You could stand if you wanted and help raise the sails if you wanted to. They provide us with a bottle of water or soda and a bag of chips. However, you could also take your own snacks onto the boat including liquor if you so desired. It was a 2 hours sailing trip and we left and returned within that time frame. The boat held about 20 folks and our tour was full but still plenty of room to not feel crowded. It was nice to sail out of the harbor through a canal lined with homes as we reached Lake Michigan. That part of the trip took about 20-25 minutes each way leaving about an hour to be on the lake. Once we were on the lake is when the crew with the help of various patrons raised the sails. However, we had very little wind so we really never sailed. Which for me made the trip a little boring. It would have been nice actually feel like you were sailing as a posed to just siting on the water drifting. We were maybe a mile off shore and the boat captain did tell us some history of a city that was discovered buried under the sand dunes in that area. The parking is close with bathrooms between the parking lot and the dock. So very easily accessible. Parking was free.

Also, it was a very warm night so the breeze and cooler temps on the lake were pretty perfect. The crew was exceptional and was willing to engage in conversation if that's what you were looking for, but this is not really a tour... more of an experience and an opportunity to see the beauty of Lake Michigan and the Michigan shore. I would recommend this to anyone who can handle a little bit of adventure on the water.

Definitely hold on to your hats/loose items! We saw two young fawns in the woods which was a highlight of the tour. We prefer not knowing our next door camper neighbor's business. I was looking for a campground to stay at for the weekend. But, every public campground was booked till October. I happened to stubble on Kal-Haven Outpost in a google search and this place was way better than I expected. The owners are a young couple who juggle their business and their little children simultaneously. But, they do their best being focused and attentive to their customer. They answer all my questions and always return phone calls (when I attempted to call them and they were busy). Our spot was in a wooded area and was about 50-75 feet away from the next door campers. Our campsite had a fire ring, tent area and picnic table. The bathhouse is accessible for everyone staying at Kal-Haven. The bathrooms were extremely clean and awesome. So much nicer than any other campgrounds I have stayed at. And there are very nice showers with a bench and hooks for hanging clothes and towel. I would recommend this place to everyone in a heartbeat! New, clean and nicest place ever! And I love the office/store/gift shop!

It was quiet and we couldn't hear anyone in neighboring rooms. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. We had a standard king room on the second floor. Check-in was easy and our front door overlooked the pool. I don't think the pool was open when we were there because it was still chilly outside. It was a great experience, but frankly it was just a bummer that it felt like the entire space was geared towards gay men rather than queer PEOPLE as a whole. As a queer woman, I just wish it had felt like I was represented too, but it's okay cause not every space is for me! I also don't know if it's the norm, but the bar was pretty empty for a Saturday night which just didn't give the vibe for dancing I was hoping for. All the staff were so kind and helpful. Would totally stay here again if needed/staying in the area and would recommend to someone who is curious! I don't think I'd seek it out independently just because I live in Grand Rapids and it's only about 45 minutes away and again, feels like the vibe is more focused on men.

I thought it was awesome that everyone around us stayed up super late sitting around the campfires singing, cooking, and drinking. My husband and I stayed in an A frame cabin which was adorable and had a big private fire pit with chairs all around it. Only draw back was it didn't have any AC. We got lucky and the nights were cool. My in-laws stayed in on of the large pines and they had an AC unit. At $75 a night you can't go wrong. I am definitely planning on coming back here again with a big group of friends next spring.
