My Mom discovered this place and I've been a regular here since. Recently crossed over from eating meat and turned Vegan so I no longer get the Jerk Or Stew chicken; I now get the Ital Stew, Kale and etc. Food is really good and filling. This was everything!!! As you can see I couldn't wait till I get in to eat. As soon I got in the car I had to start eating. I had the saltfish and okra along with green bananas, yuca and yellow yams. Wanted to try this place for a while and finally did. First of all compared to all the other Jamaican restaurants I had visited this one is by far the cleanest. They have the food out in buffet style to order like most Spanish places. They offered a variety of foods, and everything looked delicious. We ordered the oxtail tails with white rice and cabbage. I got a large oxtail dinner and the seasoning was off/non existent. I ended up adding some Sazon seasoning and browning sauce when I got home to not allow the whole dinner and my money go to waste. The cabbage was good and the rice was okay. Given that the oxtails were not seasoned well the gravy wasn't that good either. I also got some patties on the side which were tasty. I probably won't be back..too many other good restaurants in the area. The service was quick and the staff was friendly. read more

I would like to say that this "Restaraunt" if I could I would give a -5 star. I don't live in the area however I have been to this place 2 times. The first time I went in it was for breakfast. Read the reviews on Yelp decided to try it. As soon as I went in I thought after looking at the ridiculously burnt fritters. Who burns fritters how does one burn a whole container of fritters. Ok so I overlooked that passed over that and got Ackee salt fish which was bland and salty at the same time. I chalked it up to they have an off day because the place was packed and Yelp reviews were like its so awesome . In the neighborhood another day tried them (because Peoples Choice Restaraunt is closed ) and I really wanted some liver and figured give them another try. Let me say I am Jamaican who can cook who knows what good food looks like, what good service looks like. So I go in the burnt fritters are front and center again but even more disturbing is the mashed out sloppy looking food to the left that they are serving. While standing there they bring out a container of "fresh" boiled dumpling and white yam flip it into the display pan that contain the stickers from the green bananas in the water. Dumplings, boiled dumplings burnt. Big as day how do you think that is ok. This place has no care for their community and the people who they are serving. It is terrible when just because you think some do not know better you treat them and serve them any kind of sub par slop and call it Jamaican cuisine. As a Jamaican I object to this place and their don't care attitude for serving good, clean food. Majority of Jamaican Restaraunt are slow as all. Could be 1 person in there 3 servers still 15 mins plus. HOWEVER you are hard pressed to find one that its food looks sloppy upon presentation or display. If this is what is happening out front I am afraid to think the nastiness that goes on in the back. If your going to serve a community you should care enough to provide good service and clean food. It can't be too much to remove the stickers from the bananas or at minimum remove it from the water that said bananas will sit in for some time prior to bringing it to the front. Don't go with it doesn't matter how it looks or taste they will still give us their money because we are here. (Current status however). After reading the reviews I wanted to revisit and have a memorable food experience. so yesterday 7/22/17 ... i drove to Orange (still looks the same) stepped in & ordered a Medium Curry Goat with Kale & Rice & peas, I also ordered 2 spinach patties I heard others raving about. I paid $16.85..... got home and realized I was given curry chicken. curry goat sounds nothing like curry chicken nor does it cost the same! the patties were great but my curry was way too spicy and I was overcharged. not cool, not cute nor amusing. The food is dry,the plantains were fry. I like moist sweet plantains, the rice and peas needs gravy too dry. Cabbage no flavor just bland. I guess this will be my last time. There was one hand held menu, and no menu posted inside/outside. Strange. This is the second hole in the wall restaurant in Orange I've been to with basically no menu. Also the second hole in the wall restaurant that did not have all their food ready. No side vegetables and I had to wait to get plantains. Every entree is supposed to have those. Service was pretty bad. It's a definitely a dive. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but too many dings even for a dive. Strange dings too. Food was mostly good. Would I go back? Hard to say. Had this place book marked since I moved out here in February. I recently tried the oxtail, stew chicken, and jerk chicken, kale, rice, beef patty, and chicken curry patty. The proteins are very tender, flavorful, and falls off the bone very easily. The parties are my favorite because they're always hot, fresh, and extremely tasty! The reason why I'm giving this place 3 stars is because both my visits here have included an exotic and colorful insect in my kale salad. The first time, there was a green insect, the second time, there was a yellow and black insect (similar to a beetle). There was an unusual crunch in my kale salad but I didn't think twice about it until I discovered the insect in my food. It was quiet off putting. They need to ensure a triple and quadruple wash with their kale. I would come back but I probably wouldn't reorder the kale salad. read more

Walking in (by myself) I realized the cashier was actively on the phone taking orders and a fat lady was standing beside her with her back towards me. In order for the fat lady to even acknowledge me the cashier had to tap her on the shoulders. Anyways, I proceeded to order 4 patty and cocoa bread then at the end I asked for an extra patty total being 5 patty and 4 cocoa bread. Before paying the cashier was indicating to add cocoa bread but I told her I didn't need any extra just the 5 patty and 4 cocoa bread. (I thought she was adding cocoa bread number 5) . So I left, then I realized the fat one did not take my order correctly in fact she didn't add any cocoa bread to my order at all. Annoyed I went back, again the cashier seems to have an understanding of the mistake made by the fat one who proceeded to argue with me for her mistake. Arguing with me for her illiteracy. how is this professional? She told me I shouldn't take my problems out on her. Why would this be the case? My issue remains your incompetence to take my 5 patty 4 cocoa bread order? I don't have it in me to suggest thar anyone lose their jobs but the fat one today 8/5/2020 needs additional training. I appreciated the cashier for sorting this out but honestly I was ready to fight and no employee should allow a customer to feel like they are fighting gyal out a street. Came to east orange for a seminar and looking for a good quick lunch... This place popped up and I'm glad I checked it out. Never had Jamaican food and now I'm hooked. I order a smoothie ( SO good and fresh!) and a beef pattie since I wanted something lite (fucking amazing!). I also got this coconut cookie and a raisin bread that I'm going to try later. The counter woman was SUPER nice, she showed me all the food and helped me choose something that would work for me. Overall a great experience and really good food. I was completely unsatisfied. Then I asked for a smoothie and one worker was unsure of where the person who made the smoothies were so she kindly asked her rude co worker which stated that she wasn't anyone's keeper and it wasn't her problem that the smoothie lady wasn't available.
