot, its on their property with almost no need for walking. Very close. Accessibility- okay for stroller that have bigger tires, maybe less for umbrella strollers. It's all grass so wheelchairs may be hit or miss depending on arm strength. Bathrooms - Portapottys are available. Only negative is as a bunny mom I didn't love they had bunnies out on display for the kids and didn't have a cooling bottle (frozen bottle of ice) to keep the bunnies cool. This is not uncommon especially for a farm. I gave them a cold bottle I had. Afterwards I never saw the bunny out since I'd been back so perhaps they took heed? Either way this is a great market and a consistent family outing. Highly recommend to anyone.

But in order to find the treasure, you need to walk into the covered area, where they store the local produce. My only complaint is the pricing. A bit steep, but if you want to support the local farms and enjoy some of the freshest tasting fruit and vegetables than ignore the register as it rings up your purchase. The corn is not displayed but you just have to ask and they will immediately bring you some ears. This stuff is what summers are made of - incredibly sweet and crisp kernels - the perfect pairing for your BBQ chicken or ribs. The local strawberries are intensely aromatic with a deep, rich, red hue throughout. You don't. even need a dusting of sugar for these jewels. It really puts those California behemoths you encounter in your local grocery chains to shame -all big and buff with not even an essence of berry flavor. Riva gardens also carries a variety of tomatoes, including heirlooms. Other finds include melons, cukes, peaches, potatoes, spring onions, etc., etc. They carry a huge line of jams and sauces, and even offer locally made cheese. The mozzarella and pepper jack are flavorful and reasonably priced. As if the proprietor Donna doesn't have enough on her hands, the last time I was there, she had cake samples next to the register. I tried the orange cream, and was blown away. Slices were available for purchase, but my hands were full. Next time I said. Well the weight gods must have been watching out over me, as when I came in again to get a slice, they were all sold out. Boo for the taste buds, yeah for the waistline. No matter, I will be back.

Nonetheless, this was a nice (albeit small) collection of local vendors selling some great looking/tasting produce, meat, baked goods, honey and SALT (I'm a sucker for salts). Many of the vendors were the same as those you'll see at the Anne Arundel County Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings. On the downside, this market is in the parking lot of the Annapolis Mall which is the most depressing of settings (in my opinion, of course) -- local vendors selling local produce amongst the most commercial of chains, like Applebee's and Panda Express, places that use commercial, flavorless produce in their food. The juxtaposition is not lost on me. I'm not trying to be snobbish, it's just that I feel a lot more "at home" when some grass is visible during my veggie buying spree. Nonetheless, I highly recommend stopping in and picking up some salt samples and produce. Nothing is better than a fresh, homegrown tomato or sweet ear of white corn as a vessel on which to try your newly acquired salts. Once you try it you'll thank me!
