This spot is hands down one of the best BBQ joints I've been to in a long time. We ordered pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, ribs, macaroni salad, and potato salad. The ribs were my absolute favorite--delicious, tender, and flavorful without needing any sauce. I added sauce just for fun and fell in love with both the Carolina and Mild sauces (light and not too thick). The sweet sauce was okay, but the only item I couldn't eat was the potato salad. I liked the ribs so much that I went back 10 minutes later to grab an entire slab (I had only ordered three to start). The owner and the young lady at the register were friendly, and the restaurant was clean. While waiting for my food, I couldn't help but chuckle at the "thy shalt" and "thy shalt not" signs on the walls--definitely gave off a military or law enforcement vibe. This is officially my new go-to spot for ribs. The place is small with limited seating, but I'm perfectly happy eating in my car. It's worth the 90-minute drive for great BBQ. Came here for a late lunch based on other reviews and it was great! Small restaurant with 4 to 5 tables, clean. The owner and wife were very nice and helpful. I ordered the special, choice of sandwich, two sides, can of soda, and choice of whoopie pie. I ordered pulled pork, potato salad, baked beans, and a chocolate whoopie pie, tons of food for the price ($12). The sandwich was so big I took half the pork off to bring home. The meat was warm, tender, and good flavor. The potato salad and beans were very good, beans had a good tang of vinegar. The whoopie pie was ridiculously good (I'm glad I don't live too close!). I took half the pork home, along with about 3/4 of the beans. The potato salad was good and creamy and I ate it all! The best part of the meal was the whoopie pie which I feel shouldn't be true for a bbq place. I watched them microwave the ribs I ordered which was off putting from the get. The sides all needed seasoning (mac and cheese tasted like just rue with no cheese) and my partner's brisket sandwich was very dry even though they asked for sauce on it and added coleslaw. Took a detour off of Rte 1 north in search of BBQ while passing through Middletown, DE. Tucked away in a small shopping plaza is Young's BBQ... a hidden gem! I ordered the lunch special which included a sandwich w/ choice of meat, 2 sides, a soft drink, and dessert. Owner, Keith, suggested the pulled pork - moist, tender, and AMAZING!!!!. The potato salad and baked beans were delicious too. Generous portions. Keith's BBQ sauce is worthy of bottling and selling in a specialty butcher shop or grocers. My favorite is the "HOT." When I was looking at the menu I was worried that my eyes may have been bigger than my stomach but that didn't stop me from ordering the sweet Italian sausage, the pulled pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich. I told the cashier that if I had any room that I'd be back for a side of mac 'n cheese, to which she responded you're not going to have any room." She was right, but that didn't stop me from eating my entire order much to the surprise of Mr. Young (mind you, I'm 6'2, 165 lbs soaking wet). As you can see from some of my prior reviews I like great BBQ. Young's delivers greatness that is worth seeking out. The Owner has been smoking meat for over 25 years and his expertise shows in the quality. He's a nice guy, too. I've eaten in many the great pork BBQ joints throughout the Carolinas and Tennessee from Martins BBQ and Peg Leg Porker to Skylight BBQ and Hursey. Young's pulled pork blows them all away! It's moist, tender with perfect amount of smoke and a fantastic bark. While it doesn't need sauce, Young's three sauce are truly righteous. Their baby back ribs are tender with a perfect about of "bite." They are not overpowered by smoke. Excellent bark. At $21 a rack they are a steal! Coleslaw is stellar with a nice tang to it. Young's is the real deal. I'm born and raised in NC so my bar is set high for BBQ. Their pulled pork sandwich rivals any I've had in NC - soft bun, flavorful, moist pork pulled perfectly with the exact right cook on it. Their Carolina vinegar sauce is on the money and it is truly one of the only restaurant bbq sauces that I think actually gets it right. My dad came to visit from NC this week and has been cooking bbq for his entire 60 years so when he said it was the best bbq he's had in a few years you know it's high praise!! Disappointing. The pork BBQ had no spices or flavor. To obtain BBQ taste you needed to add sauce. The cole slaw was bland. The brisket sandwich did not look or taste like brisket. Me and my dad came here for the first time because we were in the area. I got the Everyday Special which includes your choice of sandwich, 2 sides, a drink (bottled drink adds .50c) and a choice of three different whoopie pies to top it off. I got the pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, a chocolate whoopie pie, and a bottle of Pure Leaf Sweet Tea (I'm from the south). My meal was fantastic and I am so full! My dad got the pulled pork sandwich, collard greens, baked beans, bottle water, and chocolate chip whoopie pie. He agrees that this place is pretty tasty. The food is Legit BBQ! The owner gets it, he knows people are either a NC, SC or Memphis fan and that they ARE NOT the same. He makes sure you get the sauce you want! He also has gone out of his way to help the community. He has always supported the Middletown High School theater program by making sure one night of rehearsal week the kids get a REAL meal without charging an arm and a leg - very reasonable prices- and we always have plenty. Did an amazing job providing me with catering for my daughters HS graduation back in 2016. We wanted to do the same for the college graduation, but alas COVID stopped us! If you like barbque, this is the best in DE. Maybe farther. It's not fancy, he makes traditional sides, mac and cheese, slaw etc. He has barbque chicken too. (It's not bad, but why wouldn't you get the best barbque? I mean, don't go to a burger place if you're looking for spaghetti right?) The Everyday Special Is a hell of a deal! The sandwiches are loaded with meat. Picture a softball on potato bread. The pulled pork and brisket were both amazing. Great brisket. But my fave are the collards. You must get the vinegar with them; it's not out-of-the-bottle vinegar, it's a special blend and very savory. Upon seeing so many positive Yelp reviews, some friends and I decided to meet here for lunch one day. We all had pulled pork sandwiches; I ordered potato salad with mine. The quality of the barbecued meat was tender and juicy; the bun for the sandwich was pretty average. The restaurant provides delectable, store-made sauces on the table for the meat. The potato salad was pretty typical, and I wouldn't be surprised if the owner simply purchased large batches from the local supermarket. The quality of the food wasn't quite enough to bring this restaurant above three stars, in my book, but the service definitely was. The man I assume was the owner brought our meal out on a tray and called each of us "sir." Later, when we were finished, he came by and offered to take the tray - and called us by name when doing so. I consider this service a pleasantly surprising personal touch that one might never see in a chain restaurant; this alone makes the restaurant worth visiting and revisiting. There is limited seating available in the restaurant, so you may want to consider getting take-out.
