I decided after having this company "care" for my lawn for two seasons that it was time to cut my losses and run. My home in the GlenLakes subdivision was once admired by neighbors but since Sunshine State was brought in to care for my lawn it has suffered so much. I started to realize this company was not up to the job when I learned that my lawn was dying during a drought early last summer. I called them to investigate the problem but by the time they got there, the lawn was severely damaged. Further, they left the problem unresolved adding to the damage. The fault was, as it turned out, was with the HOA supplied water being shut off without my knowledge. Sunshine State has been in the subdivision for years and should know the key players at the HOA office and should have corrected the problem right away before leaving.
Sunshine State just added to the problem and cost me money by their negligence. It only took a phone call to get the HOA employee over to the house to have the water turned back on. Since my return in October, I cut my connection to the HOA system and restored the well that was on my property, so that problem was fixed. I fixed it, not Sunshine State.
My other issue with Sunshine State is the health of the lawn itself, very weedy in spite of their claimed application of weed and insecticide treatment. Since I paid in advance for services from April to April I asked for a credit for services not performed when I informed them that I was terminating my agreement with them on or about February 4th, and I have been waiting for a check ever since. I'm sure that if I owed them any money at all they'd be knocking on my door, but in this case, they have been negligent in returning the unearned money. Keeping unearned money is nothing short of thievery. On or about March 16th I did get a check, however, it was written to someone with a different name so I had to mail it back, today is April 7th and I'm still waiting. In short, this company may be overwhelmed, and not competent to handle its obligations to its customers. When you call the office you only get the answering machine, then you get a call a day or two later by a woman who works from home. The office at 8244 Commercial Way is never staffed, so stopping there is a waste of time. I know, I've tried a few times, once I caught the owner there and he was in a hurry to leave to get to his commercial jobs I was told....so even if you catch someone there, it may be a waste of time.
I've been thinking about writing this review for a long while, but ultimately I decided to get the word out that this company may disappoint you. I used them based on a recommendation, and they may have been worthy of a recommendation years ago, but success as a business may have caused them to take it for granted so disappointing some customers like me may not be a concern. read more
