The fries were loaded with toppings and plenty of kalbi, but was quite salty. The katsu was good but the rice was hard. The ramen was very salty. The chicken teriyaki was grilled and had the hallmarks of chicken teriyaki but was also a bit salty. Waiting for a seat was only about 15 minutes but waiting to order was also about 15 minutes and then another 20 minutes for food to come out. The interior is like a catering venue. We stayed in a hotel and wanted to have a nice dinner at Sunset 89 after a long adventures day of Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend hiking. It was Monday around 6pm, when we got there there were a long line because they were understaffed. The wait line was long and reviews were good so we thought their food was really good. They had only 2 waitresses for 10 plus tables and they were doing best they could. I have no complaints about the waitresses. We waited about an hour before we seated and another hour to receive our food, we were super hungry but when we got our food it was so bad I was ready to eat anything but my kalbi on the noodle was not even decent, it was way to salty and chewy. My wife's pork belly on the rice was disaster as well rice was cooked too hard or stayed out too long, it was hard and old and pork belly was too chewy and over spiced. I wouldn't pay about $30 each for any of those dishes anywhere. We couldn't finish our food even though we were super hungry. Another let down was they will automatically charge minimum of 18% gratitude after that long time wait and that bad food I was forced to pay 18% gratitude, it didn't feel good. The food is delicious, although the pricing is a little outrageous and much higher than their menu on their website, so expect to pay more. The interior could be pretty impressive but it was lacking and it sounded so hollow in there I felt like I had to whisper throughout the entire dinner so my voice wouldn't carry. The bar could be a really cool area but it was empty, no bartender, and the lights above it were off, looking like they didn't want you to sit there. Excellent, extremely surprising find in Northern AZ. Had zero expectations of finding awesome Hawaiian/Polynesian fusion this far from the coast, but came twice. Dino the chef is a mastermind, and his crew of staff and servers, including Brook at the bar did great. As with everywhere, post-Covid, there is a wait for all good things, but it is worth it. Although not in downtown, this place is well worth a stop. We tried most of the menu and came back, and it was excellent.
