Despite (practically) growing up on the Oregon Coast and being a self proclaimed Jacobsen Salt Co. super fan, I am embarrassed to admit this was my first time visiting their coastal gift shop. Keep in mind, it is essentially a tiny little gift shop in the Tillamook forest. But I think that adds to the charm! They have all of their best sellers and then some. (I do wish they had tasting opportunities.) Needless to say, our group enjoyed the rustic charm of this place and bought enough salt to last us the winter. read more

I have seen Jacobsen Salt at stores all around the Portland area and beyond and I was excited to visit the place where the magic happens! Jacobsen Salt has a beautiful waterfront property with plentiful parking a a small gift shop. The gift shop is small. When we arrived in the gift shop the person running the shop yelled at "you two" to start in a specific part of the store. I was a little put off, but continued to browse. We asked about the flavorings of the salt and was quickly corrected that the salts are not flavored like jello but infused. The interaction was a a bit off putting to me. The salt itself is wonderful. Definitely a premium product with varying price points. read more

Prior to stopping by Jandy Oysters company I had to stop by Jacobsen salt to bring their Habanero salt, definitely worth it I sprinkled it on my oyster shooter on some fresh oysters fire!! Also purchased the habanero salt was expecting salt being slight spicier, definitely settle flavor I wish they would make a Carolina ripper & Scorpion Trinidad salt that's my Scoville rank. I purchased the big stake seasoning bottle can't wait to try it! I do recommend this place I've been using this salt on my everyday cooking, salt has a good purity flavor. The place don't have much to see, I was hoping a tour or maybe just to see the process on making the salt. Regardless good salt, definitely will order through the web. Was so excited to visit this place and also get a tour/explanation of how they make the salt. The lady at the shop said she couldn't give any background and directed us to just go and find the "what's eating Phil" show that features Portland to learn about what they do. So that wasn't great. It's a really tiny shop with the area they make the salt working in a big machine outside. You can't sample anything before you buy. They did have a variety of different things. Salts, sweets, etc. To purchase. We did end up purchasing the furikake seasoning which I'm excited to try. read more

Love this Salt I tried the Pure Kosher Sea Salt and Pure Italian Fine Sea Salt and loved them both, I mix them together and I just ordered 2 more Pure Italian and it got her so quick I was very pleased. I live in Oregon and support the businesses here when I can. Give it a try, you will not be sorry. I used to use Himalayan and Celtic but discovered there is higher doses of heavy metals so I switched to Jacobsen's. read more

Was a nice little find along the coast. A bit off the beaten trail with a tiny gift shop. A good selection of spices and salts. The clothing gear is a bit overpriced at over $70 for a hoodie, but felt like good quality. The worker was very nice and helped guide us to some local food spots. Definitely worth a visit! read more

Excellent salt, I love the flavors. The Habañero salt is my favorite, and also the very-limited-edition San Pablo Worm & Chile salt. I use these on all sorts of things including egg salad, baked potatoes, and avocado slices. This little retail place used to do lots of samples which was super fun and helped me choose which flavors to bring home - they aren't doing them any more but maybe someday again in the future? They have delicious soft caramels for sale too, and very high quality branded t-shirts and sweatshirts. The location is down a fairly steep gravel driveway, not a lot of parking, and the shop itself is TINY. There is currently a sign to only have one group in the place at a time (6' of distance is not possible) so be prepared to wait outside if needed. There are pretty views to enjoy while you wait though. I would love to do a tour of the super neat-looking other buildings on this property but alas, tours are not available. read more

Jacobsen is a Portland success story! I was nearby their "factory," so I stopped by. They have a small store with their products, and their new unit, Bee Thinking (formerly https://www.yelp.com/biz/bee-thinking-portland - there is no storefront and the honey business was purchased by Jacobsen. The current Bee Thinking Jacobsen honey is sourced regionally.) The shop has a full line of their flavored salts in collections to 4oz jars, with samplers. There are chocolates and caramels with their salts. There is a large collection of flavored honey. They have a drawing of the steps in the seawater to finished salt process. Then you can see some of that from outside the building, there is no tour - the first step is cooking out the water from the salt with propane in about 3 foot diameter by 4 foot tall tanks. The most interesting part is that in one step, the sodium chloride crystallizes to the top of the vessel, while all the other salts, which would create bitterness, end up on the bottom! If you are in the neighborhood, their hours, it's a fine stop! read more

I have been wanting to check out this place for sometime. So I took the back road from Pacific City to Netarts and there it was on a small section of Netarts Bay. Very rustic look and feel. Park where you want the gal in the gift shop said since there was not any signage noting where to park. I was the only one there. On the way to the gift shop I passed the covered barn where they cook/extract the salt. Pretty cool! The gift shop is very small but for the products they sell you don't need a big gift shop. They hag Bee Local honey products and I was told that Jacobson purchased that company. There are so many salts to choose from and you can try them all out before you buy. I learned that salt has antibacterial properties and therefore you can stick your finger in it and will not contaminate it. The girl that was working was so very helpful and knowledgeable. They were out of my favorite salt which is their roasted garlic salt but I was able to get the rosemary salt. Their rosemary salt is what Burgerville puts on their rosemary fries. It is good on so many things. I also like the truffle salts And who doesn't like their regular Jacobson flake salt. When I got done in the gift shop I walked down beside the shop to the water... It was absolutely so beautiful there. Check it out! read more

A cute little stop on our way to Cape Lookout State Park. We had cooked out the night before and left the garlic salt on the bench outside. We've done this may times prior but this time while we were gone during the day, a small critter drug our salt through the dirt. No problem I said we can run down the road and obtain some salt to fit the bill. I've been a fan of Jacobsen's for a while and never knew exactly where their shop was so this was a welcome stop. It appears that their residence fronts the property and near the bay is a small retail shop. They have salt, honey, chocolate, carmels, and t-shirts. A small collection of all of these but a nice retail shop. Definitely worth the stop if you love their salt and sundry items. I'll stop back again. read more

Fun little visit. Two stars for somewhat off putting customer service. Only 6 people allowed in store at one time. People were inquiring about prices because no items are labeled. The employee was very annoyed that people kept asking and kept telling them to refer to the price guide on the wall. It's not like they are selling salt for a few dollars. This stuff is expensive and it was not the easiest to compare the size and name of the item to the long list on the wall. For the price I would have expected better customer service or goodness sakes just add price tags and item names at each counter location. The store is about 10 feet long and 4 feet wide and not that many items are actually there not sure why they can't make it easier for folks. Also very surprised that they don't offer tastes of the various items they sell. Fun to see where the salt comes from but after visiting I'm actually less likely to purchase in the future. read more

This isn't a tour, it's a retail shop. If you want first-class, hand gathered, sea-salt...this is where you need to come. The finishing salt is what does it for me, such a great deal! There are SO many types of salt to try, all handmade. Ben Jacobsen knows his salt!! Do try as many as you want, our favorites were the ghost pepper and smoked sea salt. They also sell various types of honey - we came home with the buckwheat, much darker and less sweet than other honey. Lots and lots of products in a tiny little store. read more

On our drive back from the coast, we stopped by Jacobsen Salt hoping to see how salt is harvested and made. Unfortunately there was no tour or anything, just closed up "employee only" barn/facility that you can try to peak thru and small gift shop. Was hoping to see their process up close, but I guess that's reserved for food/travel shows and YouTube celebs. You do at least get to see the little pipe that pumps water from the bay. And apparently the production facility in Portland carries more flavors than the gift shop here. Worth checking out at least once I guess. read more

Fancy salt indeed! I feel my world has changed. The little tasting hut is cute and the service was fabulous. The person helping us out explained all about the process to create their wonderful products and had us smell and taste the different salts. I was with a group and there were a few other folks there at the same time and we all enjoyed the products and everyone bought some Jacobsen salts before departing. White truffle salt. Black garlic salt. And for some collabs... They also have Spielman bagel chips! Yussss. One of my fave Portland bagel shops! Duh. Had to get some. As seen on your favorite food show. It is a picturesque little establishment with boutique salts. They have salts that they harvest and process right there, and add flavors too. They have salts from other places, like Himalayan pink salt. They have local honeys. They have candy using Jacobsen salt. The lady at the counter was very friendly. We are glad we stopped here and are very much looking forward to using our salt when we make apple cider salted caramels. read more

Cute little retail shop near Cape Lookout State Park. It's like a small little shack right off the beach that sells all the different Jacobsen sea salts, honey and caramels. It's cool that you can see where all the salt is actually made! Definitely pricey, but worth a quick stop if you're in the area. read more

We ventured out to the Tillamook location without knowing what to expect. There was a functional tasting room (nothing fancy) next to the salt factory where they harvest the salt from sea water. It's fascinating to see where the William Sonoma-stocked salt came from. The place is about 20 minutes away from the Tillamook Cheese Factory. read more

Stopped in here after driving by it a couple times while we were staying at Cape Lookout. Very cute little shop! Being a small shop, we understood that they were trying to be safe and only allow one family at a time. We purchased the Garlic Salt, lemon zest salt, steak seasoning, hot honey sauce and some of their sea salt chocolate caramels. Everything has been amazing!!! My husband loves the garlic salt, and the hot honey sauce has just the right amount of heat. The chocolate caramels are also the perfect amount of salt and sweetness, not super rich. We had purchased some oysters from down the road and used the garlic and lemon zest salt on them. The flavors were perfect. If staying in the area, definitely stop in. UPDATE (10/16/22): everything was so amazing, I ordered more garlic salt, caramels and their caramel sauce from their website. Makes me want to take another trip to the Oregon coast! read more

My friend and I visited Jacobsen's Salt on the Oregon coast and what a disappointment. We have been long time fans of Jacobson Salt but our experience at their little retail store was not good. The woman handling sales (there was only one person there) left much to be desired in the customer service department. We've been buying this lovely salt for a couple years at the Tillamook Farmers Market and decided to visit "the source" this April. It's a fascinating operation all around, amazing the level of finesse and timing it takes to get the crystals to form the way they do. They have a cute gift shop there where we picked up three different salts (they have a lot to choose from) and did some taste testing back at our rental with grilled Netarts oysters. Great stuff, the gift shop also takes cards as well. read more

This place is easy to pass by when driving along the coast but it is worth a 10 minute break. It is neat to see them making salt right next to where you park and with the bay the salt comes from in view. There is a small shop where you can taste the salts, honeys from Bee Local, and even their sea salt caramels! We usually take visitors here for souvenirs and have shipped family their steak rub around Christmas time. Prices are reasonable and the product is amazing. The rosemary sea salt would be perfect on fries. Garlic salts, coffee salt, ghost chili salt and more. Hard to not find something to take home. read more
