They worked to squeeze me in, and while I waited hoping I wouldn't sink, they even offered to have someone monitor my boat. WTH??? Who offers service like this in 2026??? If I could give them more stars I would. I have had nothing but good experiences with them and with the staff. First, when I purchased my boat it was right before Covid (like a week before). During the haul out the previous owner spoke to MS about the bottom job not having held up and they said they will re-do it for me once the sale of the boat is completed. Covid hit and quite some time later I contacted them and they honored their word and re-did the bottom at no cost to me. I asked them to inspect everything else - I felt bad they weren't making any money on this! I even asked them to check specific things (slow draining sink, etc). The skeptic in me was certain they would find something that had to be fixed. Instead they called me and said it all looks great. I was so impressed at their ethics and honesty! Second was just this week I took the boat to have a frozen seacock and possibly a thru hull replaced. Due to personal circumstances I had to leave the bot there a day in advance of the scheduled work and they were accommodating. Well, they squeezed the service in early to discover that they could unfreeze the seacock and clean the corrosion and nothing needed replacing. Tony discovered this without even needing the haul out. Apart from the work, the staff is pleasant, delightful, accommodating and RESPONSIVE. as a single handed sailor I need coordination to get my boat in and get it home and they are always on the ball. If I could give them 10 stars I would. The service was impeccable. Tony was very patient with me giving me a quote for the various things I needed done. He even told me when I didn't need certain things done. Never felt like they were trying to up-sell me. But at the same time, he was very thorough about recommending what work should be done. I would rather be told what should be done, even if it may not be immediately urgent, since it's going to be several years before my boat is out of the water again, stuff can go wrong during that time. So I'd like to know about it NOW, so as to make a proper decision. Nevertheless, Tony is NEVER pushy with you about any of the work that needs to be or is suggested get's done. When you talk to him, you feel like the most important person in his vicinity. He's not trying to rush you out of there. Nick is likewise phenomenal. Helps you schedule everything out and super accommodating with your schedule. The work performed on my boat was absolutely superb! They let me check everything out before it was put back in the water. They were completely on schedule, even though I added a few more items for them to fix, it cost me no extra time. They came in UNDER the estimated labor times. And, they even wash your boat when everything is done! Very highly recommended and yes, very much worth the prices you're going to pay. If I could give less stars, I would. Very disappointed in the haul out for a marine inspection. After 20 minutes, we were bullied into having the boat put back in the water before surveyor had done his due diligence. We were threatened by the workers (indirectly of course since they all pretended to not speak english) that we either had to splash the boat immediately or wait an hour while they went on break. I would advise you to go to another yard if possible and I'm very glad I do not live around here. They did call me after an email complaint to try and talk about the situation but there is nothing that could fix the situation and what had happened. THIS IS WHY I YELP!!! When I read a scathing review to a company I had the OPPOSITE experience with, I just got to let the word out there. I told Dawn yesterday when I picked up my sailboat that I would put in a good Yelp review for her and Marina Shipyard and was shocked to see what appeared on Yelp, GEEZ! GOOD THING I DID! Here is my experience at Marina Shipyard, just picked up Seasters, my sloop there yesterday. I was not in a hurry to pick my boat back up, especially after some repairs to the boat were discovered after the haul out. I think the repairs were done at reasonable rates. 1. Walked to office two weeks ago, talked to Dawn, very nice and friendly, in nice relaxing, yet busy office environment. Dawn and the rest of the staff in the office were certainly not stressed out at all, unlike a customer or two I noticed walk in. Dawn went over everything that I wanted to know thoroughly (as a prudent person, I don't mind asking questions), and was very nice the whole time, even giving me sage advice as I was finishing our transaction yesterday. 2. Met with Victor, whole explained the process of taking Seasters out of the water on a cradle versus a sling like they did for my boat down on Shelter Island, San Diego a couple years ago. Victor was very nice, relaxed and professional, going over ALL my concerns (Seasters needed some minor fiberglass repairs to the hull/stern area before painting) from Pre-Haul out to Post Haul Out. He met me yesterday when I picked up Seasters and notified me about a rudder post concern that would be addressed at the next haul out in two years and taken all apart. Victor knows what he's doing, after 26 years, and is great to work with! 3. Tony- Man of mystery, I never met him, but, I suspect, he's implicit in making things go as smoothly as possible. Tony was easy to communicate with. 4. Sure, Marina Shipyard is busy-because they are SO good at what they do. Of course, you can ALWAYS find someone to do something cheaper, but, paying a bit more for even the chance of having better quality parts and workmanship on your boat when you're miles away from shore is CHEAP INSURANCE! 5. Maybe the most important of all, my Captain friend, definitely one of the worlds foremost sailors (he teaches racers who to race better!), referred me to Marina Shipyard...that's all I needed to know, cheers! What happened to servicing wood boats? Called for an appointment to paint the bottom of our wood boat and was told we don't work on them anymore. It's scraping and painting. Same as a plastic boat. I'm not asking for caulking or replanting. No refastening of ribs or shipbuilding skills needed. Just scrape and paint. Nope. Ok I'm off to South Coast Shipyard In Newport Beach then. Our nightmare started a couple of years back. We thought about selling our boat so we had a broker prepare the boat for sale. We were told we needed new shaft seals. We let our broker 's agent schedule the work at this shipyard and we promptly paid the bill. We ended up not selling the boat as we got caught by the boating bug again. After a couple of outings, we noticed the newly replaced shift seals were leaking. Attempts, at this shipyard, were made to make it right. When the problem was not resolved, we were then told, by this shipyard, that the source of the leak was not in fact their shaft seals but our need for major engine work. This work has recently been completed, but it has yet to be determined if the shaft seals will again leak. During one attempt to repair the shafts, we had the shipyard paint the bottom of our boat. Since our boat was already out of the water, we felt it would be a good time to paint as we would not have to haul the boat twice and could save that cost. However, the price Nick Bryant quoted was more than that quoted by other yards that would have to pull the boat. This made no sense. Nick attempted to hustle us to pay more than others quoted. When we refused to pay his inflated price, Nick reluctantly agreed to a price slightly over that quoted by others. After the boat was painted, Nick then prepared an invoice indicating little to no prep work was done at our request and attempting to thereby limit the warranty. When we called him on this issue, Nick became exceedingly belligerent. Yelling and screaming over the phone. After his temper tantrum subsided, Nick reluctantly removed the added verbiage. When we went in to pay and retrieve our boat, Nick would not acknowledge our presence. Now, not even a year after the bottom was painted, we received a report from our dive team indicating that we have areas of the bottom lacking in paint. The divers took a video which I took to Tony to review. Upon review, Tony advised that we had a very serious issue and should retain the services of his recommended boat electrician, Albert, to come out and check for issues stemming from electrolysis. We did as told. Albert came out, performed his testing and confirmed there were no electrolysis issues. We then had our divers check our main anode which was confirmed at 70% and well functioning. Today I returned to the boat yard to speak with Tony regarding the findings. After hearing the findings, Tony now was less concerned with our issue and advised that the lack of paint was normal for the age of the paint job, contradicting his prior statements. While Tony and I were discussing his newly found lack of concern, Nick walked up and literally threw our prior work order on Tony's desk. I advised Tony that during our last experience with Nick he was rude toward us. Nick apparently overheard my comment and came unglued. Nick approached me and pointed his finger in my face. Nick then started calling me names. He said I was a "pussy" at least 10 times. Nick's berating of me in front of Tony, the receptionist and other individuals went on for several minutes. Nick then challenged me to a fight! When I would not engage he said I was cowering. Telling me he was off at 3pm and would be waiting for me. He said this several times while holding up three fingers. I asked Nick if he would be getting on his tricycle at 3pm to go home, thereby insinuating his behavior was that of a child. Nick then approached me again continuing to challenge me. After several minutes of this continued behavior, Nick eventually left the office. Tony then advised me that this was not the right shipyard for me and I would have to have my work done elsewhere. When I left the building Nick was waiting for me in the parking lot advising me he was going to "kick my ass". He dared me to come over to him. Nick continued to threaten and intimidate me, a senior citizen. There were 10 or so other individuals, presumably employees, out at the gate watching their upper management challenge a customer. The entire exchange was extremely unprofessional. The bottom paint is still questionable and the shafts yet to be tested. Throughout the exchange Tony was cordial, however, Nick appears to run the show and Tony had little to no control over Nick's exceedingly unprofessional juvenile behavior. Nick is a loose cannon. Tony did eventually come out and escort Nick back into the building. A phone call was placed to GM/CFO/SEC Cyndee Allen, however, it has not yet been returned. This issue is not resolved. read more

I priced the same parameters for a bottom paint job up and down the coast. Marina Shipyard came in the highest. Their quote was $2200. The lowest out of the five was $1485 (from their rate sheet). The others averaged $1850. Shop around. I didn't really care for the tone of their rebuttals for a couple reviews on here from the office manager. And when I visited in person a couple of times came away feeling "bad vibes" and a bit dismissed. This used to be my favorite yard twenty years ago before I took a leave of absence from owning a boat. I am sure they are still capable of quality work but I'm going on to another yard. read more

I just noticed my 2015 review was responded to. First, the response is absolute bullshit. The work done in 2009 was horrible and borderline fraudulent. HOWEVER, let me clarify: The Tony I spoke of is no longer employed there. He WAS the yard manager. ANOTHER Tony did good mechanical work on the boat--I have no problem with him. He is NOT the one who did the fraudulent blister repairs. Here's the good news: I brought another boat in for a survey and mast removal in late 2016. I learned that lying Tony is gone, and the good Tony is now running the place. Please don't confuse the Tonys! As for the yards response? BS. Really? Was she involved in my boat's work in any way? Was she party to a single conversation? NO! What the hell is a "paint blister?" We were obviously there for gelcoat/fiberglass blisters. Bad Tony wrote the work orders and invoices. I have used this shipyard for over forty years and for the last forty years I have defended the place. I maintained that there is no such thing as a cheap yard that does good work. But no more. There has been a change in ownership and now we have a yard that not only has predatory pricing but does lousy work. We took our boat in for work that used to cost me $2500 and the bill came to $8500. When they launched the boat it was taking on water so bad that they had to pull it back out of he water. When they relaunched they wanted even more money to pay for this leak that didn't exist before we went in their yard. When we called to discuss the mater no one would take or return our calls. After contacting Marina Shipyard about how unhappy we were with the service, Tony personally came down to the boat in its slip on a weekend to look at the markings left on the boat, and even offered to send his guys down to help remedy it. He helped us get the damage to our sail repaired. The general yard workers might not have as much attention to detail as the managers, but the level of customer service offered more than made up for it. I think our experience may have been a fluke and not typical of what a customer can expect from this Shipyard, and even after this experience, I could recommend someone to use their services. read more

So disappointed with this place. They quoted us around 1500 when we first got there then called a week later to say it would be closer to 4000 but no more than that. Then when we get there the bill is 7500!!! They didn't call or anything just hit us with the bill and said they were sorry. The manager did nothing when I called. I told them we would've never had the work done had we known what it was going to cost but they never called us to say they were going over that much. I had an extremely positive experience. Someone caused us to lose our prop shaft. Our boat is heavy (27 tons) so we soon learned that we would have to take it to Marina Shipyard, which would be able to handle the weight of a Morgan OI 41. From start to finish, these guys were polite and professional, and they gave our dog cookies. They estimated between 3000 and 3500 to get a new prop shaft fabricated and installed, plus some incidentals, and it went over only because we agreed that the area around where the cutless bearing had been cut out should be glassed in, which cost a little more. We ended up paying about $4300. I really liked these guys and they did a great job. If anyone wants a picture of the repairs to the boat, which looks very professional, send an email to amhealy58@gmail.com. I also had heard from someone that they would try to sell more than was needed, but we spoke with a shipwright who was building cabinets on our boat and he said that he had only had positive experiences with them. He said that everyone tries to sell extra product to make money. Go figure. If you don't want the extra product, don't accept it. They offered work that we knew wasn't necessary, and we declined it. We told them what our budget was. They kept us informed. They did a very, very good job. There are reviews that say that Tony is an asshole. There is a new Tony. He has the same name. If these people are rude, they keep it very well hidden. Everyone was friendly. I don't believe they try to screw anyone. they do a good job for the money they charge. I'm an attorney. We all know that attorneys try to sue people for any reason under the sun. I am not going to sue the Shipyard Marina. That's my endorsement. :) read more

We had our Morgan 41 Out Island hauled out to have the cutlass changed a few months ago. Initially our diver told us he could do it in the water, but after taking six months and losing our prop shaft, we fired him and decided to have it done right. Although the estimate Marina Shipyard gave us was lower than the final bill, they did have to rebuild/re-glass part of the stern where the diver had "hacked" at it trying to get the old cutlass out. Then they found two more cutlass bearings pressed in that also had to be removed. All and all it was a pleasant enough experience. We will use them again, if needed, and we would definitely recommend Marina Shipyard to others. read more

They called me 10 minutes after I left he yard to tell me there was a problem with my boat and the story went on and on, they didn't know I lived close by and I kept them on the phone, confirming and reconfirming they were talking about my boat. They I walked up to them as they said they were at my boat with the problem, they had no idea I was so close. The story sure changed and I will never be lied to again. I was so pleased to have my boat hauled out by Marina Shipyard! I'm local to alimitos bay and this is my second time having the boat out of the water. They did a great job of informing me from the start about everything that they would be doing. Dawn was such a wonderful help setting me up with all the paperwork. Nick (probably a ducks fan lol) helped out with the day to days and great help with the progress on what was getting done to the boat. Tony the owner was super nice threw my dad and I a couple Marina Shipyard shirts, making us feel right at home here. Although I have a small 27' boat it was amazing seeing them move it around with such ease and carefulness. This is a great shipyard super clean and skilled in what they do! I had a great experience at Marina Shipyard back in 2008 when I hauled out for a bottom job on my 27' sailboat. At that time I was able to save $ by doing all the prep and sanding myself over the weekend. I got great advice from the Yard Boss Tony, who periodically came by to see my progress on the prep and gave me valuable advice. Then congratulated me on doing a great job. What is not to like when the estimate you get ends up being a couple hundred dollars less when it was time to pay. I also love the fact that Marina Shipyard uses elevators vs a crane. I never was a fan of watching my 3.5 ton boat hanging in the air. I will be hauling out for sure this Season. Thanks Marina Shipyard! read more

I just had the bottom painted and the prop shaft repacked. They did an outstanding job! Helpful, courteous, and patient explaining and showing me what they found during the safety inspection. They were totally OK with my deferring minor things that could be repaired with the boat in the water. All in all, another outstanding experience! I have been boating for over thirty years, I recently had my 30 foot Skip Jack hauled out at Marina Shipyard for the first time. Unfortunately I had a transmission that failed and needed to be replaced. I first spoke with Nick in the front office and he was extremely polite and professional. He answered all my questions and emailed me all the necessary paperwork the same day so he could expedite my haul out. I had some additional questions regarding haul out fees and crane costs so I spoke to the yard manager (Tony). All the fees Tony quoted me were exactly what I was charged on my final invoice. Tony and his crew saved our 38 foot sailboat, Serenity. She sprung a leak at the shaft through hole on a Friday, My husband slept on the boat in the marina all weekend to make sure the bilge did not over work and shut down. Our choice was to go to the only shipyard that had room, which was in Wilmington and we were held hostage and raped with fees and bad workmanship. We were able to get our boat out at an excessive cost and still she was not ready to come home. They completely sealed off the shaft through hole so she would not sink but we refused their work because it was overpriced and poor. They also did a horrible job on the painting. After hearing our story, Tony at Marina made room for us and even offered to help with towing costs if needed. They worked with our budget, and my husbands need to be hands on since he already did the work on the engine. Marina fixed the poor paint job, and did an excellent job with the leak at the shaft through hole. They even helped my husband line up the engine properly so he could finish in our slip. And finally arranged for a tow back to Cabrillo. The wonderful thing about working with Tony and his crew was this was all done on a hand shake. Tony and the other workers were easy to talk to and did not mind the constant communication from my husband. We had been through almost 5 weeks of horror with this boat and our experience at the other boat yard left us suspicious and untrusting. Tony changed that for us. Will never use this Shipyard again. We were given an estimate of $2266.00 for one coat of bottom paint by Dawn. When the work was done the bill was above $3000.00. We had not authorized any extra work to be done, even though Nick and the office were trying to hustle us for repairs that didn't need to be done. They did not have any written or verbal authorization for any work. When confronted about the higher bill Tony the yard manager said $2266 was just a base and had no explanation of why it was so much more. They basically held our boat hostage until we paid the balance. I do not recommend that anyone use this Shipyard. Looking into taking legal action against them. read more

Beware to all future and past customers of the "Current Special" offered by Marina Shipyard. We received an all inclusive estimate before haul out. The following is a list of problems with the invoice because of error on sales tax and overcharges. 1)The invoice increased the price of our paint $40./gal. over the estimate. 2) The computer program is set up to charge sales tax on the amount before the discount, a difference of $43. In our case. The Invoice Summary also is incorrect, it does not show the Environmental Compliance Charge as a line item. After checking with other yards in the area, I found these yards charge $50.-$66. for this charge . We were charged $7./ft ($294) for Env. Compliance Charge. We did receive a refund for the overcharge on the paint and the sales tax after many phone calls and e-mails. read more
