The staff was wonderfully inviting and accommodating when I ran to get a form of payment I didn't have on me at the time. The "Everest" drink was just the right blend of Nutella sweetness, icy milk texture, and refreshing coffee hint. The pastries and caffe was fantastic! Apparently everyone else knew this on a Saturday too. The line was around the corner. Probably a half hour wait just to get inside. The notable pastries were the morning bun, bread pudding, and baguette. Perfectly baked and soooo good. We wanted to go back for more morning bun but didn't want to wait in the line. I did not like that they didn't have nonfat milk, but they had many other milk options. This is a great stop on a small town trip. read more

What a lovely place! On a corner in downtown Chestertown, this cozy bread shop is waiting to serve you up some delicious treats! My love and I stopped in after wandering through the farmers' market. I ordered a matcha latte which was delicious. I also tried a croissant and a pan au chocolat. Both were so yummy!! There isn't a lot of seating inside so we sat at one of their outdoor tables. We were lucky to snag a seat because it was poppin' at the store - definitely a very popular spot in town! The staff are very friendly beautiful people. It's a lovely place! read more

There are two amazing bakeries in Chestertown, Evergrain is one of them. It's awesome that they have some overlap, but not much. This is the go to place for muffins, scones, and a variety of pastries. We had the apricot and maple syrup scones, the pumpkin and blueberry muffins. Each was moist, flavorful and not to sweet. I think that's something that Evergrain is really good at-providing excellent baked goods that are savory with a hint of sweetness. The coffee is also excellent. I had mine black-there was no bitterness or sweetness. My wife also enjoyed her latte. Evergrain has a wonderful variety of breads, from very hearty to lighter. I tried several of them, absolutely fantastic. If I have one minor complaint, it's that they make their sandwiches in the morning and keep them in the fridge. I prefer a freshly made sandwich. The staff are excellent. There are times when the line is long 'cause this place is just very popular. But they're working hard to help each customer be satisfied. There are just a couple of tables to sit inside, but a bunch outside. In early September sitting outside was the ticket. Popped in here around noon on a Sunday and they were sold out of so many things. They were also super busy with a line out the door. After I tried my sunbun and pain au chocolate, I immediately figured out why. Their products are DELICIOUS. The sunbun was flaky, buttery, and sweet and the pain au chocolate was flaky and buttery- and the chocolate in the middle was a deep chocolate that complemented the pastry so well. I also got a Spanish latte (they had so many latte options it was hard to choose!) and I loved it. I definitely want to come back, and earlier next time so there's more options. read more

Great little bakery and coffee shop. The regular latte with almond milk and matcha latte with almond milk were both great. The egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel was good but it was a bit too much bagel and the egg was not the tastiest. Evergrain has a booth at the Crofton Farmer's Market that I frequent from time to time. My mom loves their bagels and cookies. My sister and I took her to Chestertown for her birthday to see the town and visit their store. The staff was nice. There is plenty of seating outside. There are a few tables inside, but it can be a bit of a tight squeeze if the place is crowded. They have cupcakes, tarts, mini cakes, brownies, croissants, scones, muffins, and more. Other than bakery items, they offer a variety of sandwiches, and fresh breads and baguettes that change daily. You can also grab a latte, tea, and hot and iced coffee. If you have your heart set on something specific, come early! We visited a little before 12pm and quite a few of their items were gone. We left with a tea, scone, croissants, and a few bagels. The store is in a historic, quaint town with many shops around to peruse. Grab yourself a croissant and a coffee, sit outside, and people watch! read more

Got to try their cinnamon sugar sun bun and a plain baguette today when I stopped by the Havre de Grace Farmer's Market. While I can't speak to the inside of their storefront, their baked goods are delicious! Everything is fresh, fairly priced, and large portion. Their staff is very friendly and let me ask lots of questions about what each item they had was and they didn't make me feel dumb for asking! Everyone seems super happy to be at the farmer's market, even in the rain. With COVID everyone was wearing a mask and they grabbed your item with tongs and placed it into a recyclable bag for you. The booth at the Farmer's market is cash or check only. I will be stopping at their booth every Saturday and will have to make the trip to their physical store soon! read more

When in Chestertown, we always stop by Evergrain. We found this bakery about 6 years ago and find it the high point of any visit to C-town. We love the lavender lattes and typically match it up with one of their excellent bakery items. Sometimes we grab a loaf of bread to bring home. This review is for their coffee not baked goods. The espresso was the worst I've ever had, it was under-extracted and sooo sour. Tried forcing myself to drink it but after 2 horrible sips, I ended up throwing it away. Was so desperate afterwards for caffeine that I went to Dunkin Donuts and they pulled a decent drinkable espresso... pretty sad when DD can pull a better espresso. SMH read more

Its hot and humid out today and I stopped at my favorite coffee shop for an iced coffee and 2 sun buns . 1 star removal for Allley not offering me a receipt ! Don't ever assume someone doesn't want a receipt . ..I had to call the bank to see what I paid ... yeah I'm old school ... and nobody likes to feel rushed ...what keeps me coming back are the sun buns not the attitude. I love the old European pastry baked taste of the sun buns! I supported the Easton Evergrain Bread when it was there and I support Chestertown. There was only one other person in Ever-grain Bread so unsure what the rush is about ! I can always get coffee a few doors down .. just don't rush me ... perhaps the customer would purchase more if there wasn't the "rush rush get done with me" ... just a thought (I wanted a baguette, and kalamata olive bread). Drove two hours to get here cause I've gotten their bagels at my farmers market and loved them. I tried their ice latte , chocolate croissant , pumpkin muffin , blueberry muffin , chocolate chip cookie, buzz bar, bagels and the cinnamon thing. I like the bagels , buzz bar and pumpkin muffin . I dislike their blueberry muffin , chocolate chip cookie and iced latte. The blueberry muffin did not taste like blueberries and it was very hard. The cookie was very hard and didn't not taste very good. The iced latte was just way too milky. I love the everything bagel the most. I have to be quite honest about this place. The owner is racist or has racist tendencies. I tried to give it another shot after years of not supporting them the 1st time I go back I had awful experience again. I took a relative this time and I raved about how good their bread was. As soon as we walked around non they ran out of the 3 dofferent breads I buy. The 2nd thing is the owner has to be racist there's no other way around it when ever I have gone into this placr I've never been greeted nor acknowlegement that we are there. The reason this is being confirmed is because the person behind me who was Caucasian was greeted by the owner who was sitting at the table when you 1st walk in with a smile. Even if you did not know us as patriots to your business you should have at least acknowledged our present by a hello and thank you for your business. For this reason and many other reasons I have to completely boycott this place. Maybe you might not care about one person not going but the more people who hear about your racist tendencies may not return as well. read more

Amazing drinks and fresh baked pastries. Great for stopping by before work as they are the earliest place open in Chestertown for a good espresso! My one complaint (only reason for 4 stars not 5) is that they advertise fresh baked bread every morning by 9:00 but it's often not out until about 10:00am, not a huge problem and truly they have the best bread in Chestertown but it has felt like false advertising when I've waited until after 9:00am to go specifically for a fresh baguette and they don't have them as advertised, totally wouldn't mind if they just updated their board to say fresh bread by 10AM instead! Definitely a must stop in Chestertown though for any of their baked goods, can't get better than their fudge brownie and a fresh baguette! read more

Think Sienfelds' Soup Nazi! These people take great pleasure in "ordering" their customer's to "Put the mask on before you touch the door and keep it on at all times". Also they have a policy for only five customers in the shop at a time. Sounds reasonable you think? Here is how that played out: It's raining cats and dogs yesterday morning. I let my family of at the curb while I find some place to park the car. (There are four of us). I park the car, jump out with my mask in hand and run over to the shop. I am putting the mask on while entering the shop. That was my mistake. The second I open the door, all four shop employees chant, "Sir, you must put you mask on before entering the shop. It's a state order. If you don't we will not serve you.". In your mind, make that sound as insulting and hate-filled as you can and you will be close to how it felt. I went back out in the pouring rain and put the mask on before reentering. When I came back in, the exact same chant rang out again. I told them I heard them the first time and one guy said "Okay, you can come in now" in as disappointed a tone as you can imagine. We order food, coffee and tea. While we are standing there waiting for our order, an older couple walk in the door. A new chant rings out, "We have a strict policy, no more than five customers in the shop at a time." The couple pleaded for mercy, as it was still pouring rain. In return, they got a sarcastic "Sorry!". The gentleman stepped back out in the rain to allow his wife to stay inside and wait. After a minute or so, she got angry enough to leave with her husband. Exactly what I should have done, but I was too slow on the uptake. Enough? Oh no, there is more. While waiting for my wife's tea, my daughter pulled down here mask for a moment to sip her coffee. We have a new chant: "You must keep your mask on at all times or you have to leave". She tried to politely point out that she was only taking a sip of her coffee. The manager pointed out that it was their strict policy that they will only sell food for take-out and customers are not allowed to consume any of they're food or drinks in the shop so that there is no need for them to lower their masks. As we were leaving, I admonished my adult son for telling them: "You know what? You guys should go ... yourselves." I have always discouraged that type of behavior. On this occasion, I wish I had said it. In response, he got a sarcastic "Wow!" that seemed pretty practiced as well. It's very unfortunate, because the pastries were awesome.
