I love them so much that even though I moved to California 2 years ago, I wait to buy new glasses until I visit home so I can shop with them and I still order my contacts through them. The personal service you get is outstanding and the selections range to the trendy to the ho-hum, whatever you floats your boat. They can also work with you to customize your purchase. For example, I bought a pair of Burberry sunglasses and they were able to customize them to my prescription and tint them just right so they looked like the original lenses. In addition, they are amazing at repairs. Not only do they typically give my glasses a basic tune-up of tightening and shining while I shop, but they also can make miracle repairs with lost causes. One time at a party someone bumped into me and knocked my glasses off, then promptly stepped on them. They were flattened immediately. Hendricks and Sidebottoms got them new lenses and managed reshape the frame back. Finally, these are good honest people that work here and it has that charm of a small business that is lost nowadays with all the chains and rotating employee schedules.

Of course customers are always directed toward the designer frames, but some people just want a regular frame and nothing fancy! I was directed to the "non-designer" frames in the back corner which was a huge mistake at this business! The non-designer frames could not support my lenses and broke at least 7-8 times, in which I paid at least 5 of those times for a replacement! Ridiculous! I went back to the store again this morning due to BROKEN FRAMES and had them replaced free of charge (by a much older gentleman) which was appreciated! Nevertheless, customers should be informed before their purchase, that "non-designer" frames may not support some prescription lenses! Today was my last and final visit to the Philadelphia Vision Center at Cheltenham!

I imagined that it's (or maybe it used to be) owned by an elderly couple with their children helping out once in a while. Most of the places around are related to the elderly community after all. I was surprised to find that much like the barbershop and the coffee shop across the street, this place too is owned by Black folks. I have been to about almost 10 spots at this point looking for a pair of glasses that would fit my big head and in each place I could only find 2-3 frames that look relatively decent. The staff at the other places are also not very passionate about their work. Even though this is one of the smaller optical stores that I have been, their selections of wider frames are a lot better. The staff behind the counter was very enthusiastic about finding me a pair of glasses that looks good on me. It makes the experience a lot better and he swore to give me his honest opinion. After asking me about my style preference, he was very accommodating about having me trying a few pair of glasses and at the end, I did get a pair of frames that I love. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends, but then not a lot of people have a head as big as mine so I decided to put the word out here. I sure hope they do well.

I stopped in in the pouring rain today and guess what, no repair guy. Apparently he didn't show up today and they don't know when he'll be in. I didn't get an apology, nor an offer to call me when the elusive repair guy does show up, but I'm done with this place. I wanted to support a small business owner rather than go to a chain, and this place is in my neighborhood so i thought it was perfect, but F' it, i'm going to Pearle.
