I hate to write a bad review when the service was so friendly and sweet but I have to let you know about my horrible bout of food poisoning from the pho at this place. Boba tea, fried calamari, and egg rolls were delicious, no complaints whatsoever there. I started eating the pho (first time trying this) and right away I thought the broth was bland, not the rich flavor I was expecting. I got half way through when I asked my friends if their beef was as grey looking and as tasteless as mine. They noted that their beef looked green and we all decided to eat around the meat. Right as we got up to pay I knew I was going to be sick, threw up twice, and had to use the bathroom twice before I felt better. They can be busy on the weekends, so prepare to sit next to someone on a table of 8 chairs. It's really okay though because there is enough space especially if there are two people on each ends of the table. I ordered the large seafood pho which came with a lot of squid, fish and shrimp balls and 3 pieces of shrimp; good portion and amount of noodles. I also ordered summer rolls and they were average size, however I've tasted better along with their peanut sauce, which was lacking hoisin/some salt. My friend got the green boba tea which wasn't too sweet and had a good amount of tapioca balls. I would definitely get this drink. Went here a few days ago with my mother for the very first time, and I have to say I very much enjoyed our stay. We got a booth which was great there wasn't many people but it was still pretty busy for a Monday early in the day which kind of told me that they must have nice food. I ended up ordering pho obviously because I really want to just try it being that that is what they're known for, I think it was the small chicken pho and you get a large portion and that one and especially in the large one I had to split it with my mom. For myself I ordered some kind of rice I forgot the name but it had shrimp and veggies I think it might have been the shrimp cajun rice or something like that. My mom ordered I think the number 52 or 53 which she not very much and I enjoy trying the beef it was so good and I think it might have been on a stick you get two or three sticks which is so up our alley and we loved it. All-in-all I recommend trying it I think it's the only pho in the area to my knowledge I may be mistaken but I loved it and I would definitely go back if I'm in need of that beef in a stick or some lovely warm soup on a rainy day or sick day. read more

I LOVE this place! Me and the boyfriend have been going here pretty much every week since they opened in June '09. I've tried many things on the menu, and have not yet been disappointed. The pho is excellent, and i always order the #6 with includes the addition of tripe and tendons with the steak, because i love unusual or challenging meals. The service is always pleasant and attentive. I do not find the meats to be fatty or tough. The tendon and tripe might not be for everyone though.. The coffee is also fabulous, rich and sweet. Not just awful but eff'ing awful. Everything tasted like it had been fried in rancid oil. The tofu in spring/salad rolls was still so hot you could hardly pick them up barehanded, which is pretty unusual for something served cold. However it is the veggie strips in curry sauce that really bring this rating down. If there was curry sauce anywhere on the plate I couldn't see it and I certainly couldn't taste it. Googled pho Salem and this restaurant came up as one of the best. I whole heartedly agree. Parking lot was full when I drove up at 2:00 for a late lunch. Always a good sign! The menu was full of wonderful Vietnamese soups and meals. I came for the pho and decided to stick with that for my first visit. Glad I did as the pho is awesome. Flavorful broth, tender meat and fresh vegetables. I had the pork roll for appetizers which was a great start to a great meal. Service was fast and friendly even when very busy. I will definitely seek them out again when in Salem around feeding time. Awesome food and service. Highly recommend! read more

Worst Pho ever! The after taste was poor quality tap water. There was absolutely no flavor in the broth which is the basis of quality Pho. The veggies, meat, and noodles were just ok....nothing to scream about. I added so many items in hopes of creating some decent flavor but just couldn't. Guess I've been spoiled living in the Portland area having Pho a thousand times. They also have been advertising a second location downtown Salem which has been closed for some time. I have been to many Vietnamese restaurants all over California, Hawaii and South East Asia ranging from high class cuisine to little rundown shacks on the side of the road, and have eaten Pho for years for the ultimate cure for being hungover. This restaurant is by far the worst Vietnamese restaurant I have ever encountered. The broth is the main component of Pho and it was completely lacking spices and flavor to enhance the noodles, vegetables and condiments. The thin beef slices was tough as shoe leather and tasted like it was over boiled in plain, chlorinated water before being served in the bowl. We also ordered fried rice, and had concluded that Panda Express in a small mid-west Wisconsin town could make better fried rice on their worst day than what we were served. As an Asian, I was ashamed of what I placed in my mouth and had the unfortunate circumstance of digesting the unpalatable food. read more

The lady and I have scoured Salem seeking a decent bowl of phó, which some area businesses try to pass off as chicken broth with sliced roast beef and whichever rice noodles they have on hand. Well, we may not have tried every phó outlet there is, but we can certainly stop looking. The broth was the perfect depth of color, with translucent sliced onion and vibrant green onions floating throughout. It had the perfect balance of murky richness and bright spicy fragrance that indicates it has been steeping beef bones and whole spices for hours on a stovetop (if I'm wrong, they sure pulled off a good instant broth). Sweet, savory, and hot, the broth nearly obscured the nest of noodles and meaty bits in the bowl. All the requisite amenities were on hand in the fresh vegetable and spicy condiment form, even some new ones--along with the veggies was a green not before encountered, with spiky leaves and a citrus flavor. Nice! Every bite of phó was enjoyed thoroughly. We also enjoyed very proud examples of Thai tea and Vietnamese iced coffee, which both perked us up and offered refreshing pallet-soothers between bites of steamy goodness. Most notable, however, was the friendly and delightful staff, who always smiled and chatted casually with us at each opportunity. And to top it off, when the chef brought our meal to the table, he informed me that next time I could save money by ordering a bit differently (i.e., not having to pay extra for my extra meatballs). Better than the wonderful memory of visiting Super Phó is the comfort of knowing that next time the urge for phó hits, we'll have a great place to go. read more

I've had a lot of pho. I'm vietnamese. My mom makes it and so do relatives. I've been to many restaurants that serve it. The broth here isn't as flavorful and rich as I've had elsewhere. The star anise seems to overpower every other flavor in the soup. The chicken is bland, like it's boiled in plain water. It tastes decent after I add all my fixins, but generally you shouldn't have to add much when the broth is good. I only have had the pho, so I can't comment on the other food read more

The place is a dump. You walk in and there is a big fish tank that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years and it's the first thing you see. Service was beyond awful and the food was average at best. I got the #9 which is the round steak and brisket and it barely had any meat. Don't plan on having any conversations with anyone because half the time they have a blender running. So if you want to be treated like trash and leave the restaurant hungry by all means go for it. read more

I guess there is always a first. I have never been let down by Yelp until today. Went here with really high hopes and didn't even stay long enough to order. Why, you might ask? Well, a person who clearly was behind me in line to be seated, was given a table before me. Now I am not a petty person but the place was packed and he gladly accepted the table not even offering it to me since I was there first. I was offered a menu and told it would be five minutes. I was rather disappointed, not so much about the food as the service. The salad roll and pho were okay. Nothing spectacular, but not bad. However, there was one lady who took orders for the entire room and when we sat down we had to wait quite a while for her to bring us menu because there weren't enough to go around and then even more time for her to get back to us and take our order. I saw a young man wandering around with a water pitcher and observed him refilling glasses, so I assume that he worked there. He had a grungy shirt and jeans on, and there was nothing indicating that he was a wait staff person. When our food finally arrived it was brought by someone from the kitchen who first tried to take it to the wrong table. I am glad that we had an hour for lunch because even though we had come from the nearby DoubleTree on Market, it took the full hour. It was okay. We walked into the restaurant and it was very dirty. The floor was so greasy and slick we had to be careful not to slip. The table was dirty and the condiment containers were dirty and greasy. I jokingly told my husband that I sure hoped we didn't get sick. I had spring rolls. The peanut sauce had little flavor and the rolls are really chewy with an abundance of rice. We both had the number 7 which is pho with round steak. It was good but not my favorite. My favorite place for a good spicy soup is Mai Ciusine in Tigard. I sat in a booth by the window and when looking down between the booth and the window you could see all kinds of gross stuff stuck down there. I would go back if the place was cleaned up. read more

Was so excited to eat here. We read all the reviews and sat at our table watching all the wonderful looking things brought to other tables. We ordered the wrapped fried shrimp and calamari appetizers. They were surprisingly bland and tasted mostly of dirty deep fry oil but we had hope for our entrees. One daughter ordered the meatball pho and it was pretty good if you didn't eat the meatballs which were spongy little wads of flavorless and texture less meat-like substance. I had the noodle bowl with the grilled pork and my 10 year old had a kid's rice and grilled pork. Both of us left our entire meals on the table. They were INEDIBLE!! The pork and everything it touched (rice, noodles, vegetables, etc) was disgusting and tasted exactly like licking the inside of the lid of a well-used barbecue grill. I don't think the grill that it was cooked on had been cleaned since the turn of the century. Being who I am, I paid for the whole meal and left a tip ( it wasn't the server's fault), left all the food on the table and ran. Do yourself a favor and save your money.
