I needed a piece of tempered glass to replace a window that had been broken. I measured twice / three times / four times, then showed up at Sunset Glass to order the tempered glass. They do not do tempered glass in-house, but rather have to send their orders to a third party. I ordered on a Monday and was promised the glass by Wednesday. And then two days later - Wednesday morning - I got a call saying that the glass was in and I could come pick it up. When I showed up, the glass was ready and I loaded it into my car and headed out. My fixer from 1912 had and original window with broken glass in it. I was worried that I will never be able to get it properly fixed, but I didn't want to completely give up on it. So the day came and I got the window out and called sunset glass if they can handle such project. The gentleman on the phone said no problem and that I can bring it in the same day. I dropped it off around 11 am and it was ready by 3.30 the same day. The glass is fixed, the window looked better than any time in the last I don't know how many years. I paid $85 with tax only. I actually had a great experience the first time in PreCovid times using for our kitchen remodel by getting tempered glass for the cabinetry. This was in 2019 and the older women we worked with were very knowledgeable and spot on with responses. This included the review of glass types to the actual installation, which looks great in the kitchen. This year we wanted to update the glass in a double panel door, and understanding Covid protocols we had phone conversations, measurement texts, door photos, and two visits to the shop to see and select the tempered glass. We had every intention of using Sunset again, but.....this time we had an unseasoned and in my opinion, inexperienced sales person. From the times of having to repeat information to her and explaining that our door was double paned, to the wildly variable pricing of glass and install cost varying from $500 all the way to $1,100 was just absurd. We had just dropped off the door after settling on the standard frosted glass when the young salesperson called us back to say the cost would now be the highest price of $1,100....what was annoying is I gave her a range of our budget which was completely dismissed. Long story short we now will pick up the door and not proceed with Sunset Glass. We can buy a new door at 1/4 price. So much for wanting to support local business. read more

I want to thank these guys for treating me like a celebrity! Went here seeking to have new screen material installed in a bunch of screen doors -- my house, which has a beautiful view, has 8. I loaded them in my car, but had to park down the block, so I went in to inquire before lugging any over. I was interested in learning what kinds of high-visibility screening they offered. The front door appears to be permanently locked, with a hand-written sign saying to go around the corner and enter through the garage. One of the guys double-parked outside the garage in question -- seemed like a tradesman picking up windows to install -- was kind enough to tell me I had to go inside the garage and find the guy behind the counter. This is when the celebrity experience began! In a cage elevated above floor level -- think Louie De Palma (Danny DeVito) from 'Taxi' -- the guy says "What do you need?" I've gone to Sunset Glass on three separate occasions and each time the service has been great and the prices are fair. I've had them 1) replace a screen, 2) Order a replacement spring, 3) Repair a double pane window where the seal had failed. And by the way many of the new windows have some latches in the side tracks which you can extend outwards to remove the pane as you open it. Difficult to describe but super easy to do so check YouTube. Once you have the pane out, bring it to Sunset Glass and they'll fix you up! read more

I dropped a slider from my dual-pane kitchen window this past Sunday and needed the panes replaced. It's an IWC brand so the next morning I called HQ in Stockton and they referred me to Chu Supply Inc. (on Lawton). They told me I had to drop it off for measurements, couldn't leave it there, bring it back in two weeks when the glass was ready, and it'd cost me ~$100. Well, that seemed silly that I couldn't leave it there, SO, I called Sunset Glass. Sunset told me if I got the glass in that morning, it could be ready the next day. I ended up dropping it off Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning I got the call that it was ready. Everyone I dealt with was super friendly and helpful. The best part... it cost me $85 out the door. Took an entire month to get a window replaced. After the initial assessment they took a week to even order the glass. The first time they came out to fix it, they broke the glass and had to re-order. The second time they came, the glass was the wrong size. I've had to call them at least 6 times and left at least 4 voicemails with Eric and reception. Eric is rude, unapologetic and unresponsive. They charged me full price despite all their screw-ups ($425) Ridiculous. Listen to Yelp and use someone else. Not worth the headache. read more

Everyone at Sunset Glass is very helpful and polite. We have ordered a lot of glass from them, and they are always happy and willing to help, come out and measure. Today Wayne dropped some glass off for us and carefully went over the directions to my construction workers on how to secure and assemble the glass the correct way. He must have spent over 15 mins answering questions and making sure they would do it the correct way. I don't really get why there are so many reviews saying negative things about Sunset Glass. I've used them twice, once for a shelf and once for a table top, and both times my experience has been great. Susie is super nice and extremely helpful and the work was perfectly to my specifications both times. I will always use them for my glass needs. Considering how incredibly personable Susie was with me every time we interacted, I have to wonder about anyone who claims she was "rude" to them. We were in the middle of a renovation and needed a very large solarium style window build quickly. I contacted them and a long 3 days later they requested photos be emailed. I did and waited a few more days. They emailed that they wanted me to take measurements and email it back to them so they could give an estimate. I was incredulous and asked if they really wanted me to do the measurements as opposed to sending someone to actually look at the window. A few days later they email back yes that is how they do it. I'm a bit surprised by the low ratings since my experience was pretty good. I needed a glass table topper to protect my salvaged wood table that was delivered recently. We had been eating at the kitchen counter so the table stayed pristine until we could cover it. I requested an estimate through the website and received a prompt response from Eric. I also contacted a couple other glass companies but never received a response. I kind of knew what I wanted but I had to defer to their expertise. I strongly suggest asking for their opinion, which is easiest over the phone. I asked for a beveled edge when I really only wanted the edges smoothed. When I called to give my deposit I was able to straighten this out. The lady who answered the phone was really helpful and she figured out what I was looking for. (She also saved me some money since the beveled edge is more expensive!) I am very happy with my purchase and can finally use my table. I like small shops as they take your work more seriously. Sunset glass is exactly that... They have always gotten to my calls and get back to me, even if your project is small. Ive read the negative reviews, and they seem to be coming form one source or prompted by one source.... That is too bad... I needed a shower door replaced and came to Yelp looking for someone to help. After reading the reviews for Sunset Glass I initially chose NOT to call them. What a mistake that was! Instead, I tried to go through Home Depot which turned out to be a big run around - lots of phone calls, them getting my requests wrong, two visits to the store and a 5-7 week turn around with their vendor. Waste of time. With only one bathroom I was very eager to get the shower fixed and couldn't imagine having to wait almost two months to get a new door. I always try to support my neighborhood businesses and wish I'd made my first phone call to these guys. When I finally did call, Eric told me he'd be over in an hour to look at my shower. Wow!! He did indeed come right over and he brought his tools to remove the shattered and now very dangerous shower door. He took the time to remove the door and clean up all the pieces of shattered glass, this was a very old pre-tempered glass door. He told me he'd order a new door and be over in few days to install it. Fast! Plus, he is so nice! He told me that his grandfather started the business in 1940 and I love the fact that it's still family run. I would highly recommend Sunset Glass. Not sure why other reviewers had bad experiences. I'm sure this is also a case of satisfied customers not taking time to write a positive review. I know I'm more prone to write about bad experiences but I definitely wanted to make sure to give a these guys a review they deserve. The lady who answered the phone responded that it is not something they did. I said thanks and was ready to continue my search, when she kept talking. Not only did she take the time to explain to me the difference between what they did and what I was looking for, she also gave me two references that I could look into. Really refreshing and helpful attitude. Most places I called so far just told me they don't do it without so much as a superficial "sorry." Honestly, I think at first it did sound a little like lecturing -- she was quite insistent sounding. But hey, I don't know a thing about window tinting and she took the time and energy to educate me. We have used Sunset Glass through the years which is the only reason for a 2 rating. We had used them in July to replace a window with no problem. That was then, this is now: I first called October 13th for a simple replacement of mirrored glass doors on a medicine cabinet. I was told the (apparently only one) person who schedules would call me back, probably the following day. No call that Friday, nor the following Monday. When I followed up on 10/18 the rather impatient woman who answered the phone had no record/knowledge of the first call. I re-explained what was required & got an earful about how busy they were, but someone would call me. It is now 10/24 & you guessed it, no call. After consulting Yelp, I called Glassall - they will be out tomorrow morning. Sorry, Sunset - don't know how you can be so busy when you ignore customers bringing you business. Great service, i called at 2:30 and asked for a replacement for a broken sliding window. They quoted me $70, i asked if i dropped it off same day if they would be able to finish it and he said yeah. I dropped it off and picked it back up at 4:30 and it was done. It wasn't the cheapest place, but it wasn't the most expensive. The price range was from $50 (didn't want to drive all the way downtown) to $130 Highly recommended with great customer service. I would definitely use their service again. UPDATE 10/13/10 This is my second time using Sunset Glass. This time my balance was out in my window. I called to ask how to dissemble my window in order to access the balancer and they walked me through it. After that i brought it in and they check that back to see if they had them in stock. After a few min the woman returned with a few but she recommend me order new ones. She ordered them and said they would be in by Monday. Monday morning i received a call and sure enough it was in.
