This is definitely a hole in the wall that you don't want to drive passed. This is near a bunch of other good restaurants in Costa Mesa. We went towards 7-8 PM, which was a little past the dinner crowd. They cook the chicken fresh, which takes about 20-25 minutes to cook but luckily we were able to walk to Hennessy's for a quick drink. It was just enough time to return back for the food, and the food was so rash and just a great treat to have the end of a busy day. The chicken was freshly cooked w lots of love and flame broiled. That was anticipated to be the star dish, and definitely met my expectations. I also appreciate that the flautas were fried but not super oily, and the sauces came on the side so it was not soggy. I grew up in Costa Mesa, I must have put 5,000 miles on my bike as a kid going all over the place to eat and enjoy the surrounding area. 17th street IS a food wonderland. From Catalina Fish Kitchen to La Cave with a little Pan Asia and EZ take out in the middle. The new places are great too, but when you are coming home from the dog beach and you want to keep it clean, a fish burrito or chicken burrito from Super Pollo is not going to disappoint. My wife had chicken and I had fish, the fish burrito is pretty nice with avocado and cabbage- really done right! As the name suggests, if you're looking for some super chicken you've come to the right place. It doesn't look like much from the outside but as they say don't judge a restaurant by its cover. They serve delicious hole-in-the-wall Mexican food and they've been doing it since 1984. The chicken is flame broiled as you can see when you look into the kitchen. You can get it as is or flavored with garlic, lemon, butter or all three! I got a Quarter Chicken Combo ($9.99) with dark meat and it came with rice, beans, tortillas and salsa. The chicken had crisp skin and was moist inside. The garlic lemon butter was very flavorful. Fair warning, the garlic is very garlicky. The sides complemented the meal well and the salsa was good but surprisingly not spicy. If whole chicken isn't your thing, they also have tacos, burritos, enchiladas and other authentic Mexican food that you can get with chicken or beef. If you can wake up early enough, they also serve breakfast burritos. The only thing they're missing is carne asada fries. Do yourself a favor. We were charged over $70 for a burrito, an enchilada combo and a chicken dinner combo. They refused to offer an itemized receipt and only generated a basic ten key receipt with zero items listed with prices that are no where NEAR what was listed. What's worse is they withhold food items - then when you realize it,.. it turns into a huge problem. You know what they decided we do t get for being white? The rice and beans. For a fraudulent receipt,.. We asked nicely for our rice and beans. Really. They got so bad - they opt for this. I will reporting their fraudulent and criminal behavior to the appropriate state and federal offices for investigation of fraud. I'm surprised they would think they would prefer a IRS audit for their receipts. Especially when they are stealing money from customers. Get the Breakfast burrito with chicken and Quesadilla with chicken. Beware though, make sure you eat the breakfast burrito first, because once you eat the quesadilla, you'll think the burrito is a let down. The quesadilla is this giant crunchy taco. It's weird I know, just imagine a giant taco and they crisped up the tortilla so perfectly you'd never notice there's barely any chicken inside. Get this!! The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. Everything on the menu is delicious- especially the chicken. The chicken is very moist, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and falls straight off the bone. You truly can't go wrong with anything here. My regular order is the half chicken with extra garlic, lemon, and butter. It comes with beans, rice, corn tortillas, and salsa. The red salsa here is heavenly. I ordered the half chicken without garlic sauce and it was very bland, no salt flavor at all or seasoning. Rice was cold but the beans were good! Salsas were pretty good too.
