Boatswains locker had just the part we needed for our Chrysler 318 marine engine, a raw water pump. Unfortunately the part is very difficult to find unless bought online with a wait of up to 4-7 days of which we could not wait! We had to already postponed our trip to the Channel Islands for a couple of days for other reasons, so for them to have this part was a miracle. I had called earlier in the day and received a call back from George and Jerry about the part being available, they were very kind and helpful. When I arrived they made sure to make sure my old one lined up with the new one by measuring the specs on it, I found this to be good business practice to ensure your customer is getting the right part they also offered the part to me for a great price considering I could find this in the same day. #1 Boatswains locker is not cheap, they charge $120-$130 an hour BUT you get what you pay for. Their Team of mechanics are VERY well trained, and educated. Boatswain contacted me and came out to see if the unit was failing or if it was a simple adjustment. It turns out the wind was really high the original day when the Seastation Optimus was set up. There are so many combination adjustments to make on these setups to get the boat dialed in. The engineer that came out re did the tuning and the boat handles amazing now. What a world of difference. The joystick control is precise now. Jack had incredible patience and got it dialed in. I am very happy with the setup now. Thank you Jack and Rob for the great customer service. Very disappointing service. I asked these guys to fix 2 things on my boat and they come back with a 20k estimate that's not even broken out that doesn't include these parts. I never asked them to do an overview of my boat, but they certainly decided to charge the labor for it which I never agreed to. The labor was to replace these two parts which they did not do! They ripped me off and they are way out of line, don't know who can afford such nonsense, but I wouldn't recommend them at all. read more

I just called Boatswains last week to come out to our boat in ABM in Long Beach to diagnose and fix an issue on the port engine. Jack was very professional, and quickly diagnosed the cause of the problem. He left saying we'd get invoiced shortly, along with an estimate to fix the issue. When the invoice arrived by email yesterday there was a $16 service charge and an extra half hour of labor that I questioned. The immediate response was to waive the bill and tell me to find another boat mechanic, apparently by Fernando the service manager. Had this not happened earlier this year for an overcharge for a water pump install, I might not have noticed. Apparently they do not like to be questioned on their billing practices, and are very short-fused in reaching decisions not necessarily beneficial to their business. read more

I needed an oil line for my boat's engine and called a few parts dealers in my area. One was too busy to even check to see if they could get one, but said they'd call back. They didn't. The other didn't have one and suggested the Boatswain's Locker. I'm glad they did, Al answered the phone, looked up the part, set it aside. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but after chasing parts and feeling like my pitiful little problem wasn't worth the time to a busy boatyard, it was a great feeling. Al was busy when I got there and another employee, who's name I didn't catch, sold me the part and suggested a couple of new copper gaskets (which I forgotten to ask for). Al called back to apologize for being busy. Sure, all I did was buy a piece of tubing. I cannot say enough about the skills and professionalism shown by the entire staff at Boatswain's Locker. Whether dealing with the mechanical experts or the administrative staff, everyone is courteous, helpful and keeps you well informed. Boatswain's came into a bad situation where other service providers had erred in the installation of parts and in oil servicing, causing severe damage to one of two inboard diesels. The Boatswain's Locker staff meticulously investigated and determined the cause of the failure, documented each stage of the process, and then undertook and completed all of the repairs. The careful documentation resulted in enabling me to prove that the damage was not due to routine wear and tear, such that the all costs of repair were paid by insurance. Since my first experience, Boatswains has provided annual service and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I learned the hard way to stick with the best, and that's Boatswain's Locker in my book. read more

Since we bought our boat last year, the only mechanic we allowed to work on our engines is Brian from Boatswain's Locker. He is an expert on Volvo Penta diesels and a nice guy. Since last summer We have had several issues (not related to previous work done) and when I call Boatswain's Locker they make sure to send Brian to my boat. What I really like about the service I receive is the timely of getting service, and Brian always discuss with me what the problem is and what solution he recommend. He never tries to bill me for stuff I don't need and before leaving, he makes sure the engines are running as they should and he always take the time to make sure he checks both engines before leaving even if he only worked on one. This professionalism is shared with the rest of the Bosum Locker company where excellent customer service and honesty is paramount. I am not associated with these guys in any way, I am just a boat owner who is very happy to have found a company that is ethical and that stand behind their work and charge a fair price. They are not the cheapest in town but they are fair and reliable. If you invest a lot of money in a boat with complex diesel and generator engines, you are probably like me, looking for someone who can trust to do the job right the first time and be there when you need them, not the cheapest guy... I am grateful I was introduced to these folks for my repower. I had a mechanic I had used for 2 years who seemed totally lost when my yanmar threw a rod thru the case. Boatswain Locker, We had a long and lengthy Warranty issue on our vessel. Over the past 6 years the "Crew" at Boatswain has performed exceptionally. The vessel is finally repaired due to issues with Engines and Exhaust systems, not the work performed by the "Crew".
