Been here once before with a friend who. Ribs were great, moist easy to eat. I'm from out of town, was in town for the weekend with a friend. Ordered two slabs. The way they were packed, good fresh moist ribs were placed on top of dried out, burnt unable to chew or eat. Very disappointed. Called owner today and they are closed. read more

Nice, rustic space to eat barbecue. There's a fair number of booths to choose from, which I prefer for seating. The smoked pork ribs are tender; brisket is flavorful. Platters are a smart way to go. As for sides, I found the greens to be outstanding and the hush puppies yummy. Service takes time but the staff is friendly. Owner/chef William made the rounds to see how customers were doing--nice touch. The house barbecue sauce is a bit too strong for me, so I'd ask for it on the side next time to control it. My son had a lacrosse game at Washington College. I was looking for a nearby place for a late lunch. It smelled like heaven when we arrived. There are tables as well as takeout. We were greeted immediately and seated. The service was friendly (I'm sorry I didn't get the name of the friendly woman working there). At our group of 5, we had a couple of pulled pork sandwiches, orders of ribs, and chicken. They serve Coke products as well as beer. Everything was delicious! WOW OH WOW! Man!!! Okay let me calm myself down before I start this review. I am still riding off of the high of goodness from eating such delicious food! I walked in and was greeted by a very warm smile and "Hello, welcome sweetie!!!" I placed my order and then proceeded to take my seat at a booth. One thing that I would like to note is that you can sit anywhere that you'd like, so have your pick! The ambiance is very upbeat yet relaxed! It gives you the vibe of a southern BBQ restaurant. Sweet aromas of deliciousness in the air and all! I placed an order for the loaded BBQ chicken nachos, and also an order of 6pc sweet chili wings. In a few minutes my food came out, I first dug into the nachos and was absolutely amazed by the flavors that hit me! The bite of the crispy tortilla chips coupled with the spiciness of the jalapeños, and the sweetness of the BBQ sauce sent me straight into bliss! We arrived at about 11:30am on Saturday. I was a bit confused by the menu on the wall (what was included with the sandwiches/entrees?) so grabbed a paper menu from the counter. It was tattered and sticky. (They all were.) The woman behind the counter finally told us to have a seat. The table matched the menu. After a few minutes our server arrived and asked if we wanted coffee, which we found strange. We both said no, that sweet iced tea would be fine. The server seemed to be very puzzled by this but brought our drinks promptly. She asked what we wanted and my wife said the brisket. The server indicated she had to check on something...and never came back. We watched her, behind the counter. She never talked to anyone else, just worked putting silverware away. After about 10 minutes we gave up. I left some money on the table for the iced tea (which tasted okay, by the way...maybe a bit too sweet.) Nobody came after us to see if there was a problem. Came to visit Chestertown as surprised birthday celebration for one of my best friends. Coming from a larger city (Philadelphia) it was interesting to note that a lot of restaurants were either closed or limited operating hours on Sundays. Decided to try Phat Daddy's for the first time today and we ordered the Fish Sandwich Platter. The fish on its own was a white fish and was ok, had a lot of bones so couldn't really enjoy it without having to pick them from my mouth. The bottom bun was soggy because of the oil that they fried it in, loved the Aioli it was served with. It might have been soggy because we had ordered take out and were a few moments later to pick it up. Fries were soggy, freshen them up in the air fryer and they were good We Also ordered Potato Salad on the side and that was really really good!! It's more on the sweet side which I love but letting y'all know because some people don't like it sweet Potato Salad. But the topping on the cake was The Pork Egg Rolls. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious BUT they are NOT as how they are advertised on their website picture and that was a disappointment. The picture shows BBQ Pulled Pork in the egg rolls. Do these look like Pulled Pork egg rolls? No. They look like regular ground pork egg rolls like you get at the China House. (Which are also good BUT,) that's not the point. Side Note: They we're also handing out Arbys Tarter Sauce from their grab and go counter which I find strange. You'd think the eatery would make their own Tarter Sauce. We were looking for something new in Chestertown and Phat Daddy's did not disappoint! We got the fried fish and smoked chicken platters (both came with two sides so we got Mac n cheese, fries, yams, and cheese sticks). Everything was great. The meats were well seasoned and cooked to perfection -- the sides were all pretty standard but the yams were my favorite. Staff were friendly and attentive and we will ABSOLUTELY be back. Phat Daddy's still hits the mark! I travel for a living and try BBQ all over the country and Phat Daddy's is in my top 10.... and it's so close! Tried the ribs on a recent visit while the Mrs had her favorite smoked Turkey. My 1/2 rack was nicely smoked, well seasoned and was a good quality of meat. It wasn't fall-off-the-bone tender, but that's a trade for non fatty ribs. The half rack filled me up. The sauce is perfect for ribs. The Turkey has a wonderful smoke flavor and is moist and tender. OMG! I've been wanting to try this place for over a month. They are open WED-SUN and sometime run out of food. I hit today, Friday afternoon Thanksgiving and they were closed because they put on this big event for the town community on Thanksgiving Day. The girl at the front told me they were closed but as I was pleading my case about being turned away twice for different reasons. One was being sold out, I forget the other but I understand they are just getting up and running. Phat Daddy heard me in the back and came out and said he had some ribs available. As a self acclaimed BBQ enthusiast I was absolutely heartbroken when I found out Smoke Rattle and Roll kicked the bucket when I returned to campus following the pandemic. But what I wasn't expecting was a place that would blow me out of the water like Phat Daddys to appear half a year later. Stumbling on Phat Daddy's was something of a happy accident when my dad was looking for nearby BBQ when I was moving back in for classes but I knew as soon as it was fully open that it was everything I hoped and dreamed it would be. I have made an effort to make the pilgrimage once a week (much to the chagrin of my wallet) and every time I've been it has gotten better with every bite. The first time I came I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and GOOD GOD that was some quality pulled pork. It had a perfect amount of sauce, not an inch of it was dry or tasteless, it was simply perfect. I also ordered a side of Mac n' cheese which I wasn't super impressed by at first but I think I've warmed up to it - it's just not what I'm used to since other local BBQs tend to go creamier. That said I think the flavor on the Mac has really improved and Im excited to see where the chef takes it as time goes on. Speaking of things tay have improved as they've gone on, THE BRISKET. I had it the second or third time I came and it was aight. Like it was definitely above average but it didn't knock me off my boots. This has of course changed, I just got some today (pictures below) and that was damn near some of the best brisket I've had in my life. Perfectly marbled, just burnt enough on the sides to get that extra flavor, and the texture and moisture were literally perfect. Literal chefs kiss. Id been thinking of writing a review for a while but with them upping the brisket game that much? I had to leave a review. Other things that are excellent that I've tried are the ribs and the burnt ends. The burnt ends especially if you're a fellow college student and want something meaty for a cheaper price, they ain't a meal on their own but they're excellent either which way. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, I had never been to the cafe that was there before Phat Daddy's went in but even the outside feels a little more welcoming even if it is a little bit of a hole in the wall. They also sometimes have events around the restaurant, including live music on one or two occasions which attract a whole bunch of awesome people from the town and really create a sense of community. I also like that they put up some jerseys from WAC, it's nice having more than one or two restaurants that actually seem to have some pride in the college. I think to top it all off the owner is one of the nicest men you'll meet and an amazing example of the kind of people who inspired me to make the move to Chestertown for college in the first place. My only criticism is they should consider getting a soda fountain if possible. Sometimes they'll be running low on sodas and then there'll only be so many options. Also perhaps more sustainable packaging as a though? The last one is kinda nitpicky but food for thought for the future. Looking forward to returning many more times before I study abroad/graduate! read more

First time going to this place. We got the nachos, brisket, fish and chips and quesadilla's. The order was not complete. I did not get my beans as a side. I tried to call and give them feedback but they don't answer the phone. I hate to see a new business get a negative review, but it is what it is. Nachos were average. Brisket was tasty. It's deserving of good reviews. There's a lot of Barbacue places in this country whose existence isn't justified. This place is legit and better than their website would imply. The pulled pork quesadilla was excellent and survived a deliver even. The shells staid crispy and light despite how moist the meat was.....and the flavor.
