But everyone was super nice and they brought us a menu that had what they offer in a blackout. With the flashlights we looked over the menu. They had probably about 8 customers not including the 2 of us. So they were trying to accommodate. I got the watermelon tomato gazpacho and the chick pea caesar salad. Both were very good. On the gazpacho I wish there was a bit more watermelon flavor and chunks. The salad was good. Very hearty. My friend got the mushroom po boy. She liked it as well. The server was very nice and attentive. The lights eventually came back on about 3/4 the way through our meal. So now we could see. The place is cute and the fans were welcome on a humid evening. You have to pay to park. And the restaurant is all the way down on the right. The area is very cute and kinda touristy. The only down side besides paying to park are the prices. Just because it's vegan doesn't mean it's cheap. It's not. Prices are higher. Just for my soup and salad my dinner was $28. I guess that could be standard but I got soup and a salad. But it was good. The exception is Grounded for Life, which offers delicious breakfast and lunch options that are thoughtfully prepared, delicious, and satisfying. Their extensive, all vegan menu offers breakfast options such as bagel sandwiches, burritos, toasts, and more, and even their coffee is surprisingly good! I have also enjoyed their wraps, bowls, and sandwiches. And they even have burgers and hot dogs, too. GfL is my new spot for takeout (order ahead online to save time!) before heading to the airport. The chunky chicken wrap saved me when my flight back to the West coast (already a long journey) was delayed by several hours and I was starving. The cafe also has a number of yummy desserts displayed in the case that are great to-go. GfL also offers a "Meal Prep" option where you can order food on a weekly or monthly basis. Service is friendly and efficient, but they are sometimes understaffed. Try to be patient and nice, and your tasty food will be out soon enough. The cafe itself is pretty small with just a few tables indoors. The outdoor patio is more expansive, and I recommend enjoying your food and drinks outside if the weather is decent.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to have some quality vegan food and to be able to support such strength without it feeling forced or unnatural for me. What could be "better"? Our waitress was very good with suggestions, explaining the dishes, and providing all around good service. Being the first day open after Labor Day, the restaurant was not crowded and was not overly noisy which we greatly appreciated. Dinner starts with amuse bouche which was salmon rillettes. This was a favorite of mine and the chef's version were really good. Next was bread served with butter and an oil and garlic mixture. The bread was delicious. I'd like to note here that vegan options are available for amuse bouche and bread but I did not order them because I am not vegan. However, this did not matter as the chef sent them out for us to try. I found them on par with the non-vegan versions. I had the roasted tri-colored carrots appetizer and my wife went with the sautéed trumpet mushrooms. We both thought they were good. I tasted the mushrooms and while I did find them good, I preferred the carrots. For our mains, my wife went with the duck breast and I chose the Red Cat Farm ancient grains and lentil stuffed pepper. Obviously the duck breast was not off the vegan menu; my wife found the inclusion of duck on the regular menu too much to resist. The stuffed pepper was beyond delicious! I had never eaten anything like what the chef created and the various flavors meshed perfectly. My wife liked the duck and I tried a bite and I definitely preferred the pepper. On a side note, the duck seemed to be done more than the suggested medium rare. The pepper should probably move to the regular menu for the late summer months - it's that good! We did not try the vegan desserts. Instead, my wife went with ice cream and I went with the warm funnel cake sundae because it had strawberry ice cream in it. The meal was quite good. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 (rounded up to 5 for this review).
