Nice, rustic space to eat barbecue. There's a fair number of booths to choose from, which I prefer for seating. The smoked pork ribs are tender; brisket is flavorful. Platters are a smart way to go. As for sides, I found the greens to be outstanding and the hush puppies yummy. Service takes time but the staff is friendly. Owner/chef William made the rounds to see how customers were doing--nice touch. The house barbecue sauce is a bit too strong for me, so I'd ask for it on the side next time to control it. It may be fine for others.

My son had a lacrosse game at Washington College. I was looking for a nearby place for a late lunch. It smelled like heaven when we arrived. There are tables as well as takeout. We were greeted immediately and seated. The service was friendly (I'm sorry I didn't get the name of the friendly woman working there). At our group of 5, we had a couple of pulled pork sandwiches, orders of ribs, and chicken. They serve Coke products as well as beer. Everything was delicious! Phat Daddy himself checked on us during our meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. There's a parking lot in front.

WOW OH WOW! Man!!! Okay let me calm myself down before I start this review. I am still riding off of the high of goodness from eating such delicious food! I walked in and was greeted by a very warm smile and "Hello, welcome sweetie!!!" I placed my order and then proceeded to take my seat at a booth. One thing that I would like to note is that you can sit anywhere that you'd like, so have your pick! The ambiance is very upbeat yet relaxed! It gives you the vibe of a southern BBQ restaurant. Sweet aromas of deliciousness in the air and all! I placed an order for the loaded BBQ chicken nachos, and also an order of 6pc sweet chili wings. In a few minutes my food came out, I first dug into the nachos and was absolutely amazed by the flavors that hit me! The bite of the crispy tortilla chips coupled with the spiciness of the jalapeños, and the sweetness of the BBQ sauce sent me straight into bliss! I then began my journey to tasting the wings, and they were nice and crispy with the perfect sauce ratio! The flavors were sweet and savory, with a nice touch of seasoning! My goodness! Everything really hit the spot! I am so glad that I stumbled upon this place, and I am always glad to support a local establishment and a Black owned business. Cheers to good eats! I will be back & I am spreading the word about you guys!

Came to visit Chestertown as surprised birthday celebration for one of my best friends. Coming from a larger city (Philadelphia) it was interesting to note that a lot of restaurants were either closed or limited operating hours on Sundays. Nonetheless Phat Daddy's was open and ready for business. As soon as arrived, I was greet by the staff and they helped me navigate the menu. I was definitely a little bummed because they were out of Fish the day I came in but as a pescatarian I found some alternative options. So here is a breakdown of sone items that myself and party ordered Pull pork sandwich Collard Greens Mac n Cheese Hush Puppies Spring Rolls (don't judge, please) The food was tasty, flavorful and you tell it made with love. I'd definitely recommend if you are in town.

Fried oysters with hush puppies and fries and pulled pork sandwich

First time here just checking out the town...saw Yelp reviews and stopped by. We had fried oysters with hush puppies and fries and pulled pork sandwich. I loved my fried oysters basket. It was so yummy! Loved the hush puppies and crispy hot fries as well! Hubby thought pulled pork was a little salty but probably alright for most other people. Great find. Definitely will be back!

Phat Daddy's Fish Sandwich with Aioli Sauce with Lettuce and Tomato.

Decided to try Phat Daddy's for the first time today and we ordered the Fish Sandwich Platter. The fish on its own was a white fish and was ok, had a lot of bones so couldn't really enjoy it without having to pick them from my mouth. The bottom bun was soggy because of the oil that they fried it in, loved the Aioli it was served with. It might have been soggy because we had ordered take out and were a few moments later to pick it up. Fries were soggy, freshen them up in the air fryer and they were good We Also ordered Potato Salad on the side and that was really really good!! It's more on the sweet side which I love but letting y'all know because some people don't like it sweet Potato Salad. But the topping on the cake was The Pork Egg Rolls. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious BUT they are NOT as how they are advertised on their website picture and that was a disappointment. The picture shows BBQ Pulled Pork in the egg rolls. Do these look like Pulled Pork egg rolls? No. They look like regular ground pork egg rolls like you get at the China House. (Which are also good BUT,) that's not the point. Side Note: They we're also handing out Arbys Tarter Sauce from their grab and go counter which I find strange. You'd think the eatery would make their own Tarter Sauce. Over all, every place has their bad moments for me, I'm looking forward to trying their BBQ one day.

Amazing BBQ. We had the Brisket which was well smoked and super good. They brought is out some Complimentary Rib Tips to try with our meal. For Sides we had the HushPuppies and Baked beans. The HushPuppies were some of the best I have ever had. Thank you and if you are in the Chestertown Area. Check this place out

Fried Fish Platter, Smoked BBQ Chicken Half Chicken, Sweet Potato (Yams), Phat Mac & Cheese, Rib Tips

We were looking for something new in Chestertown and Phat Daddy's did not disappoint! We got the fried fish and smoked chicken platters (both came with two sides so we got Mac n cheese, fries, yams, and cheese sticks). Everything was great. The meats were well seasoned and cooked to perfection -- the sides were all pretty standard but the yams were my favorite. Staff were friendly and attentive and we will ABSOLUTELY be back. (Bonus: the owner came out with a plate of rib tips for us to try and I will definitely be getting the ribs next time. They were super tender and the sauce was delicious.)

Not the best angle but this was the brisket sandwich and hush puppies. Worth every dollar.

I had a very uncomfortable experience at Fat Daddy's Barbecue today, and I feel obligated to share…read moreit so no one else gets hurt the way I did. While sitting on one of the wooden bench seats and placing my order with my husband, I suddenly felt something stab into the back of my left thigh. The pain was immediate and intense. When I reached back, I realized a piece of the bench had broken off and gone inside my skin. I was wearing a dress, so I jumped up in a panic trying to get it out. My husband couldn't see it at first because it was embedded inside my leg. After several attempts, we finally managed to pull it out -- and the piece of wood had blood on it. I now have a painful welt on my thigh, and as a diabetic, this kind of injury is especially concerning because of the risk of infection. I'm also concerned about what germs or bacteria were in that wood. I showed the piece of the bench to the waitress (it was her first day, and she clearly didn't know what to do), and I asked her to let the manager know because I didn't want anyone else to experience this. No one came to check on me. No one asked if I was okay. My husband eventually had to ask for our food to-go because I was so shaken and miserable I couldn't even stay to eat. When I went to the counter and asked for the manager myself, she came out and gave a very dismissive "I'm sorry about that, I'll check it out." I followed her to show her the bench, and her response was, "Yeah, I see. I'll just have them turn the bench to the other side." That was it. No concern, no incident report, no offer to help, no acknowledgment of how serious this was -- after we spent $88 on our meals. This experience completely ruined my day, left me injured, and left me extremely disappointed in the lack of care or responsibility shown by management. I truly hope they fix this issue before someone else gets hurt.

Usually it's later in the evening when they're already closed, or it's Monday-Wednesday when they're not open when we're heading back home. This time it was around 7:00, we were driving by, and I thought, "Let's stop in and grab some dinner and try something new." The first thing we noticed getting out of the car was the smell outside, which honestly wasn't very pleasant. Across the street there are several chicken barns, so I'm assuming that may have been part of it. When we walked in, we were greeted right away and told to sit wherever we liked. Inside is very nicely decorated. There's a counter with a few seats, several two- and four-top tables, and through a small hallway there are larger tables that I'm guessing become communal seating when it gets busy. Our server, Jaylin, came over quickly to take our drink order. He explained the beer options and mentioned they had homemade lemonade and sweet tea. My wife asked for unsweet tea but they only offer sweet tea, so she ended up getting water. I ordered the sweet tea and they definitely weren't kidding -- it's sweet! For dinner we ordered the three-meat plate with brisket and pit beef, along with collard greens and coleslaw. The food came out looking good, and I actually took a picture, but of course now I can't find it on my phone. The one disappointing thing was the brisket presentation. Instead of sliced brisket, it came out looking more like a pile of shredded beef. The meat itself was tender and flavorful, and some pieces had a nice bark on them. The pit beef was also tender and served warm, although I was expecting more traditional sliced beef. The collard greens were very good. I asked for some cider vinegar for them and was initially told they didn't have any. A few minutes later, a gentleman walked by and asked how everything was. I mentioned the vinegar situation and he immediately said they had gallons of it and brought some over, which I appreciated. The coleslaw just wasn't my style. I prefer shredded cabbage slaw, while theirs was chopped. It wasn't bad -- we still finished it -- just not my personal preference. I noticed another table got cornbread that looked really good, so I ordered a piece. Unfortunately, that was another small disappointment. It looked good on the outside, but once I cut into it, it was very dense and seemed to be mostly cornmeal without any actual corn in it. After taking a bite, it also seemed like it may have been microwaved because the inside had a rubbery texture. Overall, the meats were good and the sides were solid. One thing to note: make sure you read the ENTIRE menu carefully. There is a $5 upcharge for double meat. Yes, it's printed in red, but I completely overlooked it. Personally, I don't think the extra meat was worth the additional charge, and had I noticed it beforehand I probably would have ordered something different. It would have been nice if the server had casually mentioned the upcharge when ordering. Honestly, he probably would have gotten a better tip. They also offer homemade desserts, which I'll definitely try next time. Another table ordered the bread pudding and it looked amazing. One last thing: I understand we were there close to closing time, but while we were still eating, Jaylin started sweeping the rugs at the entrance inside the restaurant and rolling them up. That's probably something that should either be done outside or after the last customers leave. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and definitely look forward to stopping in again whenever we come through while they're open.

We sat in addition where it was rather loud due to 5 kids at one table with their parents, and another party of 12 in there. The acoustics aren't terrific. Didn't ruin the experience, but just know in case you are sensitive to noise. Ask to sit in other areas. Very friendly employees! From the moment you step in. Hostess was nice and our server was terrific (shout out to Riley). She kept checking in on us and made sure that we had all that we needed. We ordered a margarita and I wouldn't recommend this at all. It tasted like lemonade and a some tequila. They also put sugar on the rim. It was subpar to say the least. It was nothing as described on the menu (fresh squeezed lime juice). We ordered the fried pickles for an app and I highly recommend them. The sauce that is served with them is great! For entrees, we ordered the Bone & Butt (ribs w/pulled pork) with a side of baked beans and a burnt ends meal with sweet potato fries. The ribs and pulled pork were absolutely great! Even the burnt ends were good too. However, I do like super wet sauces and they do come drenched in BBQ sauce. That was a me problem as I should have asked and I forgot. I should have ordered them plain. The corn bread was okay. We asked for butter for that. The fries were fabulous. The baked beans equally as good. There are two different sauces on the table for you to put all over the things. You can tell that they are making these things in house and take great care to make sure that they are good quality. The portions are terrific and the prices super reasonable. They have an extensive dessert menu. We didn't order as couldn't fit anything else. We even had to take to go boxes. This is located near Great Wolf Lodge! If you are staying there, this is super close and worth the drive. It's also not far off of 95 so if you are in the area swing by - worth the drive off of 95 (not far at all). Would for sure come again! Very tasty.

Unfortunately for us, we ordered a platter to sample the smoked meats, and they were not a hit. Pulled pork stringy, without flavor and dry. Ribs, little meat and dry. Brisket, hard to swallow. The best item we ordered was the pit ham sandwich which was just what you'd expect with a ham sandwich. We also had a pulled pork Mac and cheese, and the super gooey cheese saved the dish. Our server was very nice, attentive and accommodating. She even threw in an extra piece of pie because she said the portions were small in her opinion. It did take us 10 minutes to be greeted, but they were busy. Maybe you'll have a better experience. The smell of smoke outside will give you hope! I probably won't be back.
