I have a soft spot for a good roast chicken. My siblings had mentioned this place to me a few times but we're rarely in the area and with so many food options I just haven't stopped by. Today I wanted to not only try the food but to support a small local business. The service was very fast and friendly. I got the half chicken combo which came with rice and beans. Food: I got a taco combo and a fried chicken plate. YES they have fried chicken here! And their chicken is gooood! The skin is full of flavor and it's got a nice crunch when you bite into it! I really liked it! And they gave you a lot of it! My taco was good as well :) In fact, I'd say it looked more like a burrito than anything else! But the asada inside was juicy and flavorful. Ambiance: It looks like the restaurant used to be a house. There's a patio outside where you can sit down, but towards the later afternoon it can get quite sunny. This place is a direct competitor of El Pollo Loco Mexican food, but much better. The food is more authentic than the El Pollo Loco chain. The flour tortillas are hand made fresh and hot off the grill. Tasty to say the least. I had a two piece leg and thigh plate with rice, refried beans, flour tortillas, and a vintage bottle of Pepsi made in Mexico. ($13) not bad for a lunch meal. 4 Stars. Im doing keto, so i oredered the super duper omelette with steak (machada). DELICIOUS! Even without salsa, it was amazing. The eggs were super light, not overcooked. Stuffed with steak, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms. I added a bit of salsa on top, and it made it even better! I gave my rice and tortillas to my wife as im not supposed to eat too many carbs. This is one of those small kinda places that some would call a hole in the wall down a dark dimly lit street that's just off the beaten path a little bit. It's been a good wile since I've been here and it definitely seemed to not be as good as I had remembered as before I just remember my chicken burrito being packed with chicken and just all around delicious! Wile my burrito was decently good but a bit overpriced and full of just too much lettuce for my total liking. The burrito itself was a good size but definitely had more lettuce in it than everything else the chicken was super flavored as well as the beans and salsa that were inside. The Enchiladas were alright they had a good sauce to them and were packed with chicken that was full of flavor! Their chicken here is definitely the best part of anything you can get and most definitely what I will get next time as we both kinda regretted not getting the half chicken and making our own tacos out of all the delicious chicken they were grilling up! Overall delicious chicken from a small hole in the wall place that you can't go wrong with unless you order the burrito that's filled with lettuce! Doesn't look like much from the outside since it's a small hole in the wall, mom & pops owned Mexican eatery. However, there's something so lip smacking delicious about their garlic butter grilled chicken! I think there's chicken crack in it because once you have a bite you'll crave it all week- literally! Also, their red salsa/sauce is primo, as it has a slightly smokey flavor to it with lots of spice! If you can't handle spice, just go with the pico de gallo. It's a hidden gem of Costa Mesa that's been around since way back when Tower Records used to be across the street! A full chicken meal comes with tortillas, pico de gallo, red sauce, refried beans, and Mexican rice. It lasts my hubby and I almost a full week since there's so much food, but you can't beat that at around $20! Only con: you only get one sauce and one pico, which is definitely not enough for a meal this large, so there's an additional fee per small container. Also, no chips are included with your meal, so everything is pretty much extra. read more

My boyfriend introduced me to this place, he's been going here for years. Everyone working there is pretty much family. I always get the super chicken nachos w/guacamole + garlic on the side. It really is more than enough for 2-3 people. The food is made as you order and the chickens that are grilling are out on display, visible for customers to see. The place isn't big and parking can be a challenge but there's parking on the street too. The prices are too good to resist especially if you consider the portions that are given. After our unsatisfactory meal at Eat Chow, we stopped by here to try and salvage whatever we could of the huge disappointment we were all feeling. Super Pollo is one of those Mexican style grilled chicken places you find dotted around Santa Ana. I've only found one or two of these places which churn out great tasting chicken, but now I've added another to my list. We got a burrito, quarter chicken with beans and rice, as well as a quesadilla to share between us. My friend asked for the lemon garlic sauce -- which is already drizzled on top of the chicken -- so he could slather more on his chicken. It looked really unappetizing but goddamn! It sure tasted heavenly! The chicken is also perfectly grilled with paprika and other seasonings. I like how they left the skin on -- crispy with moist meat under it. I'm usually not a burrito fan because I don't like beans and rice mixed with my meat, salsa, guacamole and whatever else they like to throw into a burrito. I took a bite of this one and believe it or not, it was quite tasty. I still don't like the beans and rice in it, but it was really good. The quesadilla is what blew us all away. It was HUGE and they put salsa, guac and everything else in it. It wasn't flat like ordinary quesadillas are but all puffed up like a huge pocket. Their salsa roja is also very tasty! I woulda liked it to be spicier and I didn't know they had sauteed jalapenos until I read the reviews on here. Next time I'll be sure to ask for some to kick my chicken up a notch! Also, I'm not sure where all these 5 star yelp reviews came from but it's like that one time I read a million 5 star reviews for this nail salon so I went to it and they put my feet in a PLASTIC BAG covering a bowl and it was the first time (of many) I felt betrayed by Yelp. Anyway. I got a quesadilla and it was more like a really flat taco. It had lettuce in it, which does NOT belong in quesadillas. I confirmed this with my Mexican roommate. It also just was very bland. Parking in front can be difficult, may need to park a little further down from the place. I felt like I ordered the wrong thing... I ordered the chicken burrito $8, with the butter, lemon, garlic sauce. It comes with salsa, lettuce, guacamole, and beans. I thought the ingredients didn't go well together. The chicken by itself was good, but the mixture of beans and salsa just overwhelmed the chicken. Next time I would get it with no beans. For $8 and tax it's kinda pricey, the burrito is average size as well. I was expecting something gigantic for that price. The guy at the counter was really cool and nice, offered waters. My friend was advocating for ordering the chicken burrito. A fine choice indeed, but he was forsaking the half chicken. The half chicken is superior in my opinion because with the half chicken you get all the crispy outer layer of the chicken with the lemon/garlic/butter sauce flavor. In the burrito, they put the relatively flavorless white meat inside and shred it up.
