I visited for the 1st time 2 weeks ago, and I have been at least 4-5 times already. I love how fresh the food is on the hot deli bar, and I am so thankful that it's behind protective glass for an employee to gather and present instead of it being in an open area, etc. Although the cashiers are normally less than excited to see any customer, they work fast, and efficient. The staff is always kind and hardworking, but today I want to specifically recognize an employee named Baron. I have watched Baron work over the years. He is almost always by himself, quietly focused, working hard, and never drawing attention to himself. He is the kind of employee who just gets the job done. Because of how focused he always is, I honestly expected that when I asked for help today, he might say no--and I would have completely understood. This morning around 8:00 a.m., I was shopping for white grapes for a patient I care for. She is not able to get around easily, and one of her simple joys is having white grapes when I come back from the store. There were none available on the floor, and Baron was in the middle of unloading and checking in what looked like a very large shipment--many packages, clearly a lot of work. Without hesitation, Baron said yes. He went all the way to the back, unpacked multiple boxes, and by the time I returned, he had gone through them and pulled the white grapes from the bottom of a box--specifically to make sure I could take them for her. I was incredibly grateful, but more importantly, the woman I care for was absolutely thrilled. What Baron did may seem small to some, but it meant everything to her--and it meant a lot to me to see that level of care and consideration. Safeway Charles Village is fortunate to have someone like Baron. His quiet dedication, work ethic, and kindness truly stood out today. I went to Giant on a mission for stringless sugar snow snap peas. Thus far this is the only store…read morethat carries the stringless variety of peas that are excellent for snacking. After failing to find stringless peas at Aldi and Harris Teeter, I went out of my way to this Giant as there are no Giants in my general area. Parking was a breeze on a Sunday evening, but it was packed inside the store. Luckily the produce section is just to the left of the entrance and I was quickly able to procure 3 bags of peas. It was the self-checkout line that was the pain. There are perhaps 10 scanners/registers in self-checkout, all in use, and a long line for self-checkout. The good news is this line moved quickly within 5 minutes I was ringing myself up, paying for my peas, and George Jefferson strolling out the door. The rest of the store looked nice and reasonably clean given the sheer amount of people in there. It's doubtful I ever do real grocery shopping here unless I move to Hampden, but I'll continue popping by as long as they continue carrying those STRINGLESS sugar snap peas!

From the cashier you hear that someone has called out or they ran out of hours at the beginning of the week..that is not acceptable, I am a manager myself if I see lines in my company I either call someone to the front or get on the register myself.. my latest stop in the store was one register with there light on and two other cashiers with there light off. This is not acceptable. If people have called out because they didn't feel like being there management needs to do a coaching. If you have issues you should have a contingency plan for when these things happen so your customer does not get long hours waiting in line because your management team doesn't know what to do. If I was the president of the company if I got an email like this i would first not let the store know I am coming like I have seen managers in the past do. I would put on so street clothes like your customers wear and go to see for myself how things are running .. but I know you will just sit in your cozy chair look like you are doing something and continue to let your customers suffer ..not for me there is several other grocery stores in the area maybe they will be better.
