I talked to the guy and he said he doesn't stock much gin because it doesn't move - the locals drink other things. Understandable. He was very friendly and we talked for a bit about gin and various things. Overall I had a nice experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back (unless I need fancy gin lol!)

No booze on Sunday and no booze ever in the grocery store? Come on man! Despite the laws that seem strange to me, I am a rule follower, so off to the liquor store I go. The Liquor Cabinet is located off of Hwy 90 in the back of a strip mall. Do not let the appearance of the strip mall prevent you from visiting. This is a very nice place. My visits here were originally to purchase red wine. The staff were always up to offer suggestions and those worked out well. Lately I have been trying to become a fancy shmancy dude so I have started venturing into Bourbon. The selection of Bourbon here is good to very good. Prices are very competitive and I ended up with a bottle of Bulleit 10 year on my most recent visit. One thing I really like about this shop is the way they list their prices on the liquor. The part of the shelf that faces the customers is a chalk board. Prices are kept up to date and handwritten in chalk. I do not know why I really like this, but I do. That feature coupled with the fact that customers cant just walk up and grab a bottle (the shelves are separated from the sales floor by a counter) gives this place an old school vibe that I really appreciate. Another thing I really like about here is that it is a family run business. Not only is it a family running it, but they make you feel like family even when it is your first visit. I'm a fan.

I recently started stopping by here often, once I found it! This is another one of the "hidden in a…read morestrip mall" businesses. Native North Shore folks might disagree on that point, I'm not sure. Being a native New Orleanian from Orleans parish & spending almost my entire life in New Orleans (Orleans parish proper) strip malls are a foreign concept.( At least the very large strip malls are. ) Metairie, jefferson, Kenner & the West Bank areas all have some larger strip malls. In uptown New Orleans the closest thing to a strip mall was Riverbend restaurant(1974-1987) (which became an Eckerd's then a Walgreens), Gennaro's Cleaners(before it became Gennaro Luke & Son) & Hibernia bank on Carrollton ave. In any case, I really do feel like driving into (hidden from view/ no signage on the street) strip malls is fun! You never know what little gem you might find. I discovered the North Shore Mandina's this way! What was I talking about? AAH yes, the whole reason I'm typing: Back to reviewing a liquor & smokes store: Town Crier on Hwy. 22 in the strip mall where Walgreen's & Rouse's are located. I like this place for the following reasons: - Ample parking in front - great if your in a hurry & just need a bottle of wine &/or alcohol - Competitive prices - Staff at all locations I've stopped in have been friendly ( hwy 59/ 190 by little Wal-Mart This is what it is. What it is is done as well as well can be done, for what they do.
