We rented two Motel Rooms this last weekend in South Haven for two nights for our family. The…read moretotal cost for a Friday and Saturday Night was just under $1,000.00. I rented here because the reviews online that I had read were better than good, but when I really dug into other review sites once I returned home, other than where I booked from, I found a completely different story. I want to make sure that there is a fair recommendation out there for people to really make up their mind on whether or not they should stay here. First, I do want to mention that the owners were very polite to us and we have no issue with them. Also, there is a charm to these old-style motel rooms including the beautiful tile in the bathrooms. Additionally, there are new entry doors with digital locks as well as new windows. And true, this place is serene and great if you like peace and quiet - but still, there are many additional things to take into consideration. Although the rooms appear nice in the pictures, there are still issues like water damaged ceilings, water damaged bathroom doors, leaky tub fixtures (which were also way out of date and require replacing), drywall that needs to be retaped and mudded as well as a musty smell to the rooms that don't show up in pictures. One of the two rooms had bugs, but not because the room was dirty and I'm not talking cock roaches, just bugs. The reason? The wall air conditioner is not sealed on the sides and bugs get in through the outside vent, and then through the side panels that are not sealed against the air conditioner. There were also some inconsistencies like one of the rooms had a microwave, one didn't. One had information about your stay, one didn't. There is no coffee maker or ironing board in the room, but you could ask at the front desk to use these items (listed in the information about the room) we did not, we might have used these items had they been in the room, but since it was not readily available, we just made other arrangements. Again, I really want to be fair here - but these basic amenities plus others like ice were not available to us. Additionally, there was no pool, there was no breakfast. The thing that is really agitating and I think that is important for travelers to know is that there is NOTHING here that justifies the room rates and just because it is in South Haven doesn't justify the price. The weekend before and as a part of this trip, we stayed in a Comfort Inn and Suites that had a nice, comfortable, up to date room, with an indoor pool and included breakfast for $120.00 per room per night in the Wisconsin Dells. For what I paid at Jensen's, it feels like we stayed in a dump.

The app was awesome because it made it so easy to see all the crafts, activities, and events happening throughout the day, so we never felt like we were missing out. The campground itself was well cared for. The pool was clean, the showers were nice, and I can't even explain how much we appreciated the air conditioned bathrooms after being outside in the summer heat. One of our favorite little surprises was the cartoons at night. It was such a simple, nostalgic touch that made the evenings feel special... even if the young staff had a battle figuring out the DVD player. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the flies. OMG... there were SO many flies that it made hanging around our campsite pretty miserable at times. It was also pretty expensive for a tent site. That said, when you factor in everything that's included for kids, I can definitely see where the value comes from. We'd absolutely come back, just with a lot more bug spray next time!

Amenities that are free, like the pool and two jump pads, are in good condition. Loved that the pool has a zero entry for younger kids. Activities you could pay extra for were unique. My kids favorite thing was actually the large playground right by our site. They probably spent the most time there! Convenient that the campground is only 10-12 minutes away from downtown South Haven and South Beach (they have lifeguards!). Three Blondes Brewing and Admiral Jack's were the restaurants we went to and highly recommend.

Normally we would be greeted by the innkeeper, but this year, we were greeted by an employee who showed us the room and said the book on the bed would tell us everything we needed to know. We saw the innkeeper only in the kitchen in the AM when we were to go in to tell her our breakfast choice. After that the only way to communicate was to use the phone on the kitchen island. The room was dusty and the furniture well-worn with buttons on the stuffed chairs hanging on by a thread. The bed was uncomfortable. The breakfasts were basic and the same each day. There was a Kerig coffee machine without any K-Cups. There were crumbs on a covered cake stand for 2 days, without refreshing. The only way for the room to be cleaned was to request it either in person or by phone. The reason given for this policy was that it was for our privacy. Privacy and cleaning policies are not mutually exclusive. The screened- in porch was a beautiful spot to relax or have breakfast in the past. It was less welcoming this time. The only plants were dead hanging Boston Ferns, no placemats anywhere and no other decor. You can find pictures of the previously decorated porch online. The once award winning garden was neglected and overgrown. We have stayed at lots of inns and B & Bs in the MIdwestern region. and have never been more disappointed. I hope positive conditions return to The Yelton Manor. It was a pleasure to visit there in the past.

Breakfast way just okay, nothing really special. We have been to other B&Bs where breakfast was a real pleasure. The innkeeper was rather stand off-ish and I heard her speak rather rudely to some other guests. She did not go out of her way to get to know guests or make us feel particularly welcome. I was…read moreon a visit from Texas and we planned the last few days of my trip to visit there and partake in some fun shopping. My sister and her husband were there years before and had a nice experience. We drove from West Bloomfield which was a two hour straight shot. The parking was easily accessible. The inn is quaint and cozy. We felt welcomed, but there are a few things that Jan, the innkeeper, should note. The interior is very nice, but needs better upkeeping. The room that we were in seemingly had a quick slight over easy "hit or miss" cleaning. The furniture had not been dusted and there were many dust bunnies in the corners of the room. The shower took 10 minutes to get warm. I had taken one at night. The bathroom rug needs to be replaced. It was more of a loose old carpeted rug which can harbor bacteria and didn't seem to have been washed. A better recommendation will be the foam sponge Clara Clark type bathroom mat to use. The toiletries need to be replaced every time new guests arrive if they have been used. There were two bottles of shampoo that were half used remaining there. We didn't touch those. I do not drink tap water and hotels always have at least two complimentary bottles of water. I asked Jan if she had any bottled water and she did not. I had to resort to getting regular water from her refrigerator dispenser. Even a couple of the small 4-6 ounces of bottled water in the guest room would have sufficed. We sat on the back porch prior to breakfast which was a very opened and relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast we had that Monday morning was somewhat continental. The fruit was farm fresh, the coffee and juices were delicious, and her pastry of an apple French toast roll was very nice, but there was no protein. We were looking forward to scrambled eggs to say the least. Protein should be included in the breakfasts. During mid afternoon we saw baggies with chopped up pieces of granola inside. I took a bag in the evening and had to throw the granola away because it was stale. The inn is conveniently located in town. Just walk a few steps and you're welcome to visit most of the shops. A few were closed on both Sunday and Monday. The waterfront is in walking proximity as well. The boat ride adventure was very nice and the restaurants' cuisines were scrumptious. We managed to go to the Douglas Beach, but could not partake in the water because it was too cold, but it was very beautiful. I only saw one picture for the review prior to my input. I have attached a few additional pics. I noticed some people commented about the folks working at The Inn of Saugatuck with emphasis on the innkeeper. Jan was cordial, nice, slightly standoffish, but we figured for some reason that was her personality. She was not rude whatsoever. All in all the visit was very nice, but for the recommended reasons above I am giving four out of five stars. I would not hesitate to visit The Inn of Saugatuck again.
