I had a small 18ft boat hauled out for a couple of weeks for some light service and a detail but I felt like I got the same great customer service as the owner of the 51 footer getting bottom painted in the yard. I've had the experience of two DIY shipyards so far, and Sunset by a huge margin is the better place to haul out your boat if you want to do the work yourself and have the time and space to do it right. Although the manager was strict with me regarding sanding and the overall mess I made, it was for the benefit of all boat owners and he was reasonable. This became apparent recently when I brought a new sailboat to another shipyard due to not wanting to bring the mast down to get it under the bridge for a stay at Sunset. My experience with the other yard made Sunset Aquatic seem like a ten out of ten in comparison. There are limited places to work on your own boat now, so if you can handle the 2 month minimum stay at Sunset, it's likely the best place to put your boat. Over all, not perfect, but fair to be sure if you just need a place to work. read more

Sunset Aquatic Marina is the only place I will take my boat. I have tried other shipyards and I always got ripped off. Sunset Aquatic does what they say that they will do, and they do it well, and for about what they say that it will cost. I just took my boat there for the 4th time for hull painting and some other maintenance, and I am completely satisfied with the service, the work, and the bill. These guys know what they are doing. One of the problems with boats and shipyards is that often people bring their old rustbuckets to the shipyard, and then they are mad when the shipyard finds a lot of stuff wrong with their boat that they did not anticipate. This is boating. I have found that Sunset is efficient, honest, and does good work for a fair price. Other places have variously billed for work that they did not do, treat my boat like crap, etc. Sunset does what they say they will do, they do it well, they treat your boat with respect, and at the end of the process they CLEAN THE BOAT and give it back to you in pristine condition. Took My boat to Sunset to get the bottom painted. I was told it would be up to 2 weeks because of the weather. I was also given a price in writing. 2 weeks went by and I went to check on my boat. Weather had been dry. They hadn't started working on it. Week 6 the boat is finally done. I went to pay and the bill was $200 more than my written estimate. Well I paid this bucket shop a lot of money to basically ruin my boat. They took months to complete the distruction and then washed their hand of any responsibility. Carl greeted me at the dock and was very professional. We set a completion date and they made sure it was ready on time. Very easy process, very professional and they did a great job.
