Hydroponics is a type of horticulture that grows plants/produce without soil by using mineral nutrients. Here they grow high quality produce in a temperature-controlled setting. I observed six/seven different types of lettuce some of which were Romaine, Crunch, and Bibb. We went to a Farm to Table affair, a six course dinner sponsored by the farm using a local restaurant for preparation at $100 a plate. Some of the freshest food on the planet. An enjoyable evening with over 75 in attendance and entertainment. This farm is also an important supplier of hay to local farms. Check out the store during business hours. They sell many types of fresh food, using the honor system, since there is no cashier present. The staff will be very happy if you want a tour of the hydroponics area of the farm. Please make an appointment in advance. They have a saying at the farm: " where every day is fresh ".

A typical week includes two types of fruit, some sort of leafy green (salad greens in spring, kale and such later on), some sort of potatoes, an additional veggie (like peppers, onions, and/or eggplant), a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs. They're usually open every Saturday with extra foods and meats for sale. Lastly, even though this is a family operation, they are always quick to credit their "workshares" - members who work picking and/or packing produce in exchange for reduced rates on their CSA. They have locally grown produce and fresh locally sourced meat, (including other local farms for chicken, eggs, and dairy) which so far have all been GREAT! We've purchased a beef quarter (see Wagner's Review) and the meat is just fantastic, though availability can be spotty for prime cuts in the "store". All of their seasonal produce that I've purchased (corn, onions, garlic, peaches, melons, cucumbers, tomatoes) have all been delicious. They aren't always the most organized on meat and the prices are a little higher on everything but you're actually getting local farm produce. (I've noticed a lot of places supplement with commercial foods for convenience and that seems duplicitous when they don't identify which is which!) Everything from here has been good, zero disappointment's.

After talking with the two guys behind the counter, they put together a great spread(with paper included). Overall I had crab, shrimp, corn, and a coke with some other goodies here and there. Crab was fresh and powdered with seasoning, shrimp was steamed amd had a sweet flavor, and the corn was corn although that may be hard to mess up anywhere. I will admit I was new to blue crabs and had one of the guys behind the counter teach me how to eat them, which thankfully they had the hammers and claws to actually eat them. Overall a great experience and will be going again! Just be sure to get an orange slushee for the road!
