Local sushi restaurant. Not fancy but, a great place to eat. Limited parking, next to fire station. The service was good and the price for what you get is fantastic. I ordered the chili roll, a little spicy, not too much. Will definitely go again when I am in the area. The building shows its age. Don't let that deter you from going in and sampling some great food. read more

The sushi is so fresh, delicious, and there's a great variety. It's a cute little place off the beaten path, and the owner told us the story behind it. We always have great service here and even when we got there later than we wanted, they didn't turn us away. We love Suns! read more

Sun's Cafe - Pickle roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna, and I'm not sure what the others were. I think the new Kent roll or a softball roll was one. - Sushi Bars Near Me - Quinton, Virginia

Been back several times. Today we did takeout and got our perennial favorites (Geronimo, Lion King, New Kent Softball and Rainbow). Today we tried the fried dumplings and the 007 roll. Both are great. Always quick and friendly service It is a hole in the wall without even a website but don't let the ambiance keep you from going to get great food. All that was $87 read more

Everything was delicious! So when you're coming up on the restaurant, it's easy to miss just because it's tucked in next to another building. It's a family operation so the owners also doubled as the cook and the serving staff. They were very friendly and we talked throughout lunch. Prices were VERY reasonable and the sushi was fresh. I particularly recommend the Jalapeño Bomb. I can't wait to come back and try other stuff on the menu, especially the bulgogi! Don't sleep on Sun's Cafe! read more

Got the club and French fries and they were amazing! Heard great reviews about the sushi can't wait to try it next!

Best sushi and the owners are so good and nice. They used to have hibachi but after the pandemic they had to stop due to inflation but I'm really hoping they bring it back. Best kept secret in New Kent is Suns Cafe!! read more

Very good sushi with lots of flavor! Was really quick service also. Will be coming again in the future!

Great food, great service and always treated like family!!!! If you're ever in New Kent, stop and give Sun's a try!

It doesn't look like much but there is a lot of love that comes out of the kitchen. Great sushi for country living.

Sun's Cafe has everything you need. You need breakfast? They have breakfast. A burger? Sure thing. Sushi? No problem. Liver and onions? Yup, got that too- but not until after 11. Located in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by rolling fields, ribbons of highways, and ever growing pockets of new housing, Sun's is at the crossroads of old and modern day America. A photo of the original building (still there, but now just a small section) hangs above the register. The owner told us that the photo was from the 30s, and I'm positive that this restaurant will stay exactly as it is until the family that runs it decides that they need a change. Because we are exactly the right group of people for such an eclectic menu, we ordered breakfast with a side of fried dumplings and sushi. We were going to order fried pork chops, but since it was before 11 our request was denied. There might have been some friendly attitude involved, and it might have made us decide to time our next visit for lunch or dinner. The fried dumplings and sushi were good. The dumplings were deep fried, but not overly greasy. The sushi and sashimi were not evenly cut, but were generous in portion and were fresh. The hamachi was served a bit colder than I'd have liked, but we were ordering it during breakfast hours, so I can't be upset. Breakfast was everything that makes me happy with a place like this. Light pancakes, crispy bacon, and creamy chipped beef. I'm positive that the chipped beef was not made in house, but it was served with just the right toast to sauce ratio. Our friend ordered the ribeye and was happy with his thinly sliced steak and eggs. Honestly, the only thing I wish Sun's had on the menu are a few hot Asian dishes, even if it was a rotation of daily specials. I'd love to be able to add an order of ramen or bulgogi to the diversity that already exists at my table. read more

If there's a best kept secret in new Kent County, it's this gem. You pull up to a building that looks well worn, but inside you find incredible talent, and to say they treat you like family is an understatement. Our service was incredible, friendly, And prompt. And if you are a lover of sushi, buckle up for a vast menu, hand, rolled, fresh, whatever adjective you want to insert here. Chefs kiss to Suns café. And by the way, if you are not into sushi, they have a Full American menu, too. We might try that next time. read more

Stumbled upon this place on our way home to Wake Forest from Williamsburg. This is a hole in the wall restaurant not close to anything and sort of off the grid. The first impression is definitely not the best due to its location and exterior/interior appearance. Seem to be run by a family and when we first walked in - the atmosphere if rather concerning. They were packed and busy and there's not one person able to greet us within a few minutes. The interior could certainly use dusting and a little organizing - but of course we were here for the food. The people that work here could certainly be more friendlier (I'm not sure if it was just us since we were outsiders) but they seem to get along w/ some of their customers (perhaps locals). Moving on to the food - has your typical Sushi menu and other Asian entrees including some traditional American like chicken tenders. Consider my previous statement on appearance and friendliness of the staff, we were unsure of how the food was going to be so we started with chicken fingers and four sushi entrees. Food took longer than expected, but it's OK, we are family that is open to trying out new things. Food came out hot and fresh from what I can say - so the extra wait is certainly acceptable. The tenders are fair portions and the batter was good - but most importantly it is cooked thoroughly. Now to the sushi - for being off the grid sushi shack, I'm surprised how fresh the ingredients were. In fact, my kids and I even ordered a second round because of how it was prepared, taste, and freshness. Minus one star since the staff can use some lesson in customer service :/ the older gentleman that prepared our sushi was certainly one of the friendliest out of the four we had interaction with. Will I go back again? certainly for the food! Hoping by then, the staff would have read my review and not taken for granted that customer service these days is still an essential to have a successful business. read more

For the area, the sushi is pretty good! The rice is pretty good in the sushi. They also have an American menu for those divided families where some crinkle their nose at the idea of sushi, but others love it. Looks like they have a pretty decent kids memo too. The atmosphere is low key and bright. If you are out in these parts, it's definitely a good place to eat, but not really a "destination location." It's close to my daughter's class, so I will be back! read more

Totally worth the few miles off I64 to get here. We are road-tripping from CA and so tired of fast food, fried food, etc. We had a ton of veggie sushi and it was all delicious. So, I was very hesitant to try this place out at first because honestly it looks a bit sketchy on the outside, but my husband finally convinced me to try the sushi after living in New Kent for over a year. My children came to see me from Ashland and they wanted to eat somewhere good My son recommended this nasty place so we went there thinking we'll we can eat great food. But to my disappointment as we got home my youngest daughter asked what kind of nuggets are this. Dry no flavour Gris Were overcooked my son's ribeye sandwich had no meat all bread. The chef salad and my wife's grilled chicken salad looked like side salads with barely my toppings and to add insult to injury they ran out of cheese after I've already paid over $60 dollars for this crap. Terrible service terrible everything we had to order more food from another place since the portions were not even good enough for a child. The steak and cheese sandwich had no meat and no flavour. Awful food I tell you awful this people have no clue as to how to prepare American food stick either the sushi and Japanese dishes or close up the place read more
