Saha - Esscence of plum

Saha

I was looking for a special night out in Hamilton (something I'd never had to do in the past) and…read moremy research took me to an Airbnb experience that was this hidden gem. I'd never experienced anything like Saha in the past (the closest thing would be Urban Acorn Catering) but what Chef Khalil does with Saha is run a pop up restaurant at his own place in Hamilton that serves up a top of the line Middle Eastern Tasting Menu that he makes and plays host along with his lovely wife. We had a 5 course tasting menu, but with Chef Khalil being so fantastic, we ended up with a total of 9 wonderful courses (10 if you count the Arabic coffee to finish). Left feeling very full and just blown away at this delicious and wonderfully intimate experience. I won't go in to very detailed descriptions of the courses, but in all honesty every single one was a highlight, it was very difficult to pick a favourite, for me it was probably the Halibut, with Arabian tapenade that also had crispy chicken skin, I don't think I've ever had a fish dish topped with chicken and it was amazing! The feast for the eyes was definitely his dessert, a pomegranate mouse surrounded by cardamom meringues! Those 2 dishes looked amazing but tasted even better!! Red meat is my least favourite thing to eat, so I appreciated the rib of lamb not being massive, and appreciated it even more that it was a medium rare delight! What really made this evening special was the ambiance that Chef Khalil and his wife sets in their living room, a small intimate space perfect for a romantic night with a nice tall table candle and Arabic music to go with it. Throughout the evening chef would keep checking on us to make sure everything was going great, and talk about the dish we were about to have. He makes everything in house, which really blew me away, considering it was just for 2 of us and he makes such a large variety of dishes! It is BYOW, and I'm glad I messaged him beforehand to ask for his recommendation for what type of wine to bring along, since even my clumsy selection of wine worked out great thanks to his suggestion. While I found Saha through Airbnb I would recommend people just go to it via his regular website to get more info and make reservations too (cheaper than Airbnb).Chef Khalil hopes to open Saha as an intimate restaurant in Toronto next year, and I don't think there is anyone else doing a middle eastern tasting menu, but even compared to the tasting menus of O&B and the momofuku's in the world, Saha truly holds up, and I can't recommend this pop up version enough, especially for the price of close to $100/person (or less if you opt for fewer courses) it's truly a steal! I wish him and his wife the best moving forward!

Stumbled upon here as I was searching for hidden gems. It's a shame more people don't know about this kitchen. Came in on a Saturday night around 7pm. Ordered the Blackened shrimp po boy and the Szechuan Udon with shrimp which has noodles stir fried & tossed with veggies in a spicy Szechuan inspired sauce. Both were tasty. Seasoned beautifully. Had lovely colored and delivered with every bite. Honestly it was so good that two hours later I came back and ordered food for my family. They licked the plate clean. I got them the Creole Seafood Eggrolls and the southern fried shrimp po boy. There's a few seats outside the restaurant but most people take it to go it looks like. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Slide thru. It won't disappoint. Plus it's Black owned. Bonus info! If you don't wanna order in person you can get it with grubhub, door dash, and other delivery platform

Are you ready for a journey combining cuisine from East and West that will tantalize your taste…read morebuds and make you want more? Than look no further than Far East Bayou! We were looking for cajun food and stumbled upon this hidden gem. When I say hidden, its hidden tucked inside an old industrial building (with zero street signage) that now houses a bunch of pop up culinary surprises. On the second floor tucked in the back corner you will find Far East Bayou. This casual take out restaurant, is a fusion of Southern New Orleans and Korean flavors. The chef was extremely friendly and ready to take us down his culinary journey down the bayou. I ordered a bunch of different dishes for my husband and I to sample: Shrimp Bo Poy - blackened, shrimp po boy- fried, crab hush puppies and honey cajun udon noodles. Everything was extremely flavorful! The sauces were out of this world. They had a nice spice on them. Not a spice that sets your mouth on fire, but spice that is flavorful and enhances everything else on the plate. The fried shrimp was super crispy and the cornmeal breading was perfectly seasoned. My only complaint is the preparation of the shrimp. The shrimp are prepared with their tails on, which made it difficult to eat. We had to dig through the sauces and toppings to find each shrimp and pull the tails off . I learned the owner makes his own kimchi, which is made using more spices and vegetables and less fish. He allowed me to sample some, and I will be dreaming about this kimchi tonight! I will definitely be coming back to try their rotating specials menu, and grab some more kimchi!

I ordered 2 tacos, the Touchy Feely ground turkey marinated in a red sauce and the 5 Star taco which was Cajun marinated grilled chicken. My husband ordered the All-America cheeseburger eggroll. Chef Josey does magical things with egg rolls. Think cinnamon roll egg roll! Didnt get that today but its one of her specialties. It's a toss up which taco I liked best but think I'll go either the 5 star. I loved the creole sauce. Both were good size and very filling plus all the meat was freshly cooked as we stood there. Besides good food, both Chef Josey and Alena are super friendly and fun to talk to. Do yourself a favor and check them out!. 2023-20

We decided to not cook tonight and grab something local since fast food didn't sound great. We decided to order from SZN since they just reopened yesterday and it sounded really good! Chef Josey is a master in the kitchen with how these tacos turned out. We got two birria tacos, two five star tacos, and a Cinnabon eggroll. Everything was so delicious that it didn't last on the plate very long. Do yourself a favor and order from SZN soon. They usually sell out pretty quick!

There were twelve people for a 6 course vegan menu. While the menus aren't always 100% vegan, they can do a full vegan option at any of their pop-ups if you provide advance notice. It's a pop-up, so the only food there will be what is being served to the small group. The courses are spaced out so you have a chance to talk with the other diners and meet new people. Everyone sits together at one table. All meals are gluten free and BYOB, so feel free to bring wine to share or beverages for yourself. The meal was thoughtful and vegetable forward. There's nothing like this in Buffalo, but lots of places serving food like this in bigger cities - Chicago, Philadelphia, NYC, LA. Do yourself a favor and let Chef Claire wow you with vegetables and other plant-based foods where the animal products, if any, just play a supporting role. Eat better.
