My girlfriend paid for some peppers, and then, while picking them out, the young ladies working there started talking shit about customers! Right in front of a customer! They talked about how they don't like coming to Towson because everybody "feels entitled to local food" and how "DC is better because they are super nice to you for bringing them locally grown food". They then went on to refer to people in Towson as "ugly, rude, and mean". Who does that!?

I was really surprised seeing that they charged almost 2,5 times more than the price tag on the display showed for one of the produce item. When I pointed it out to the cashier, the reply was "the price on the display is wrong" - no apology or other explanations or offering me to still charge me accordingly to what the tag said. They just called someone to change the tag. When I asked about the manager or someone in charge, they said that no one there is available. Instead of appreciating customers and trying to be nice, they just simply don't care.

This part of York Road is actually in a 'food desert', meaning that it is hard for the people who live in the area to have access to fresh produce and other healthy options. The Govanstowne Market manages to shrink that desert each Wednesday June-September with a range of fresh produce, meats, baked goods, desserts as well as craft and educational vendors. The market accepts cash or credit as well as payments such as EBT, WIC, SNAP, SFMNP, etc. In my Junior and Senior year summers at Loyola (the market is in a parking lot on Loyola's campus) I would frequent the market to get my fresh produce, try out other goodies and relax with members of the community. Even now, though it is difficult for me to get there on time as I no longer live in the city, I still try to go back a few times per year to support it. What's better than a local non-profit which helps local people support their local farms & small businesses???

There was a fruit stand that primarily had a large variety of apples many that I had never heard of. I took a leap and tried a couple of varieties that were absolutely delicious. I bought some for eating and some for apple pie and cobbler. They also have pears , purple cauliflower, and some other produce. I noticed they have fresh apple cider in 1/2 gallons and quarts. Although this trip was primarily for apples, I couldn't resist the purple cauliflower and some delicious pears. I of course had to walk through and see what other tasty treats and wears they had. If you like Empanadas you must go to the rear of the market and try the large variety of mouth watering empanadas that cater to the meat lover and the vegetarian. Though not on this trip, I've enjoyed the Shrimp Old Bay and Spinach & Cheese. You can also buy them to freeze and have them for later. Another must stop and taste is Cane Mixers. These delicious mixers come in a variety of seasonal exotic flavors like Passion Fruit Jalapeño, and Guava Tiki Punch. Great in your favorite beverage or poured over ice . I didn't buy any this time, but I love mushrooms and they had some of the most beautiful fresh mushrooms I've seen in this area. The price point is also reasonable. They're definitely on my list for next Sunday! I believe new this season is the waffle stand.
