Seeing as there are no reviews for this beach, y'all Michiganders be gatekeeping!…read more That ends now because pure Cove might be one of the best beaches along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, that I experienced during my visit and something I know many many people would love too. The tricky part about Pier Cove is that there are only 10 parking spaces, which is why the Westside beach just up the highway is a bit more popular. I'm here to tell you that if you time it right, you will find a spot and with it, one of the nicest beaches around. Pier Cove is known as the rock hunting Beach where over years Lake Michigan has deposited and revealed geological marbles that you can find and collect. The shoreline is riddled with rocks, but you do have to do some digging to find the lightning stones and other more interesting, unique, rare and exciting natural creations. Spending a little time here you'll notice the regular locals come down with long handled sieves they used to dig in the sand and then wash it out in the water to see what they found. When we visited, we went old school and just got on her hands and knees and dug deep, and our efforts were rewarded with a few of the fabled lightning stones. If Rock hunting is not your thing, this shoreline is just stunning. It's lush and green with sugary sand and actual waves lapping against it. You can stare down it for miles or walk. And I'm like most beaches there's no shade here so bring your own. Be sure to cool off in the glimmering waters of Lake Michigan.
