We live in Oracle, it can be challenging to find contractors to come up to us. Our realtor Sarah Belknap highly recommended Les. Our driveway was inches thick of 1 inch sized rocks which created a hazard attempting to drive on it with the incline. I would literally slide at times. Les came out personally to give an estimate a day or two after we called. I expected we might have had to wait until after summer to get on the schedule. To our surprise Les made an opening in matter of a few days. We are up on a hill with a one lane semi-private road. This left little room to get the heavy equipment up to us. The driveway badly needed to be graded and crowned for drainage. So a day of dump trucks bringing ABC after removing the rocks. The crew found a way to get most of the equipment up the narrow driveway, some hand operated equipment needed to be used in place of the large street equipment. There was about 10 people working and they got a perfect Ashphalt layer. Les's son runs the crew and would not leave until we were completely satisfied. Fortunate for the crew there wasn't any room for improvement. We let in cure for about a year and had Les and his crew come out to seal coat it a couple of days ago. He could not have been more reasonable given the volatile oil market. It looks exactly like we had hoped when we envisioned it. Highly Recommended! read more

Eli and the team did a remarkable job chip sealing our driveway. Our old asphalt drive was in sad shape. We had mulled different options such as concrete, pavers, or having the drive resurfaced again. Eli was quick to come out and access our situation. He gave us the options and the pros and cons of each. We settled on the chip seal treatment and they were able to come out a week later and get it done. UPDATE: A few weeks later I tried again and received the same response .... we're too busy blah blah... But I persisted and pointed out a few things ending with '..."In any case, it is now clear, and I will pass it on, that Sunrise policy is to not stand behind your work and your promises" That may have hit a nerve because a few days later Eli Silberman stopped by to inspect the driveway. But rather than agree do some needed fix-up to my driveway he instead declared that the driveway is in very good condition and doesn't need any repair work. Imagine that. And the worn areas we were looking at ?- the very same worn areas his father referred to when he said - '.... we're not repairing it on our dime ... I'll get you an estimate' - Eli recommended raking gravel over those areas to cover them up. Seriously! He also recommended waiting 18 months before doing any work to the driveway - which, conveniently, would make it 5 years from when the original work was done and therefore just within the 5 to 8 year maintenance-free time period they promise for a chip seal job. But if I wanted to have it repaired today, I asked, rather than wait 18 months (when it will be in even worse condition and cost more to repair), what would you charge to repair it today - and get this, $2500 he says. So $2500 to repair a driveway that is in very good condition and doesn't need any repairs. How's that for standing behind your work. read more

"I can't believe I live here." Those were the words that were going through my head as I drove up our 1300' newly-paved access road that Sunrise Asphalt had just repaved. Talk about a perfect job, they addressed every one of my concerns and even came back to take some footprints out with a torch and roller. Repaving our road every eight years is a requirement of our HOA's road maintenance agreement. Because our road serves only four residences, having it look absolutely beautiful and durable was paramount in our decision in choosing an asphalt company in Tucson. After seeing Sunrise's work at the gas station at the corner of Silverbell and Grant as well as other parking lots of local Tucson restaurants -- which also all turned out perfect -- we decided to have Sunrise come out for a quote on our job. Two other Tucson asphalt companies also bid on the project which we had expected would run $18,000-$20,000. In looking over the contracts, Sunrise had the best warranty even though they were more expensive than the other bids we received. But judging on their past work and their 40 years in business, the decision was clear. We chose Sunrise Asphalt to do the job. Our job was done exactly the way it was explained to us having at least 2" of asphalt at all times, edge lines would be near to as perfect as they could get them, hand-tamped if needed, no globs, bumps or wavy areas. This is a family-run business with longstanding employees that have the experience and skill, especially working with difficult winding roads and driveways. Our road goes up the side of a mountain ridge at a severe incline, so this was no easy job for them. But, they knew how to handle the job and, as promised, one of the family members was always on-site during the entire two day process overseeing the work and orchestrating the rollers, trucks and other equipment. The job turned out to be exactly how they said it would be: perfect! We look at this as a return on our investment. Our paving project easily increased the value of the homes in our small development by as much as $100,000 and the place looks gorgeous now! Very professional company. We hired Sunrise Asphalt to replace an old asphalt driveway that had crumbled into gravel. They did an incredible job. They thoroughly prepared the site and expanded the size of the driveway and then put on two full coats of chip and seal. They were very careful to work around our brick borders. They even arranged to do this work while we were out of town, so we didn't have to drive over it while work was underway. read more

I had a paperwork error and mistakenly sent them a check for a large amount for work our group had not yet approved, and after the error was discovered and I called them in a panic, they actually came to me that same day on their personal time to give me a refund check. They could have mailed it to me but they cared enough to know I was in misery due to my mistake, and they wanted to help me feel better as soon as possible. Our business bought a building that had lots of "deferred maintenance." That included the parking lots, three of them, totalling 40,000 square feet. They had cracks, torn asphalt with dirt and plants coming through, rough surfaces, and looked worse that most Pima County roads. The original white striping was barely visible in some places. Eli (an owner) from Sunrise Asphalt walked the property with us -- twice -- and then provided an extremely reasonable quote. He then said he could start the very next day on the two southern lots. The Sunrise Asphalt crew was there bright and early... around 8-12 people at various times, and Eli was there THE WHOLE TIME. They cleaned up the lot, blew the debris out of the cracks, swept the lot, picked it all up -- two dump trucks worth -- and then started saw-cutting the big cracks. Once that was done they lay asphalt in the sawcut areas, and flattened it with a steam-roller. They did "spot-patches" (like an asphalt band-aid) and made it all pretty. Then they sealed it all up and made it look black and new and wonderful. The next day the striping contractor came and laid down beautiful white stripes. The same process was then repeated on our northern lot... we did a full walkthrough; Eli said they could start the very next day, and it went as awesomely as the first time. Some things weren't perfect the first time and Eli went out of his way to immediately fix them, so in the end things ARE perfect and we LOVE our new lot. I received several estimates to repair/chip seal my 39 year old asphalt driveway which was in pretty bad shape. The estimates ranged from $4k to nearly $7K for a complete repair and chip seal. Sunrise came in near the bottom of the price range, but the deciding factor was that they took the time to explain what they were going to do, why they were going to do it, and why it was necessary. They had a crew of eight employees to do the job which was started one afternoon, and finished the next morning. They did everything they said they would do plus more. They used good quality materials and they did not skimp on the application. They had a ton of high quality equipment and labor to do the job right. Many of his employees have been with him for many years, and it was nice to see that they knew exactly what to do without having to be supervised. Even so, the owner or his son were on site during the entire job. My driveway now looks brand new, and I'm super happy with the work that was performed. I'd certainly go with them again. read more

This contractor did a horrible job on my residential driveway. It cracked into little pieces and he charged me 35% more than any other contractor. I covered the work he did with colored rock chip seal and now I get so many compliments. He's dishonest and untrustworthy, look elsewhere. read more

Do not select this company for your asphalt needs!!! Terrible workmenship with no warranty. My driveway is only two years old and it has major cracking all over, even though you treat it (sealing) every year. In addition, when this company did the sealing they overcharge me twice what they said it would be when I first paved my driveway! Wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. read more
