I thought I'd check out Simply Pho in Salem, OR after seeing a performance at The Historic Elsinore Theater. This Vietnamese restaurant is in a small shopping center with several other Asian restaurants as well, and has plenty of parking in the lot. First off, the folks who work here are very kind and attentive. I was quickly seated, and given a rundown of the menu before the waitress left to get water and utensils. When they returned in 3 minutes they were ready to take my order, and were receptive to my requested modifications to the dish. My steaming hot pho arrived about five minutes after I ordered it. The broth has a great flavor, and didn't seem too salty or oily. The aromatics were fresh, clean and plentiful. My only critique is that the noodles were about 15% overcooked. The restaurant uses noodles that seem a little more substantive than what I'm normally served, which I really liked. Overall, I had an enjoyable experience and I'd consider returning to try their other dishes. read more

Last time I came here was six years ago. It's just really far from where I live, but we were in the area and needed a quick lunch. We ordered a soba noodle veggie Ramen and the standard pork Ramen. I thought it was weird. The Ramen didn't come with corn and I had to pay a dollar for a scoop of corn to be added. They had friendly wait staff. The Ramen came quickly since it was after lunch hours I do think they could take some time and repair the bench seat that are torn and the bathroom was pretty messy looking. read more

We ordered the garlic edamame, Vietnamese chicken wings, orange chicken with white rice, and pho, plus the mango coconut drink with boba. Everything came out hot and was super tasty. The only thing to note is that the chicken wings came out last even though we ordered them as an appetizer, so just be aware they take a bit longer to cook--but they're so worth the wait. The service was great, and the place itself was very cozy. Every single table was filled on a Thursday night, which says a lot. Super affordable too--$54 for our entire dinner with drinks. I want to give 5 stars but just can't. The more I think of their misrepresentation of a side just irks me!!! I ordered chicken and broccoli with a small side of chow mein to go. I ordered at 4:57 pm. They were a bit busy, but it took over 40 minutes to get it. I have been to busy Chinese restaurants before and have never had that long of a wait whether seated in a group or as take out. When I opened my containers at home I found a well portioned container of chicken and broccoli with a good balance of meat to veggies. So I was pleased. BUT then I opened the small box of "chow mein" which was really just a box of yakisoba noodles. No veggies, no sauce, no nothing just a box of noodles. How the heck is a box of noodles considered chow mein?. It was not listed as as "chow mein noodles" and so this was a huge shock and disappointment. $6.00 for a small box of noodles! Thinking there was a mistake with my order, I called and was told a small side is just that.... a box of fricking noodles. If you want actual chow mein you have to get a full order. Without veggies, meat or sauce etc it is not chow mein it is just noodles. So call it noodles! Due to the amount of time it took to get chicken and broccoli with a box of noodles and their misrepresentation of their small chow mein it doesn't matter how the food was prepared or tasted. This is a 1 star experience and I will eat where the food description matches the food delivered. read more

Covid hit the house and we were craving something warm! The pho was wonderful and came all separated so we could spice it up how we wanted! Thank you!! The service was wonderful. They are SO fast and very friendly. It's become my favorite stop for pho. Found their pho is better than most in the area.

Their name is quite deceiving (they have diverse menu offerings). So don't let the name fool you as Pho is just a small section of food choices. They also offer lots of different choices of protein in their Pho. Since discovering this hidden gem we've eaten here quite a few times. Have also introduced family and visiting guests here and have never been disappointed. Same for others in our party. If you like spicy I've had their Kung Pao Chicken and it was very good. Large portion too. But you can't go wrong with a large bowl of Pho. I was somewhat reluctant to review Simply Pho because it's already hard to get in here at times (limited seating). Too Simply Pho or Simply NOT Pho would be more accurate for the name! I used to work and lived in the Salem-Keizer area for 15 years. I still drive through, check out, and support new eateries every chance I come through. I was excited about Simply Pho and What A Big Disappointment! Perhaps this place is good for other Chinese dishes which I will never know because I will definitely not come back nor recommend it to anyone. If you want mediocre Pho, this is not even worth your penny, let alone authentic Vietnamese Pho. You'd be better off spending your money at Kim Huong on Silverton Road; this place is family-owned and it's as original as it gets for Pho in Salem. Kim Huong is not the best Pho, yet it's solid and decent for the area. As a born and raised Vietnamese in Viet Nam for my first 2 decades, I should have left when the waitress told me there was no Vietnamese or Vietnamese speaking in the kitchen or owner. She thinks they are Cantonese. Again, I still have fond memories of the area and want to continue to support any new business and root for more. The second red flag for me was when I saw broccoli, bok choy, and carrot slides in the Special Pho-Pho Noodle Soup with Wonton I ordered! There was way too much noddle in proportion with everything else that came with it. The broth was completely bland with absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The word Pho should not even be associated with such bland and unflavored broth! I came in around 5 p.m. on a rainy Sunday in September 2023 and the place was packed with around 5 people waiting for a table and take out the wait was 20-30 minutes every time the phone rang and the waitress told them so. The place is clean, cozy L-shape at the corner to the right of Great Harvest Bread Co. on Commercial Street and Madrona Avenue, across Freddy's. My curry came steaming hot with very cold potatoes that tasted like they had been cooked many days ago and had absorbed the taste and smell of the refrigerator or freezer. It was disturbingly bad. Also, the worst scallion pancakes I have ever had. Zero flavor and an odd texture. I complained twice about the potatoes (the temperature and taste) --at the table and again got up to tell the server they should absolutely be thrown out and not used for other dishes. So, I was surprised that when I returned back to the table from complaining, the server walked over and put the check for the whole table in front of me (as if for me to pay for everyone) and had not removed my curry that I had complained twice about. On top of that, the service was below average. Not a good experience. Will not be going back. read more

I've eaten in and taken out of this noodle shop and enjoyed the food both times. I must say that the way they do take out is very impressive. They separate the noodles, veggies, and meats from the very hot broth and let the customer add it when they get home or to where ever they are going to be eating. I was worried about the soup melting through the plastic containers. They've ingeniously figured out a work around for that. Their soup and noodles are so good. Me and my family will be returning for more. One recommendation: they are a Vietnamese food restaurant and not a Thai or Chinese place, so I would steer clear of the Pad Thai (not very good) and anything NOT Vietnamese. At least that's my experience. If you want Chinese or Thai food, go to a restaurant where they specialize in those foods. This place does wonderful Pho. Enough said. The first time I ate here, they forgot my broth for my soup. I figured it was an accident. I decided to come in again and the food was fantastic! The portions are very large. They gave us our food in a reusable bag. Their cups are one of a kind and I've been reusing mine. I came in again the other day and I continue to be satisfied. Their orange chicken is phenomenal. It is crispy and flavorful. My favorite item on their menu is the Vietnamese Coffee. It's my favorite drink and I've had it many times. So far, this place does it best. The restaurant is very clean and tidy. The customer service is always satisfactory. They use many reusable or recyclable items and seem conscious of their environmental impact. I called in a placed order to go of the vermicelli noodle bowl with egg rolls, my bowl came with absolutely no noodles. It was loaded with bean sprouts, which I am assuming they threw a ton in there to replace the noodle and tons of lettuce, my bowl had pork and shrimp and I have a seafood allergy. I would never order shrimp a day in my life, and I specifically told the man at the counter over the phone that I wanted a vermicelli bowl with eggroll and extra peanut sauce, and my bowl came with absolutely none of what I asked for, and it came with an excessive amount of lettuce and no vermicelli noodle!!!! I have tried to call them, but they are closed now so I'm going to call them when they open back up and ask for a refund. This is the third time this restaurant has failed to provide food to my quality and liking and it seems like they are skimping out on ingredients when they run low and that is absolutely unacceptable and uncalled for especially when you have customers paying for something they are expecting, and they are not receiving. read more

This Pho place was a pleasant find while traveling by Salem. Restaurant decor is clean and comfortable. Kitchen is partition openly behind the dining area viewable to see the wok chef at work or prepping the pho orders. I noticed their take out soup noodle orders, they separate the broth in a standup bag w/sprout rather than a hard container, Its great that they separate to prevent overcooking of noodles. I select this place because of good reviews on Beef Chow Fun on Yelp but was told they remove all the pan fried noodles and other traditional dishes so that's why the 4 stars. disappointed we both ordered #101 - Pho soup is flavorful with good amount of sliced meats, tendons, tripe and beef balls. They individualized the basil/bean sprouts/pepper portion by each Pho soup order by pre portioning. It was small amount of Bean sprouts so I asked for more, server give me another set of vegetable condiments in which basil and sliced pepper went to waste. I was sooooo hungry I forgot to take pictures! This is a great place for everyone in the family. I am gluten free and one brother is vegetarian and the other a meat eater and we each found something we liked here. I had the vegetable pho with beef broth. The pho noodles here are gluten free. I added lots of chilli paste that they have on the table. They also have Sriracha. My brother had the 101 pho which is all beef, brisket, and meatball. My other brother had the vegetable curry rice. Fair prices for large portions. Notably, they don't skimp on the shrimp! Even at medium, the spice level is a bit low, which is perfect for my tastes but you should know what you're getting in to. I highly recommend the chow mein, but the price on the boba is a bit tricky to justify. This is the first yelp review I have ever written. The food was so good I needed to write one. The pho is immaculate. The broth is delicious, served with your choice of meat and they give you a side of bean sprouts, jalapeños, a herb, and a lime slice. I dumped it all in with some chili sauce on top and the serotonin is still running through my body. The server we had was very kind and patient. It's such a cozy place and very nice inside. After some calculating of everything my bf and I enjoyed this location, our overall rating was 4.9. Appetizer's were delicious. We had garlic soy edamame, and fried pork egg rolls. Flavor was INCREDIBLE The wonton pho was also delicious, the wontons had an interest after taste that I personally didn't enjoy. But we loved that they take the shrimp tails off and fill the bowl with a variety of veggies. Lastly we decided to try their MANGO COCO Bobba tea. And wow did that drink blow my mind. OMG a grand opening of a new trendy Chinese Vietnamese restaurant worth getting off the freeway for if you are driving through Salem. The Beef Chow Fun and Singaporean noodles are both made with rice noodles. There's 7 kids having lunch here with their parents. They are well behaved and totally engaged in their family and food. The ambience is clean with an open kitchen and the tables have booths along 2 banks of windows which give the dining areas a feeling of expansion. Cafeteria food at best. Ordered the RARE STEAK PHO, TOM YUM CHICKEN PHO, CHILLI WONTONS, WINGS, EDAMAME w SOY & GARLIC and CRAB PUFF. Didn't finish a dang thing, it was all just so lackluster. Pho broth (the most important element) was bland. Wings had decent flavor but we're shriveled little things and were warm in some areas and cold in others...off-putting. Chilli wontons were a congealed mess of three (?) wontons on the bottom of a plastic container. Mushy and tasted like the plastic it was packaged in. Edamame was in a thick sweet, spicy brown sauce...just not my thing. Crab puffs were greasy, chewy not crispy, and the filling was, once again, bland. First off! I ordered delivery. So no mention of service...at this point ;) I got the vermicelli bowl and a brisket pho for the lady. The order arrived after about 20 minutes and I was excited for my bowl. When I opened my food box, that excitement dwindled down quickly. Got damn, they are stingy with the pork! Did y'all run out? My goodness dear yelpers. I honest to the yelp gods, swear that I only ate one small piece of pork and there are about 6 pieces of thinly sliced pork left to eat. Want to know what's underneath that? A huge bed of lettuce and veggies; which I do enjoy. So, thank you. They also did add 3 pieces of shrimp and an egg roll, I guess. First thought was: "ya'll need to step it up." Your lesser competition in the vicinity does better than that... The amount of noodles, maybe enough to feed my 4 year old nephew? I took a sip of the pho broth and it's pretty good. Was searching for good fried rice, was skeptical of this place being a pho place, but had good reviews. We had spring rolls, pho, orange chicken, and pork fried rice and two Thai iced teas. My wife and I both over ate because everything was amazing, still had enough for both of us to have lunch the next day for less than 50 dollars which was a fantastic value! I love the food here! The mushroom chicken is my favorite a la carte dish for when we do take out, but when dining in, you can't go wrong with a nice hot bowl of pho. I went there a few days ago with my family and our visit was great! The server was very kind and understanding when after she left to check on another table I realized I had messed up my kid's order and found her to ask her to change it. The space itself is very nice, and my kid got a kick out of the window to the kitchen area where you can see people cooking while you wait. We'll definitely go there again! read more
