Very very unprofessional and one of the worst customer service I have ever seen! I came for acrylic-refill $45. And the guy who was doing my nails kept on paused me and cashing some customers out. The ratings are accurate. I came here to do my nails (shellac with extension). It didn't make an appointment but they took walk ins so that I as fine. The lady told me to wait 10 mins because they didn't have a nail technician available, I ended up waiting for about 20 mins. The nails took about 2hrs to get done (got there at 6:30, didn't finish until 8:45). They turned out pretty good although the nail lady rushed and cut me multiple times with the electric nail filer. When I came back about 2 weeks later to get my nails removed, the lady did a good job. But it wasn't until I got home that I realized she didn't take off two of the nail extensions, instead she filed them down so they looked like my natural nail. I was very disappointed when I found out, because I paid for my nails to be removed and came out with two still on. read more

I visited this nail salon again to get my nails done with my Mom for my cousin's wedding back in October 2011 and decided to write a review now. We did our nails and it cost around 20$ each, this gentlemen did my nails and did a really good job surprisingly. He was really bubbly and talking a lot, really friendly and was very professional. It was however quite busy and my Mom had a manicure and pedicure. She commented how they use the same brushes to clean her foot and not brand new ones, compared to other places she has been to. I'm not sure if it was just busy and they didn't pay close enough attention but for a small salon it seemed decent. I would go here for a manicure only though. Otherwise I would given this place 4.5 stars but hygiene is really important so I can't let this one go. read more

I have done gel nails on myself for several years. I went for the first time ever to get acrylic nails done before Christmas. I wasn't thrilled with how they came out. I asked him to make them a bit shorter, but he left them long (making life difficult for typing..) I also wanted graduated silver tips but he gave me french silver tips. They looked nice but were a bit chunky. I filed and repainted them with gel polish a few times and stretched out going back to almost 2 months. I had an appointment last evening to get them redone. This time I got an older woman. She decided that the old acrylic needed to all come off after a bit of filing, she proceeded to PRY THE ACRYLIC OFF NAILS despite my protests and telling her she was damaging my nails. Two other girls from the shop backed her up saying that is how they do it. Since this was my first time having this type of service done, I was unsure. I have since confirmed that they should have soaked the acrylic off using cotton and foils, the same way the gel polish was removed from my nails the first time I went at Christmas. I wanted short nails this time and thought I try 'squoval' shaped. I went in with over 4 weeks of growth so my nails were pretty long. She cut them VERY short. My right thumbnail is actually so short it no longer covers the tip of my thumb, and the nail is wider than it is long.. which is not attractive. Also, the skill with which the acrylic was applied was not good. I am not an expert, but there are enough youtube videos out there that I know her C-curve is flattened. Instead of building up product on the middle of the nail, she flattened the product out, pushing it to the sides creating very chunky nails. I am not impressed and will not be going back. read more

If you're looking for a place that does a job quickly & not necessarily well, this is the place for you. I had no appointment and was greeted right away. I opted for a mani pedi and shellac removal. They have these really uncomfortable back massage mat things placed over the pedi chair so i found myself sitting straight up the whole time. Now this is the weird part.. I was given a BOWL of the shellac removal liquid and i was asked to put my fingers in it... If anyone has ever got shellac removed the process consists of cotton pads socked with the liquid and placed on your nails. Then they are wrapped with aluminium foil to keep them in place. - So for me to stick my whole tips of my fingers into the liquid was uncomfortable and unacceptable. My fingers felt so dry afterwards. The pedicure was average and done very quickly which in my case id rather have something take long and be done well rather than the other way around. The manicure was horrible because the nail lady had to scrape off the shellac with some instrument that is used to push cuticles back. After applying only two coats of nail polish i convinced her to give me another coat.. Drying my nails took forever. I had them under the UV light for about 5 minutes which would of been longer but they told me I could leave after grabbing my nail and patting it lightly to see if its dry. So i thought nothing of it until i left the place and looked at my nails only to see a little indent from the nail polish not drying fully. You get what you pay for at I right read more

I decided to quickly stop here to get my nails fixed since I was in the area - I removed biogel months ago and have been trying to upkeep on my own with nail polish. I've been sensitive about how badly I've been doing, so decided to risk going here. Figured maybe the rating was off since they were in a busy mall... I had a great experience and they were very friendly. I thought all was well despite a slightly painful nick in my cuticle. The day after I got shellac, my thumb shellac got gouged after simply washing dishes. It felt a bit soft all around the dent, but I decided maybe it was because I was working with my hands. It's now 3 days since I've had this done and my thumb shellac has half come off. The layer below is sticky (clearly not cured long enough.) I'm upset... Is there a polite way of saying 'they ruined my nails'? I wanted to get my nails done for a friend's wedding, so I stopped by because it was close to work. One of the ladies (I think she is the owner) convinced me that I should get gel nails though my nails were nice and long to begin with. Thinking they knew what they were doing, I trusted them to do what they needed to do with my nails. They started out by clipping my nails back, then started sanding it down with a very rough drill bit. They had sanded off most of the top layer of my nails so that the gel adheres better. The point is, it was PAINFUL!!! What is left is very brittle nails. It took at least 2-3 months for my nails to fully grow back. I was so irritated having my nails chip on me. The fact that my nails grows out pretty quickly, gel nails are no going to last on these hands. Mine grew out in about a week and I didn't want to refill them every week to close the gap. Since I really needed my nails done and this place was in the mall, I went there. I had been before and it was an okay job, so I pretty much use this place as a convenience method. If I must, I must! One girl did my toenails and did a nice job, although I loved the colour and the sticker at the bottom of it was missing, so I have no idea what colour I am wearing, should I want to use it again. The woman doing my nails wasn't as good as the woman doing my toes though. First of all she kept making comments about how small my nails are. I'm an art teacher, so having long nails is really not to my benefit, but thanks for bringing this up constantly! She was also a bit rough. She blamed it on my fingers being tensed, but honestly, they were tense because it hurt! It started becoming a vicious circle! I think that the amount of gel she put on was WAY too much. Some nails you can see the dip made in the gel. Also, I have only had them a week and I feel like they can be easily ripped off. Things keep getting caught in the edges. The colour is nice and there was a good selection of colours to choose from, but as I stated before, if you really need something done, here is great, because it's HERE, not because of what a great job they do! read more

I've been coming to the Sunshine Nail salon on and off for the past 3 years, mostly because they are close to where I live. They offer a variety of services, but I only go there for waxing, pedicure, and gel nails (if I'm desperate). The owner is Kim, a very chatty and bubbly Vietnamese lady and she's the one that does most of the facials, waxing and eyelash extensions. Their pedicure chairs have a remote control for massage features and the techs do a good job removing callouses. They have 4 pedicure chairs, but if you have a group I would suggest calling ahead. My favourite nail technician is Lydia - she takes pride in her work, takes her time and does a very good job. For regular manicures she's very good about pushing back cuticles and takes her time filing to make sure everything is the same length & shape. I wouldn't recommend Tina for manicures - she's all about speed and can be a bit rough. She once got impatient with some glitter nail polish that I had on my toes and used a Dremel rotary tool to remove it! It costs $35 for a gel nail refill, which is about what it costs everywhere else in the city - but I don't recommend you getting a reflil here unless you are desperate! The quality of the gel topcoat they use is questionable since it usually chips about 2-3 days after I get a refill there. The techs aren't properly trained in gel application so they glob it on thick and it will start to lift around the edges in about a week once your nails start growing out. For regular manicures and pedicures they use OPI and China Glaze polishes. read more

I tipped well because it seemed okay despite times where she was a bit rough. How VERY WRONG I was. My feet were hurting and I came home to discover several cuts on my toes. This was AFTER I warned her to be careful. I am now worried about infections. Note: I get my acrylics done here. I love this place and I've been going for a few months now. I just recently went to get a refill and I had a HORRIBLE time. I don't know what the lady's name is but she always wears white, short haircut and she's older than the other people that work there. She doesn't know how to use the drill properly. Clearly you can see in the pictures my cuticles are cut and the thumb has a hole in it as it was not filled properly. There was a male there that airbrushed my nails and that wasn't good either. The white is airbrushed but not evenly. You can see the blotchy areas and the clear coat did not coat the nail completely. Still, I would recommend that you come here. Just don't get that lady to do your nails. Specifically I would ask for Kelly, she's amazing! (And won't cut your cuticles) read more

Don't come here to get your eyelashes done she charged me for doing a very bad job on my eyelashes and I complained to her and she still charged me, on top of that, she glued some of my eye lashes shut and it hurt so much my eyes teared up a lot and I definitely shouldn't of paid because I'm not ever coming back here and I never recommend anyone to come here for their eyelashes. read more

I've been going to Sunshine every now and then for a couple years now. I discovered it by chance because it was so close to me and I needed a spa in Fairview. The waxing is pretty good and they do it pretty fast. The owner (I think her name is Linda?) is especially good at waxing cause she breezes through it which is perfect for me cause I'm a baby with pain. As for the nails... I wouldn't recommend!! Because they're SO busy, they usually speed so much while doing my nails that I just noticed a lot of careless mistakes that put a damper on the service. Specifically, I've gotten shellac here a couple times and 8/10 times I notice the application is very thick and gloopy. Because of how thick the application is, it often chips or peels very easily from the edges, especially once your nails grow out a bit. A few times I've also noticed actual "bubbles" and bumps in the polish! Overall not that great and you can DEFINITELY find better places for shellac!! Also, I can't help to notice the poor hygiene. A lot of the tools they've used on me haven't been clean and clearly have already been used on others prior which is just gross. read more

Since I HAVE to give a rating, 1 star is too much. Everyone here has the WORST customer service. I came here to get a shellac manicure done (I normally go to SHINY NAIL AND SPA but it was out of my way). A lady sat me down and gave me lots of colors to choose from. She came back to me shortly and asked if I'm done, I said in a nice way that I was still looking. The OWNER facing the other way, yells and says "You have to hurry up cause she is going to be busy she doesn't have time". And because her back was facing me I was kinda left clueless. I finally decided my color and she proceeded to do my nails. She DID NOT ask how short I wanted my nails, SHE DID NOT ASK how I wanted my nails shaped, SHE DID NOT compare one hand to the other to make sure it was even. I had to ask her 2 times to file it shorter, which I know annoyed her. In the end my nails were uneven and my nails are thick that my scratches are dull. She gave such a lousy massage after using CUTICLE OIL on my hands and not LOTION. NEVER COMING BACK. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS PLACE GETS BUSINESS. Oh, and there was a girl waiting for her toes to dry and she was already waiting when I got there. I assume she was getting fidgety and wanted to leave. The old lady working on me told her "why are you leaving I already told u not to" and the girl beside me accidently ruined one nail w wet polish and the girl doing her nails made it seem like it was all her fault. This place definitely deserves the reviews it gets. Made a reservation for three pedicures and the place was jammed pack by the time I got to the appointment. The people were yelling on top of each other and scrabbling around. They had customers coming in to complain about about the service, and the place was just a wreck. Prices are also quite higher than others $50 with taxes for a shellac pedicure. Whereas others would be $35. Thank goodness our pedicures turned out decent or else we would've been annoyed. Worst customer service ever!!! I have never been treated more rudely by staff who wouldn't even speak to me while I was in the salon. They just kept on their own private conversation in a foreign language and completely ignored me. I asked for a shellac manicure, but the lady doing my nails used a regular OPI top coat and when I tried to explain that it was wrong, she just said "I know, good". What?! She also didn't shape or cut my nails, hardly filed them at all, and didn't push back the cuticles or get the shellac on evenly. She pulled and yanked my hands around and didn't even speak to me to say simple things like, 'Give me your other hand', or 'Put your hand there'. The place was dirty and worst of all I noticed that they didn't sanitize the tools they used. The lady literally took something out of a drawer, used it and then threw it back in the same drawer. She did that twice...how does she know which tools are clean and which are dirty?! This was the first time in 4 years that I have paid for a manicure and I am soooooo disappointed! The end result looks rather bad and I know I could have done better myself. I don't understand how this place can still be in business. I should have read the reviews before I went there! I wish Yelp offered a negative rating because this is what they would deserve. In short this place was horrible, please save your money and time and go ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE! My flatmate and I came here on a weekend because the place we wanted to go to was fully booked, and boy was I in for a treat. Staff was extremely rude, loudly communicating with each other in Vietnamese (I'm usually fine with people speaking their native tongue with each other but this was the type that they are deliberately letting you know that they are complaining about you in front of your face), I was asked to pay BEFORE I was even given a manicure, and I reluctantly tipped 15% but I really wished I hadn't tipped at all. The person who gave me the manicure was a woman in her 40s - 50s, clearly the shop owner and kept on barking at her staff and customers alike. She was extremely rough with the cuticle cutting and when I asked her to be more gentle she said "you don't have any experience with manicure". My nails are more curved so she missed an entire section of the edge of my nail, when I pointed it out she first ignored me completely, and when I said it again SHE YELLED at me and said "I heard you, just wait". O.o She also left me after she turned on the lights and said "just press three minutes 3 times", and promptly left the station. I was shocked that I was expected to do all of these things myself. I asked the staff beside me if she will come back, and she said "shes's busy". I then asked if someone can help remove these stains left on the side of my fingers or on the ridges of my cuticle, the other staff was equally rude, she looked at my hand and said "there's nothing". At this point I was done with being nice and polite, I said that I will stay in the store until someone cleans it up, and finally my original lady came and cleaned everything up. The manicure was rushed and the result wasn't even that great, I really could have done a better job myself at home. My flatmate's nails were completely bubbly, but she was too nice to complain. Horrible customer service. I will never come here again. I went to get my eyebrows done and the lady was on the phone having a casual conversation. She didn't acknowledge my presence. I was directed to a room by another worker. She came into the room and as I proceeded to explain what I wanted she cut me off and said just lay down and I will take a look. Mind you she is still on the phone yapping away. She then proceeded to put wax on my skin without having asked if I wanted to get wax or threaded. In the middle of it, still on the phone, I try to interrupt and explain again what I wanted, but she ignored me and kept yapping and waxing away. Once she was done I looked at my eyebrows and they were horribly done. The shape was off, she took too much off on the right side and I let her know how upset I was. She then proceeded to try and argue that it was the way my hair grew. I voiced my opinion to her about her lack of customer service and how she didn't even ask me how or what I wanted done. Someone like this should not be running a store or providing a service. If she wanted to talk on the phone she should have stayed home. Save your money and go to someplace else that cares! This place is a DISASTER! Can't believe they are in business. I had my shellac removed and they totally destroyed my nails!!! I've used shellac for 2 years now and it never happened to me. The guy who was removing my old shellac doesn't speak English at all, I've tried to explain him that he is damaging my nail, but he would keep doing his thing. He removed half on my nail thickness, which i noticed after the fact. So after i pointed at that he asked some lady to replace him. She tried to fix it, but obviously she could't do anything about it, since nails were badly scratched and very thin already. She tried to convince me that it is normal, but i've done it hundreds of times and i never had such a bad removal done. Obviously i didn't want to continue and i said that i'm not paying for this HORRIBLE service. Then she called the owner to talk to me. I showed her my damaged nails and explained why exactly i'm not willing to pay for this. She also tried to make me believe that it is normal and made me pay for removal anyway. Didn't even offer any discount!!! Made me pay the full price for removal ($28.50), which is ridiculous! In fact they have to pay me for ruining my nails. That is not the way you run the business, guys! My advice - never ever go to this place! And if you wanna take your chance anyway - do not go to the male manicure guy! Her and most of the technicians that work there are extremely rude and unprofessional and do not know how to do their jobs. The only reason why they get customers is because it is the only nail place at fairview mall. Do not waste your time going there. Theres plenty of other good nail places in the area. If you are going to go there, do not go to Fong. Anh if you're reading this, maybe you should train your staff on how to speak to customers. Not only is every single nail from the new set of acrylic nails I got done completely UNEVEN (different shapes and lengths) but they are NOT even the length I asked for. They are way too short to look decent as almond shaped nails. They look ridiculous, it's almost comical. Their friendliness was satisfactory but they are not accommodating at all. They rush to get it over with. When you point out something done incorrectly, they deny it. They don't care about your comfort, getting your nails done should NOT be painful or make you bleed. I decided to get my nails done for my graduation. At the time my nails were pretty short( I prefer them this way.. I cant do anything with long nails) The lady there told me I should get gel nails. After asking them how long they last and the upkeep I decided to try them. Before giving the okay I asked about removal and they told me to come back to them when I wanted to remove them and they would do a very very careful job to take them off. I ended up going back 2 months after I got them done. It was such a huge upkeep and they just weren't for me ( They did look really really nice but I couldn't function with long nails) Anyways, I went in and told them I was there 2 months akgo and was told you could remove this carefully not to damage my nails. The lady didnt really say anything (I think she was the owner) she just pointed to a chair and had me sit down. She asked if i wanted to get a manicure with it and I said sorry not today (this seemed to have pissed her off) I could feel the tension for some reason so I said Please be careful I don't want to damage my nails. She was really rough with the removal and she ended up fucking all my nails . It has been a month 2 months since I got the nails removed and my nails are still chiping and breaking and look like shit.
