As the Tillamook Creamery began to fill-up with kiddos, I decided to head south to the Blue Heron…read moreFrench Cheese Company for a bite to eat. What a fabulously wonderful, relaxing restaurant / garden / petting zoo and gift-shop. The grounds are abound with potted plants and flowers. I entered what can best be described as a large, deli-gift-shop. Ordering takes place at the deli counter, a number is given, and food is delivered to your table. There is a fountain area, a coffee bar and a refrigerated cooler for drinks. The wine section is expansive and beautifully displayed. I can't speak to the quality, as I didn't partake in adult beverages. The shop is comprehensive with loads of deli-like merchandise, boutique items and souvenirs. They offer a lot of hand-crafted and locally-made fare, which is my preference. The food was outstanding! I order the cheese charcuterie with salami and my husband ordered the Blue Heron Classic. What a delight, and with plenty of left-overs. It was such a gorgeous day I visited the Candy Shop for an ice cream cone (Tillamook, of course) and walked the grounds for peacock viewing. The Blue Heron has picnic tables outside, so I sat and enjoyed the sun for a while. It was an ideal escape!

This is a great stop in Tillamook. It's not far from the Tillamook cheese factory, but I prefer…read moreblue heron over that. They have animal feed. You can purchase in the gift shop and feed the animals outside. There's a donkey, goats, geese, and a few other others. I enjoy feeding them. The only problem this trip was I had my dog with me and he got a little crazy at the fence line. Part of the fence has chicken wire across the bottom but part of it doesn't and of course that's the part. My dog found it jumped inside. It was funny, not funny. Gift shop is great. I really miss going up and down the aisles and finding the pretzel sticks and samples of what's on the shelf. It was a good thing to look forward to and I enjoyed it. If you're in Tillamook, I would stop in. It's a great place for kids and picnic outside. There's also a separate candy shop on the premises. Great candy and some old school stuff that I had not seen in quite some time.

As a self proclaimed clam chowder connoisseur I take the hunt for delicious clam chowder throughout…read morethe PNW coastal area very seriously. Each beach town my husband I travel to, I spend far too much time reading reviews about clam chowder. If only I spent as much energy in other areas of my life as I do "internet-researching" clam chowder, who knows what I could accomplish. I must say that the clam chowder at Werner Beef & Brew is exactly what I have been hunting for. It is the perfect texture and consistency. It has a spectacular balance of clam to potato ratio, and the potatoes are cooked to perfection. They don't have too much bite, nor do they disintegrate into mush the moment they enter your mouth. The chowder itself was worth traveling from Rockaway to Tillamook for. It was even worth a more industrial view vs. an establishment with a more coastal and picturesque backdrop. The salad bar was on point. The variety of salad add-ins, dressings, and topping crunchy-bits were epic. It was a nice balance to the very rich perfect chowder I am already missing. I miss it. I miss the chowder. My husband also got the fish tacos, based on others' reviews and enjoyed every bite. I enjoyed their Dragon Fruit Cider, and he ordered one of their Meaty Bloody Mary's. If you are on the fence if you should order one, you should. You should get that bloody mary. The bloody mary then led us to purchase some of their salami and bologna. It was an elevated version of the sandwich meat my grandpa used with white bread, yellow mustard (off-brand), ice burg lettuce, and a slice of cheddar cheese. Mid-life has me craving nostalgia. It might be the hormone imbalance, but salami white bread sandwiches, here I come.

The jerky outlet was awesome with really affordable prices and a variety of flavors, including tons of sugar-free options. They had your classic beef jerky, pepperoni sticks, and sausage sticks. There was this 2 foot long sausage stick package in a variety of flavors that as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to get it. It was impressively long and looked juicy. Tillamook Country Smoker is a grab and go spot. The shop is a tiny building with a small parking lot, but easy to find parking. It's right off the 101, super convenient. The prices are just unbeatable!

Not what it used to be…read more They've tried to make the food look "upgraded," but the portion sizes definitely don't match the prices. It feels like county fair pricing -- except at least at the fair, you get way more food. I ordered a $15 cheeseburger that looked more like a slider. The bun was cold, the patty was barely warm, and it tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. Not great. Fries were the only solid part of the meal -- and ironically, they were bigger than the burger. We also tried the fried cheese curds, but the batter was too thick and hard, and they were lukewarm. They'd be much better with a lighter, crispier coating. A single square slice of pizza? $10. A 12oz milkshake? $8. Meanwhile, the $4 kids' ice cream was huge -- basically adult-sized. Sadly, after this visit, I don't think I'll be coming.
