One thing that makes Lander's River Cafe better than a typical diner is the view out the window: you can see where Callicoon Creek is about to flow into the Delaware, and from the angle out the back window the two bodies of water appear to be flowing in opposite directions. It's beautiful. Here's where Lander's River Mart excels: in the convenience store part of the establishment they make sandwiches. Not fancy sandwiches, but good subs. Their Italian combo (at about $6) weighs over a pound and a half and easily feeds two hungry people. It might be the best deal in Callicoon; the cold cut to bread ratio is obscene. If you go to the back corner of the store they have a fairly decent kosher section. This always makes me happy to see, not just because I am Jewish, but because it shows them understanding their shoppers and trying to make them happy. Years ago they used to carry this cheese cake pudding that my family love, so when we would go in there it was always our top dessert choice. After a while they stopped always carrying it, but if we requested it they ensured they had it the following weekend for us, which was awesome! The other desserts that they carry are pretty good too, can't think of any we are disappointed in. They used to be open 24 hours, then about 5 years ago they changed it to only during the summers (since there are so many snow birds), but now I believe they close at midnight all year round.

We…read morewent out of our way to visit this specific gas station because Sheetz had been advertising $1.99/gallon for gasoline as a Thanksgiving promotion for "88" grade gas. Unfortunately, we still ended up paying $3.59/gallon for "87" as it was too confusing to use the pump or the pumps with the good deal were empty. Some did not offer "88" at all. Some were supposed to have "88" but had a plastic bag over the nozzle because they were empty. On our third try, we thought that we had a usable pump for the promotion, but no gas came at the promotion price. Feels like a bait-and-switch. (Note that we had successfully gotten cheap gas at a Sheetz in Louisa, VA during a different promotion).
