We arrived at Bryerly Farms and it was nothing like we expected (not a farm in the traditional sense) BUT it more than made up for it in hospitality and the majestic horses we got to meet - most of which were wild rescue horses. Anne was so warm, very patient with my daughter and her one thousand questions about farm life and she introduced us to all the beautiful horses and ponies by name! On our way home, my daughter kept saying their names and how she wants to take riding lessons with one of the ponies. We're looking forward to going back soon , as we've been invited for an Autumn party and to pick prickly pears :)

Management is rarely on the property, and the borders are policing and letting them know when something needs to be repaired. They just raised their rates over 30% in the last two years....look elsewhere if want to board your horse. I recently became a member of summit ranch. Been there for 3-4 months now with my new Arab…read more Everything is very well maintained and a gorgeous property. In terms of horse care; my horses stall is always looking great and full of clean shavings. In terms of hay they have alfalfa and grass I believe. If I ask them to feed 2.5 flakes they do exactly that. Wonderful staff. They have stalls and stall paddocks Arenas: one out door and one huge indoor one with a lounge area indoor that has a window to view into the arena. The lounge has multiple tables, couches, big screen tv with cable and wifi. Both arenas are "mowed down" idk how to spell it but they work the arena flooring to Make it nice and even for the horses, this is done twice a day and watered down as well. Round pen is outdoors, and there is two small turn outs with sand. The horses are a priority to the employees here and you get the feeling from the owners that it isn't just about the money but they want to form a nice and fun environment for people. I believe there is 50ish horses here. The boarders are definitely on the older side but there is people in their 20s/30s. There is multiple dinners for the different holidays that are free and there is catering and padlock style. They also have an apprentice program and the kids really improve their ridding skills drastically. The ranch horses are not only gorgeous but well trained. I only got to go out on trail a handful of times but there is basically miles and miles of trails. The boarders are very friendly and there is several trainers that come and have clinics from David Ventura who teaches beginner to Grand Prix level dressage to the Incredible Dean Lacey who can solve any horse problem you have. This ranch really is incredible and words can't do it justice. If you are lucky enough to get a stall you wouldn't regret.

Shell ridge open space…read more An open space, just minutes away from a busy shopping street, right in downtown Walnut Creek, Fossil Hill is part of Shell Ridge Open Space. What is special about Fossile Hill, is that volunteers of Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation (WCOSF) have been restoring native plants for more than 10 years. Their effort affords such a natural beauty for all of us to enjoy. It is evident in the springtime. I especially love the early morning stroll right before sunrise. It is so serene and zenlike. The undulating hills, the muted green grasses, bushes and trees. It is very pastoral. Once the sun had been out, from 10 -11 AM to 4 PM, the gold-orange poppies, the blue lupine, and purple chia together with lush green form a gorgeous spring palette. The trail has a wide ranch-style road, easy for all who are not wheelchair bound. You can do either a short 1/2 mile walk to enjoy wild flowers or the entire 3.5 miles.
