Sal Jr took great care of my Seadoo's. I brought them in for Fiberglass / Gel Coat repairs on the bottom and overall refinishing of the hulls which were quite scuffed and faded. Sal provided really fair pricing for the amount of work / effort that was needed to rejuvenate my Seadoo's finish. As you can see in the attached photo, his shop did a great job! I don't know many 2008's that have seen hundreds of hours in the ocean and lakes / rivers as far out as Havasu that look this good. I brought my boat here for an estimate in July 2015. I wanted to do a full fiberglass restoration and gel coat. OC Boat repair looks like a pretty stable operation. They've been in business for awhile, they have a large indoor workshop and ample facilities for boat repair. Sal Sr was very pleasant. I explained the work I would like to have completed and handed Sal Sr one of my business cards. Sal said it could be done and explained the process. Everything sounded fine however, he didn't give an estimate or any paperwork at this time. He explained, his mother was ill and the family was going through a difficult time therefore, things could take longer. As we walked around the shop, we chatted about the boat, retro options for the motor, steering, etc. I was quite impressed and felt comfortable. Sal welcomed me to leave the boat and said either he or his son (Sal Jr) would get back to me with the estimate in a few days. He assured me that "it might take a little while" however, the boat would be safe and they have "plenty of storage space." I explained that I currently have a space for the boat in Long Beach for which I pay a monthly fee. He said it would be better to leave the boat so Sal Jr could estimate it. I felt confident and left the boat. One month elapsed and I'd heard nothing. I called the office. The machine picked up and I left a message with my name, number, the boat info and my contact information. Over the next several months, I'd left several messages on the office answering machine. Another month went by and nothing. No calls, messages, nothing??? At this point, I'm becoming a bit concerned. I made several calls over the next few weeks. Finally, I receive a message from Sal Jr. He's asking me to contact them because they haven't heard from me. I called and left a message for Sal Jr stating that we were in Northern Ca, and wouldn't be back for two weeks. I received a callback from Sal Jr while on our trip in mid January 2016. I agreed to meet with him when I returned. Upon my return I was able to contact Sal Jr (by calling his personal cel phone from which he'd called me) at OC Boat repair to setup a time to do a written estimate. I stopped by and the following day, I explained to Sal Jr that I had made several attempts to contact them but it appeared that they weren't getting my messages. I wanted to make sure I had the correct number so I called the number as I was standing in the office. The phone rang an the answering machine, picked up. Go figure? Sal Jr was pleasant and apologized for any misunderstanding. I filled out the top of an estimate form. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I EVER FILLED ANYTHING OUT AT THIS SHOP. He then conducted a very thorough walk around of the boat. Sal said he would email me the estimate as soon as he completed it later that evening or the next day. One and a half weeks elapsed. I'd not heard from OC boat repair. About the end of the second week, I receive a certified letter from OC boat repair with two copies of the estimate dated July 03, 2015 indicating it was completed by Sal Sr back in JULY 2015. It states If they do not hear from me soon, I may incur storage fee(s). I'm sitting here, reading this letter in total disbelief! I immediately called Sal Jr on his cel. I explained that I was just in there a couple weeks ago, heard nothing from them and now, this letter arrives. I explained that I was a little uncomfortable with the miscommunication on his part. I told him I'd come down to the shop. When I arrived at the shop, Sal Sr greeted me. He seemed a bit standoffish. I began talking about the work and he started to reprimand me. He said that he was tired of people just dropping their stuff off at the shop and forgetting about it. He wasn't very happy and also said he didn't have the storage space for all these things. Now, I'm really shocked. I asked why I hadn't received the estimate until all these months later. Also reminded him that I was only actually estimated two weeks ago even though the date on the estimate is July 2015. He didn't have much to say other than that he seemed pretty pissed. Sal Sr argued that I wasn't returning their calls and that I'd pretty much, just left my boat at the shop. I explained that I'd left numerous messages at the shop without a call back. I also reiterated that the boat was only estimated two weeks ago. The only time I'd ever received a copy of the estimate, was in the certified letter. Sal Jr stated he would email a copy to me which he never did. My email address does not appear on the invoice. I can only guess Sal Jr was the weak link here. Perhaps he'd lost my email address? It certainly appears he was not being truthful with his dad about his lack of contact with me. I refuse to do business with a company who estimates my job in Feb 2016 and back dates it to July 2015. The bottom of my 1959 Sea Swirl classic runabout had several cracks and was leaking. I needed to get it repaired but i am paranoid about leaving my boat anywhere to have work done on. I did some research, and got several recommendations to contact Orange County Boat Repair to fix the bottom. I brought it to their shop and had them complete the work. They have a nice big shop and took real good care of my boat. They fixed all of the cracks on the bottom, replaced my floor and carpeting, all by the date they promised to finish the job. I recently had my boat up in the Eastern Sierra's and she is finally leak proof. The repair job they did looks great, worked perfect, and I received numerous compliments. Boat repair from hell.... Brought my boat in for glass and gelcoat repair. They used the wrong resin and the first time that I took it out, the repairs started to fail. Brought it back in and they said that they would make it their priority. 9 weeks later, they had not started working on it so I threatened to tow it to another place and demand my $9,900 back. They started on it but it took them 6 weeks to finish it. During the warranty repair, I stopped by and checked on the work process. Sal sr. was working on the boat and he found delamination that they had just sprayed over without repairing it. He also found other damage that was obviously painted over without repairing it correctly. When I picked it up, they said that they couldn't repair it correctly??? I was searching for a shop to do a half cap on my 2003 28 Eliminator Daytona. I called around many places trying to find the shop that best suited what I needed. I wanted a half cap front and rear with stainless rub rail down sides, fill some holes in transom, fix chips on underside of the boat, and a general cleanup of the gel coat. After getting some prices that were far beyond anything I could afford, and getting a few more I decided that OC Boat Repair was the place for me. Pricing was up front, written on a contract and very fair. I appreciated Sal Jr getting back to me in a timely manner, always answering my questions, being available for me to meet and drop off on a Saturday as I was coming from out of state. I gave them a pretty detailed layout of what I wanted and gave them a pretty tight window to get it done. To say that I am picky and want it done a certain way would be an understatement. Throughout the process of the work, Sal jr sent me pictures, updates and called me with any questions on what I wanted. Mostly I appreciated him putting up with my calls and questions. It can be very nerve wrecking leaving your boat to get major work done at a shop that you have no experience with, but they made it very easy and quickly gained my trust. Communication was superb! When I picked the boat up, they once again accommodated me coming out of state to meet on a weekend. They spent quite a bit of time going over the whole boat with me. I was honestly amazed at how good it looked. I wanted it cleaned up, but it looked like a brand new boat!! Couldn't be happier with the work they did. The blending of the gel was perfect. First off this business owner doesn't no shit about boats. He sub contracts all of the work out. I bought my boat down early July to have my carb looked at. Was told by the business owner will call you once we have an answer. Well I waited about a week and no call. That's step 1. So I decided to call him and getting through is just as bad as calling the DMV if u had ever done. Finally got a hold of the business owner to be told I needed a rebuilt carb. Thinking to myself well unlikely but what the heck. So I give him approval. Said great we will call you. Another week goes by haven't heard anything, so I call. Again hard to get through. Finally he calls me back week and half later and says I haven't had the time to go down and pick up ur carb. Thinking to myself it's been a week and a half wth. So he says sorry but he will get in few days but it in boat and call me (you mean I'll call you). So few days goes by guess what no call. So I finally had enough. I tell the business owner to pack it up and bill me for what you have worked on. Now he calls me like every day lol. Step 2 we finally get in touch and says oh btw the place where I dropped off your carb they mixed up the order and didn't replace yours! I was quite relifeved as both of them were jackasses anyways and I'm sure it wudnt have worked. So I ask business owner so you had my boat a whole month just to call me and say pretty much nothing has been done, his reply I'm sorry sir it was not in my control. In your control, you have my boat and yet you don't show concern. Guess u don't care about your customers. But when it comes time to picking up and paying oh he calls you johnny on the spot! Anyhow I bring the boat home after paying him $150 to do nothing. What I found out wrong with my carb was the screw idealer just needed an adjustment? Oh big diff from saying I needed a rebuilt carb. Wondering if the $150 went to jut guessing what's wrong rather then spending the time figuering it out. Basic trouble shooting some boat person he is. This guy is not a mech, boater b whare. Talked with sal on the phone got a rough estimate by me telling him measurment due to i live in torrance. i ended up towing my boat there thinking i needed the bow of my boat repainted he gave me two estimates one to paint and 1 to buff it i figured it needed paint he called the next day said it was able to color sand and buff he also fixed some scratches and nics down the side of the boat the boat.
