I ordered the latter, plus a scoop of black cherry. You might be skeptical of combining mint and cherry, but it actually works really well (as I've learned from getting the occasional cherry on top of mint milkshakes). The cherry had whole cherry pieces, and the price for two scoops was low, so I was satisfied. The mint was nothing special. They do have some flavored ice for someone wanting non-dairy refreshments. Presently, the bench next to this place is taped over, but it's not far to the bayside anyway and there's a small beach, so I say drive over while that ice cream's still cold.

When I mentioned that my hubby, Ken, would be celebrating his birthday next week, they surprised us with a personalized menu that said "Happy Birthday, Ken!" What a thoughtful and unexpected touch! It may seem like a small gesture, but it meant so much and made our evening even more special. Our server, Angela, was absolutely wonderful. She was so personable, attentive, and professional, and made us feel like we were dining with friends rather than simply being customers. And the food... absolutely incredible! My hubby and I had the crab cakes, while my brother-in-law enjoyed the surf and turf. Every single dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. Everything about our evening was perfection! It's not often that a restaurant leaves such a lasting impression, but The Kitchen at the Imperial truly did. Our only regret is that we live in New Jersey and were only visiting for the weekend. Knowing it will be awhile before we can return is the hardest part--but we are already looking forward to the next time! Let's start with the fact that the restaurant is beautiful, so nicely appointed and warm. We were greeted by Donald our server who could not have been more cordial. He was exceptionally nice and knowledgeable of the menu. He had been working there for over 4 years. Then the food--also wonderful. We had rockfish and the short ribs after the butternut squash soup special--all were great. I gave the restaurant a 5 even though we did have a service issue. Something had gone wrong and our entrée order did not get placed. This postponed our next course. We recognized this as did Donald. He could not have been more apologetic and they worked to get the dishes prepared. So often an error like this is made and the server and management just move on. In this case they felt sincerely bad about it happening and ultimately took the price of a very nice bottle of wine we had ordered off the bill. Exceptional guest relations and insurance to see that we returned. And we will!!
