He promised and promised and promised again and agin that I will be here next week, and we are for sure starting on Monday, and give me two more weeks to finis this project, etc etc, untill it was too late in the season to start the job. Coming spring, the whole thing started again with delays and exuses. He did start working on the retaining wall May 2019 and took him 2 months to finish it. The wall looks nothing like what we agreed to, rocks have been falling off it, and it not only that does not look like the one we agreed to , but looks horible all together. My mistake was paying him the job in full before he even started, becasue he came up with some sad stiries about his family and I felt bad and wanted to help. They tried to see from the inside, but eventually went up to the roof. Twenty minutes work patching some poorly installed flashing = $400. That's $20/minute ! I've not had roofing work done before, so who knows how unreasonable that is. It seemed we were as accommodating and helpful as we could be (fetching a ladder, etc) but they seemed immature and unthankful.

We bought a foreclosure 11 years ago. While we practically stole the house (still can't believe it…read morewas in our price range!) it's been a work in progress, restoring it while addressing unfinished work. Turns out the price we paid was fair. After re-roofing the house, we had enough savings left to put a bottom coat on the barely navigable dirt driveway, with the intention to put a top coat on when we'd saved more money. During that time we developed pot holes that became craters, the pieces of which ended up on our lawn when we plowed in the winter. While other paving companies acted like this was something they'd have to seriously upcharge for, Larry took it in stride. I liked him from the minute I met him, he's an old school guy, a dying breed. Larry came within 48 hours of my first call. He was knowledgeable, seemed genuine, and was a true pleasure to talk with. He's a no-BS kind of guy, and you can tell he's good at what he does because it is a *craft* for him. The price he gave us was more than fair, and we signed right away. Within weeks he showed up *as promised* (again, old school and unusual these days) and was communicative throughout. He is very particular when it comes to what is being done, and he was often there, directing his men, sending them back if he felt something wasn't to his standards. And the workers--so polite, friendly when I engaged them, telling me in front of him that they did some extra work at the top of the driveway to make the entrance more impressive. And when it came time for the bill? It was just as we agreed upon, with no surprises. Larry returned several days later to inspect the driveway himself--he didn't send a lackey, he was there making sure it was what HE felt was a job well done. That's an old school guy for you: STANDARDS. He already had his money, but he didn't forget about us. The driveway was completed at the end of May, five months ago, and it has worn well. I cannot recommend Larry and Sorenson Paving enough. Support local, small businesses with honest owners!!

New England Landscape and Design has been our go-to for various yard and home needs for the past…read moreten years or so. We have always been happy until this point. Our sprinkler servicing company closed during COVID, so we had New England Landscape and Design winterize our sprinklers in November 2021. According to my husband, he asked the owner if he needed to get into the house to access the water shut-off and was told no. Yesterday we opened the sprinkler lines to find an exterior pipe had burst in the winter due to improper winterization. According to the owner, my husband told him the water was shut off and he didn't need to come in the house. Classic case of two differing stories, but knowing we have always had someone come in the house to do this task, I know my husband wouldn't have said this. I emailed the owner a video of the broken pipe and he claimed several times my husband told him the inside was taken care of. He is unwilling to fix or even work with us to rectify this mistake. I was looking for a compromise and go nothing. Additionally, he brought up that he felt this was the "gutters all over again." I had forgotten about that, but his team was a week and a half late to clean our gutters. I inquired about them coming from my office one day and learned they were in the middle of cleaning our gutters when I inquired. I didn't know that because I wasn't home. My gutter inquiry must have unknowingly struck a nerve, because the owner reminded me of the gutters today when I was trying to work with him to come up with a resolution. Now I am stuck paying for a plumbing repair for his mistake. His customer service attitude is terrible, and he isn't taking responsibility to make things right. Beware. I am disappointed because we have always been pleased up until this point and have recommended this company to many others in town. But, his callous behavior today has changed our minds and we will be warning others about this company from here on out. Update: We have contacted three sprinkler companies since I filed this initial review to fix the broken valve and look into installing a backflow preventer. Each person stated that it is protocol and common knowledge for anyone to turn on outside faucets once they are done blowing out the line to ensure there is no water in the line. Had they done this we would not have had a broken valve because they would have realized the water wasn't turned off inside. Each person also told us backflow preventers are typically installed inside and indeed, we had our new sprinkler person verify and locate our backflow preventer, so NE Landscape inaccurately told us our system wasn't to code. They were correct that no one takes responsibility for their actions. A simple "Gee, your husband I misunderstood each other! What can we do to come up with a solution?" would have solved the problem when I first approached them with this. Instead, they refused to take any fault and continued to blame the customers over and over. Then they brought up something about the gutters that we had no recollection of. I recalled that they supposedly scheduled us for gutter cleaning on 11/1 and they came instead on 11/11. We didn't see the crew when I texted them and then apologized that they were there and we hadn't seen them. We were happy customers of theirs for years and are disappointed in their demeanor and business response. It's too bad, because we are about to install a huge retaining wall in the back and were going to have them do the job. Attitude is everything, and we are not pleased with their approach to this situation at all. Others in their industry have all said they made the mistake by not checking the faucets before they left last fall after blowing out the lines. We paid $200 for someone to fix their mistake and still, they are being unprofessional about the situation and taking zero responsibility.
