As of today, it appears to be closed. Maybe forever, not sure, but I think Covid did them in. Before Covid, it was a great place to relax, enjoy a glass or two of their very good wine! Purchased some of their wines, a few wine glasses (which I still use) and went about my business. Wish we could get them to return and start again, but owning and running a winery is just too expensive to even think about. Sunset Winery is a fun and informative winery south of Fort Worth. I have seen the sign off I35 for some time and I finally checked them out. I found a Groupon on-line for a Tour and Tasting for 2 at a good price. Made reservation for a Saturday afternoon. They are located right off interstate 35 in a little house. They have a small vineyard in the back. Not a fancy winery it is laid back casual. Kind of like 2 guys just making wine out of their house. Actually it is 2 guys making wine in their house. The tasting is done in the dining room next to the kitchen. You will get to sample a few of their wines whites and reds around 7 samples. They will tell you all about the wine. You can buy the wines also. They also give you some food to pair with the wines. The wine was very good some taste better than others. Everyone has their own opinions. Then you will take a tour of the place and the 2 guys running the place will tell you all about how they make the wines. The tour was a little long about 2 and half hours. They like to tell stories about their wines. The Groupon included a photo they will take and put it on a bottle of wine for the cost of their wine. That was very fun I had to buy that. We had a good time worth the time. And drink some wine. read more

I purchased a couple vouchers from Travelzoo to the Sunset Winery for a tour for my friends and myself. I booked an afternoon in the spring for about 12 people. Everyone had a great time and stayed way past the tour to drink some of the wines we had purchased after the tasting. The wines are bad and some have actually won some medals. Great accolades. The owner and staff are as sweet as can be and are very accommodating. We had a large group but that did not keep them from providing great service with a smile. They answered all of our questions, gave a great history of the winery and gave us plenty of space where we could take pictures and just have a good time. The tour did not come with a tasting but the owner offered us a deal with the Travelzoo. We were able to taste all the wines for $5 and if we purchased two wines from the tasting menu the fee was waived. Most of the wines from the tasting menu were 20% off so everyone purchased some wine to take home. I agree with Deborah D where she says that the parking is limited and the curb appeal could be improved. I think if they got some more support they'd be able to update and tend to the grounds a little bit better. The patio is great but you'd have to go through an awkward hallway behind the employee counter to get there if you came through the front door. Also, there is only one restroom and if you are sitting on the patio you'd have to go through the employee entrance behind the counter again to get to the restroom. So the layout could be worked on as well. The winery has lots of events throughout the year. The employees told us that they have Potlucks every third Friday of the month. They do provide food but you are welcome to bring a dish since it is a Potluck. Also, they have a small little stomping barrel where every Halloween they have a Lucky lookalike contest and fill the barrel for contestants to stomp grapes like they do in the wine episode. If you want to experience picking grapes, they let volunteers help and do not charge. Some wineries charge customers for this experience. Sign up for their newsletter and get more information on all of their events. I can't say that this is the best winery that I've been to in Texas but is is charming in its own way. I have no complaints about the wines. There are some decent wines and a few great ones. However, I would absolutely not recommend paying for the tour. The winery is an awkward old house with narrow hallways and it isn't something you would want to pay for-- it's a waste of money. This tour is nothing like what you would get at other texas wineries or in California.. On top of it, it doesn't include the tasting fee and there's no discounts If you buy a bottle or multiples. The property is very simplistic. The couple who own it are very nice and welcoming but the concept of this winery is probably the strangest I've encountered. read more

Do yourself a favor and don't miss this little gem. Despite the appearances, these folks make some very tasty wines. I wasn't too sure about this little winery when I drove up. It just looks like a little house with some grape vines out back, but I'm glad I stopped. It was a Sunday afternoon and I was the only one there when I arrived, although a few others came in for tastings while I was there. Tastings are $5 for 6 wines and if you like what you taste, a glass is $5. Bottle prices are very reasonable as well. I tend to like sweeter or full bodied wines, but I think there is something here for everyone. I especially liked their Acai berrry wines. They are one of the first wineries in the US to make wine with Acai. They have a dry (Seco) and a sweet (Doce). The Seco reminds me of a very smooth Chianti, and the Doce is just plain yummy. As to their other wines (which are also very tasty), all of the grapes come from Texas. They grow Spanish Black grapes on site, and all of their other grapes come from west Texas where the days are hot and the nights are cool. You will probably be offered a tour of the winery from the owners, Bruce and Birgit Anderson. Take them up on it. They have converted the home where they raised their children into a very unique winery. Bottling takes place in the kitchen and the grapes are fermented in the old dining room, but everything is very modern and sterile. They have pot luck events here a couple of times a month and I'm looking forward to going back. Down side...the parking is a bit limited and they could do a little more to improve the curb appeal and to make it a little more obvious that this is a winery. All in all, the great deck out back, the tasty wines, and the very friendly owners and staff make up for any short comings. Stop in...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

Very disappointed. We went with a friend who is a member of their wine club. Started off great, the lady indicated we would all receive 20% off all bottles of wine since our friend was a member. Fantastic! At the end I purchased 4 bottles, another person in our group purchased 3 bottles, and my friend who is a member purchased a case. Well, they did not add the 20% discount as mentioned. I asked about it, and the young girl indicated very shortly "NO, that is for members only. She misinformed you, sorry." We purchased well over $600 worth of wine and they would not adhere to the 20% discount. I would have gone again, AND would have brought new friend, however due to the way the discount was handled ( very rudely ) I will not be going back. Left a bad taste in my mouth, very unprofessional, bad business. read more

We found this little gem via Groupon and it was a wonderful treat. The owners are knowledgeable and friendly - you'll enjoy an intimate wine experience. Tastings are inexpensive - $1/wine (and deals for multiple tastes). The wines aren't too pricy but are a delicious treats. They have great community events - Fourth of July, bottling parties, harvest, etc. They also support the local community. Don't miss this Texas gem. The folks who own this winery are nice. They greet you with a friendly smile and will give you a great tour of the wine making process. Unfortunately, it is still TX wine and to me, TX winemakers try too much to emulate the French style. Whites are better than reds as they are allowed to be a bit sweeter. read more

I have never ever had such a horrible wine tasting experience. Every sample we were given (and paid for) smelled like chemical cleaning agents or paint thinner and tasted even worse. The lady serving us was very nice and definitely confident in their "award winning" product. As for us, not so much. read more

We attended the July Italiian Dinner wine meal and tasting .The menu said Chicken Scampi with lemon and garlic wine sauce The pasta was served cold with no visible sauce and dry over cooked chicken breast. Don't ask for more than 1 piece of small garlic toast to have with your wine because you are told you get more bread with your meal. Don't hold your breath waiting because it wasn't quality bread product. To cap it off the owner left in middle of wine tasting and guy pouring if asked about the wines said " It is from Italy." Save your money and go to your local wine store for better experience. read more

I purchased a guided wine tour for two via Groupon. I have to say that I was quite disappointed. The wine was so-so. The tour it's self was lacking. And the food was not particularly exciting...we had microwavable pizzas. I can't say it was worth my money or the drive. read more

I took my parents to Sunset last weekend because of the reviews and was pretty disappointed. The term "winery" should be used loosely. It is a small house that makes and sells overpriced wine. My expectation was that it might be a quaint/boutique business, but the lawn and surroundings are not well kept and you're truly just sitting on someone's back porch drinking mediocre wine. We opted for the 6-wine tasting and experienced one good wine of the bunch (I think - the pours were stingy so tasting was limited). The best one I can recommend is the Cabernet. But you'll have to drop $27 on it if you want to take it home. In truth, the folks that run it seem nice and the wine was okay, but there is nothing else to recommend this as a planned excursion. read more

an absolute GEM! i was a little nervous when we full pulled up -- it doesn't look like it is a winery. but it is in fact a fully functioning, completely legit winery. owned by the sweetest couple who know their stuff, it is an impressive place! i was so impressed by how they taught themselves how to make wine -- and make it delicious! my favorite was the acai seco, the cabernet sauvignon, and the merlot. I went with my husband it was a fun romantic way to get away from the norm. We also loved having our picture taken for the wine bottle and opted to purchase the cab. sauvignon. i learned so much and the experience was so great, i cannot wait to go back. read more

This is an adorable place and a wonderful experience. The staff and owners truly make you feel at home (it's actually in their old home) and give you great deals. I can't say that I loved all of their wines, but that's just because I tend to like sweet wines best, but they do have a good variety of ALL types, so there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy here! The orange muscat and vivid are in my opinion the best! Sure, the parking and the layout of the place are a little odd, but it was their own home at one point after all! They've done a pretty impressive job converting it and that's what gives this winery a certain charm. PLUS I am so appreciative that they use ONLY 100% Texas grapes in their wines. All of their wines have the GoTexan symbol on the label. So go try it out and support Texas businesses, you won't regret it! read more

I purchased a Groupon for two and took a friend. We both thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Sunset Winery! From the owners, Birgit & Bruce, to the workers, everyone was very professional and nice. Even though as someone mentioned before, some of the areas were very close quarters, I didn't mind it at all. That's what made it a unique experience. Not some over commercialized winery that a 'tour guide' gives you. They showed and shared a pride and joy that was so authentic. I too have been to larger ones however, there is no comparison and I mean that positively. Would definitely go back and would recommend it to others! There were 12 people on the tour, some people knew each other, however the environment was very conducive to meeting 'strangers' & discussing the wine. We were able to taste the wine and they provided small servings of food. Now don't expect to go there and get full off of the food but it was nice to have something during the wine tasting. read more
