Apart from a BBQ spatula I welded in High School, and my mad IKEA building skills, I know nothing about DIY. Zilch. Nada. So its not very often you'll find me in a Mitre10. Truth be told, I'm a little intimidated.
But when my trusty instant-read meat thermometer ran out of battery and I opened it up to see some type I had never heard of, I was on mission. I stopped at every chemist, grocer, and office supply store between Central and Mitre10 Pitt St and no one knew what I was looking for. Even eBay couldn't help me out.
With minimal expectations, I swallowed my fears and stepped inside Mitre10. Rather than asking me what the heck I was doing in a DIY shop, I was instantly met with a friendly hello and an offer of help. I mentioned the battery I was looking for and she LOOKED IT UP. Apparently there's a battery compatibility book and it turns out that my rare battery was equivalent to a very common one that I could have purchased at any of the other stores I had been to if someone had simply looked it up.
I've been back to this location a couple of times since and the staff are always happy to provide guidance and really aren't so scary after all. read more
