Run of the mill Mexican restaurant for the American palette. But hey, for what it is, they do some fine work here. Came here recently for happy hour and for a quick burrito fix. Ordered the chili verde burrito. Burrito was not very spicy, but it did the job. Also got a Corona, followed by a Dos Equis Lager. Both were good. Had a decent day at work for a change. Check came, tried to use Yelp check in offer $5 off order of $25 or more, got through, surprisingly, the server said something about not being able to combine multiple offers into one but it didn't say that on the Yelp offer. Whatever, still tipped the server off of the full pre-discounted amount, so hopefully no salt there. Like I said, run of the mill. Didn't even bother checking for WiFi. read more

Sooo my family of four came here on a Friday night on Memorial Day weekend. This restaurant is huge. Despite there being only one couple in the waiting area, they told us there is a 30 min wait. Wtf. This is at 6:30 pm. I waited 15 mins. Then I happened to glance around. 1/4 of the tables were empty in the main room with another room that had like one table full. I told this to the manager and he gave me an attitude. He told me that there was 2 and then 5 people ahead of me (where were they?) and then that there was "several large parties"... whatever that means. And that it would be another 15 minutes! In any case, I kept talking to him and I'm sure other customers saw. Of course we were hangry. Ok and the shrimp burrito was $12. It had these largish bay type shrimp in them that were completely tasteless and mushy. Weird. Don't know why they didn't grill or marinate them. What a waste. See the pic. Its not the best food in town, but its also not the worst. They have great chips and salsa (I just love the salsa!) and service can be hit or miss. They always give you plenty of food, so you never leave hungry. I normally get the enchiladas or the cocido, but tonight i wanted steak, and I got the carne asada. It wasn't very flavorful but it was very tender. The salsa added to the steak made it much better. My friend Roger had the wet Super Mex burrito, and it took up the entire plate. HUGE and cheap. Tonight service was spot on. Our waitress came by frequently to top off our drinks, filled up our salsa, and was on top of everything. My next visit, I could be less lucky. Growing up, I ate Super Mex pretty frequently, with that in mind the super mex I had today was not the same food I've had in the past. If it wasn't for the amazing service of our waitress I would give this review one star instead of two. However, the waitress was so sweet and accommodating and I really appreciated her attentiveness. I ordered the horchata for my beverage and while drinking I noticed a lipstick stain on my cup. The waitress changed it out and said she informed the manager about it. However the manager didn't do anything about it including coming by and apologizing. Following this, we received our food and my cousin found a hair in her enchiladas. She pulled it out and didn't want to complain about another thing so she refused to say anything. My grandfather also got the wrong order but also didn't want to wait for his food any longer. Lastly, the quality of the food was not the best either. It felt like all the food was dumped on the plate and microwaved instead of made to order. I hope that these criticisms are not ignored because I really hope that they improve the overall quality of their service. Food is always prepared very quick. Hot. And good. Servers are always so nice. Especially when we come with our toddler. They are extremely careful when placing the food down to make sure they are out of reach of her. Priced fairly well. Good build your own combo deals! We have tried most things on the menu. The kids werent that excited about their food. the real story here is the full size tortillas that they serve as the chip- you must break them to convert them to dippable chips- strange. I know Super Mex from living in Long Beach most of my life. It's without a doubt top shelf Mexican food. I sure hope they bring it back to Uptown Whittier soon. I moved in Whittier just as it opened up in 2020 right before COVID. I thought God was speaking to me and saying, "This move is good and I will reward you listening to me for once." As soon as I walked into this placeI was greeted with an authentic smile and a warm welcome. If you wonder why I feel a need to share that is because watch how often that doesn't happen. The salsa they sell is very tasty. The offer it in 5 different sizes from 2oz to 32Oz. Another thing you'll notice is that this place is SUPER CLEAN! The floors and counters were clean. The bathrooms are clean as well. If you don't make it a habit to check out the restroom at EVERY restaurant you go to - you need to start. It tells you a lot about the cleanliness of the ktchen and the priority the management has when it comes to cleanliness. There's lots of parking because it shares a HUGE parking lot with Target. It has outdoor seating. Has a separate Cantina (bar) from the dining room which I think is a good idea. The music is just loud enough to wheree you can hear each other and not Heeger what the other people at other tables are talking about. The decor is typical - bright colors and maps adorn the walls. The tables looked comfortably spaced and the chairs look comfy. I didn't sit because I was walking around checking the place out and snapping pics for this review. I will the next time I come here. Mia was the one who took care of me - and she did it super well. She gave me a taste of the Salsas, that she said are a big seller - and it was delicious! I actually bought a 16 oz container too! So she was right!! BTW, when you buy the fresh salsa - they give you WHOLE CORN TOSTADAS! A good amount!! And they don't taste stale because the oil the fry them in is clean - which makes a big difference. I Hear there are two Locations so make your way to either as I'm sure they both great! I will be coming back for a weekend breakfast as well as Happy Hour on a Taco Tuesday!! The burrito was AMAZING! Carnitas w Green Chile Sauce - hope the rice / double the beans / make it spicy!! TERRIBLE SERVICE I ordered a large catered order, the day before to avoid delays. That was my mistake. I showed up for the scheduled pick-up time today and guess what? As soon as I show up, my order is being made. 20 minutes later....nothing. A line of to-go orders get their food and out the door. 30 minutes later....nothing....more to go order come in and get their food and go. 45 minutes later.....nothing......55 minutes later I finally get my food. Only after I bring up the fact that I did my order a day in advance to avoid waiting. The reason I got for the delay? "Everyone else ordered and came late." Are you kidding me? Who cares about everyone else? I ordered 24 hours ago. Maybe more. And guess who was the last one out the door because they were closing early? ME. The catered order. The largest order they had. So they got my money and made me wait because they no longer needed to care. I was a captive customer. And don't cry me about being understaffed. There were 4 girls packing up the food for everyone else. There were 5 to 6 people in the kitchen cooking. So they weren't understaffed. They just don't care if you made your order and paid. Don't cater with supermex if you have a scheduled event. Don't cater with Supermex if you want to be treated with priority. It's first come first serve....if you are lucky. read more

I really have loved supermax over the years. My most favorite locations still is Long Beach both locations, however I really do enjoy a quick bite here in the bar on my way home from business meetings. Unfortunately the service tends to be a little slow but I will not fault them on that because I appreciate a good meal a good margarita and some delicious food. I really do enjoy their crispy shredded beef taco and has that old school shredded cheese, a little bit of sauce and a nice roasty flavor to it. The OG margarita will knock your socks off. If I could give this place lower then a 1 star I really really would. These guys can't make simple burritos with simple modifications to save their lives.... Literally went in for an order they messed it up by still putting beans on a burrito I simply asked for with no beans. Went back in and they assured me the remake would be make the correct way. Well they didn't put beans but put the wrong meat and it's a Meat I don't eat (pork). Now I called and they remade my food on another day. Still today the remake was made wrong so out of all 3 attempts making our food. The chef failed in one way or another with one of our entrees... again I would understand if they were crazy modified. But no beans extra rice doesn't seem very hard to me. read more

Haven't been here in years and we just happened to be in the area so we popped in for lunch. My husband got the chicken tostada and it was loaded with chicken, lettuce and a bit of cheese and guacamole. Very light and satisfying. I got the combo plate with a chile relleno and a cheese enchilada. The sauces on both of these items was delicious and I would definitely order it again! Have been passing this place for a while and wanted to visit. What a mistake. The positive- Drinks Mango Margarita was excellent. The OG margarita was excellent including the shot of tequila The Negative- The fajitas were tasty but badly plated. The food was only ok and not enough of everything. Love coming here when I can! Taco Tuesday's are good. Food: I like their regular tacos with shredded beef and chicken enchilada with green rice. Food is always consistent and comes out fairly quickly! Staff: always friendly and am greeted when walking in. The servers are fun to talk with.
